August is entering its last week and then September starts our fun Apple Festival. Each year, I love to do an Apple Giveaway so it is time to get started. If you would like to toss your name into my apple basket, leave me a reply and include something about your favorite apples to eat, cook with, or any other apple related story. We will all enjoy reading and learning about apples together!!

I will choose a winner on September 4th so I can get your surprise out in enough time to enjoy the month!!

Looking forward to another fun year together during our Apple Festival at MJF!!

I am delighted to say that Kelly O Neal is the winner of this year's Apple Giveaway!! Kelly, your package is on its way and I hope you enjoy!!

Thanks to all of you who put your name in the hat and left us some interesting apple tidbits and stories to enjoy!!

What fun Winnie! You know I always look forward to our annual apple swap.

My favorite eating apples are Granny Smith. They don't cause an insulin spike like some sugars in other apples can. I enjoying baking with lots of different ones but I think I like Macintosh best for pies, apple cake and baked apples.
I just came across a new to me apple variety. Cosmic Crisp. I haven't had a chance to try them but will be getting some next trip out.. A wonderful giveaway. Thanks!

Hi Winnie, thanks for hosting another fun giveaway. Don't put my name in your drawing because I have won several giveaways over the years and it's another Farmgirl turn.

Like Denise my favorite apple is a Granny Smith, I like a firm tart apple. When I can apple pie filling, I like to mix Granny Smith apples with a sweeter apple. I'm not a baker so I like to use the apple pie filling over ice cream or hot biscuits.

An apple a day keeps the Dr away! I'm eating a fuji as I type this, one of my faves! But, I love a sliced apple with a little sprinkle of salt on it! OR dipped in caramel!

Winnie, you always start the season off perfectly! When I see your apple posts, I know that fall is right around the corner.

This year, I finally planted my first apple tree! I am looking forward to the year when it produces many beautiful apples. I chose to plant an Ambrosia apple tree. Those are my favorite apples to eat.

I love both the Fuji and Granny Smith apples. My favorite way to eat them, besides in a cobbler or pie, is to use an apple slicer (makes 8 pieces) and eat with lots of crunchy peanut butter. YUM!

Thanks for hosting your giveaway again thia year. It is always appreciated and we get lots of info from the farmgirls.

My favorites to eat were Rome Beauty and Pippins for cooking. Can't find either one of them anymore so it's now Granny Smith for everything. I do pick some for applesauce every year from my son's orchard; He told me what they are but as usual I forgot. I'll have to ask him again.

I would have to say that Granny Smiths are my favourite apple, mainly because they are so versatile in cooking - they can add an element of sweetness to a crisp or pie, but also elevate a pork dish with their juicy tartness.

Here's a cute little poem by Helen H. Moore, simply entitled "APPLES":-

Apples, apples, what a treat,
sweet and tart and good to eat.
Apples green and apples red,
hang from branches overhead,
and when they ripen, down they drop,
so we can taste our apple crop.

Love honey crisp apples and travel to Wisconsin to get some. Love fall festivals. There is an Amish fall festival the end of September near us, that has apple fritters, small apple pies and apple butter cooking in a large metal kettle. The aroma is amazing. You can buy a large slice of homemade bread with apple butter for a dollar. So good.

We have had our apples trees now for many years. One sweet, I forgot the name, One pink pearl, and one Johnathan baking apple. They are all tolerant of our hot summers. I love the baking one the best as it is not as sweet and is a bit tart. Also I have a young red flesh variety that has not yet produced an eating apple. It flowers but apples have not quite gotten large enough to eat. But that one ripens best off the tree. That when the natural sugar sets in. So many varieties across the world. We love to make pies, apple tarts, and lots of applesauce.

I didn't read the post in time to get in, but we have an Anna apple tree in our yard. It is small, but mighty! It gave us a bit of wonderful applesauce this year! Looking forward to more in the future!
