Yesterday I thinned the Swiss chard and zinnias. Neither plant have grown much, too many cloudy days. I had the same problem last year with plants grown from seed being stunted because of dark days. I hope we get more sunshine soon so the plants will catch up so they will be able to withstand the summer heat.

My herbs I bought as plants are thriving and the sage & Greek oregano will be ready for first harvest soon.

I got energized this year when a hockey friend of ours gave me some garlic heads and told me how to plant them. They were doing very well, so I decided to try my hand at some other things. Now I have tomatoes, strawberries, onions, and marigolds growing too. I am once again getting excited about growing stuff in my garden. Our apricot, peach, plum, apple, and lemon trees are doing well. Can't wait for what looks to be a great crop this year. My Granddaughter and I are going to get some squash in the ground in the next week. So very hopeful for a good crop this year. We have been learning so much in the off season that we are ready to go!

Nancy, so good to hear you are gardening with your granddaughter. Growing food for your table and making memories can't get any better than that.

The Swiss chard did not survive the cloudy dark days. The galvanized tubs set empty for a couple of weeks then my sister gave me five tomatoe plants that were looking poorly that she wasn't going to plant. So now I am a tomato farmer and proud to say the five tomato plants perked up and are doing good.

Nice job, Sara! This coming weekend will be our planting weekend for our tomatoes. We have broccoli, potatoes, sugar peas 2 varieties, and cauliflower in the ground now. :)

Karen :)

To quote one of my past preschoolers “Not one of those Karens, but a good Karen”! Haha
