Shannon, thank you for sharing your program with us! It sounds like a great way for kids to connect. I'll check it out in a year or two. I think my oldest is just a little too young still for a pen pal. Pretty soon he'll be ready.

Erin - how old is our oldest? I have a 4 yo son that is "dying" for a penpal! Obviously, I would be writing the letters he dictates (I have to do that for my 6 yo especially at this time of the year due to her arthritis!) Anyways, if you are interested, and your son is around my youngest boys' age, please let me know!

Shannon - I have a 7 year old and 4 year old boy that would both love penpals :)

Joyce - email me their names and I will get my kids writing! If you want additional penpals for them, go to www.hsamf.org and submit them into the penpal program and mail me the parent agreement and I will get them enrolled via that as well.

Awesome Shannon! My oldest is 7, will be 8 in August, and middle is 6. Maybe that isn't too young, I don't know. I've never talked to them about pen pals, but I will see what they think about it. It would be very good writing practice. Especially for my oldest. He hurries through things so he has a tendency to get things wrong, even though if he thought about what he was doing, he would get it right. I'm talking reading, spelling, things like that. I'll get back to you about it.

Awwww thanks ladies! I seem to be putting them in, in bunches. I've put in for a couple others and am just waiting for them to "clear" including expert for herbs. I'm also trying to finish reading "Gardening with Heirloom Seeds" so I can put in for that badge. I'm really enjoying that one!

YAY Kathleen! That is awesome!!!! I think it is funny you hadn't even applied for the one! It is neat they keep up on what you've earned even when you don't specifically put in for that one!

I'm still waiting on my three submissions. Sent them in on the 9th. One thing about badges is they help to teach me patience.

I am about to apply for my Intermediate and Expert badges for "What's Your Beef." One of the requirements for the expert is to share with my chapter what I have learned. I am not sure if any of you have ever looked into this or not, but wowsers! Most of you know that I am a Christian... to begin with, I believe God created cows to eat grass... not grains. Their stomachs were not made to digest the proteins of grains. To top it off, our bodies were not created to be injected with artificial hormones or vaccinations. I am quite willing to pay the extra for grassfed beef over grainfed beef any day! With that said, I have found that if you purchase a whole cow (well for our family, we need a whole cow) for the year, it is actually cheaper for us, then to buy grain fed beef throughout the year! We save our tax return money each year to purchase a grass-fed cow, locally. We prefer jersey, as it is leaner, but this year bought angus, which is still quite yummy, though a little more fatty.
