My mother told me about December 7th. She and my daddy had only been married a year. He was 31 and missing his ring and pinkie fingers on his right hand...but he went down the next morning and signed up. I was not born until late 1943. We have discovered that one of my husband's great uncles, age 62 with withered legs, signed up for the draft. People loved America then. They had something called respect and loyalty. They gave everything...truly they were the greatest generation. |

Alicia, I want to mention your blog, DerBauernhof and your items on etsy. If any of you other farm girl sisters have not seen these...It is worth your time. I love what you are doing with both. |

My boyfriend's birthday is Dec 7th, but several years after Pearl Harbor. I'll second Alicia's blog and Etsy site. Love them both.
Today is National Pastry Day and Weary Willie Day. I can understand Pastry Day? I had to look it up. This holiday was named for the character made famous by Emmett Kelly, who was born on this day in 1898. Weary Willie Day celebrates the art of clowning and the impact that it has had on our lives.
I know some people hate and are scared by clowns. |

Year ago my daughter and I were in a clown group at church. It was a lot of fun and I did enjoy it in my costume and make up but I don't think the Steven King movies helped them at all.
It made people scared of them and they were ugly clowns. It was fun then but I wouldn't want to do it now. There are too many weird people out there. My costume was a happy one. Pastry is another story, very yummy. Happy Pastry day everyone.

Denise how fun but I don't have an ugly sweater. On one of the TV baking contest shows they were tasked with making ugly sweater cookies. I think that would be fun for a group to do. |

Sara - There is a kit I've seen at WalMart - and I'm sure it is other places, too. I think it is sweater shaped cookies with the frosting in different colors so you can decorate your ugly sweater cookies. LOL! It would be fun to see who could decorate the ugliest sweater. LOL! |

Linda, what will they think up next. I don't enjoy baking - too much measuring for me - but I sure could get into decorating the cookies. |

We did family Christmas today, all day long. Cooking, eating, opening gifts at our house, then at my sons house. Then we had a huge surprise when our oldest grand daughter was proposed to, burst into happy tears and said yes. Then they went to his family Christmas and we drove to Granbury to see the lights. We had not been there but a bit when Baylee (grand daughter) texted her mom to tell her she got the long awaited email saying she got into the nursing program at Tarleton. What a special Christmas this is for our family. Thank you GOD. |

So much fun hearing about special events that happened on Christmas day. Congratulations to Baylee for getting into nursing school too! My youngest daughter had to go back to Asheville today but we had a fun weekend having her here and I am so glad to have had her here again. After getting her off, I spent the day doing lots of laundry and cleaning up. It was 80 and sunny all day and we have the windows open and enjoying a bit of a breeze as well. I plan the rest of the week on getting my decorations put away and closet sorted out for an after holiday trip to the thrift store. The upcoming New Year always inspires me to make a clean uncluttered start. |

My tree is out and decorations put away. My living room looks big without the tree. |

Oh Marilyn. We didn't put up our decorations until Christmas Eve day. We take them down on January 6. That way we don't get so tired of them. When I was growing up that's how Christmas was. The focus was on Jesus's birth. I so love all the decorations though. |

Sammi, my 7 yo, has requested that the tree stays up until after her birthday (the 16th). I think e are going to go for it :) We did that last year as well. |

It's so important for little one's desires and dreams be heard. Sammi's counting down the days and the Christmas Tree is part of that excitement. Oh, to have the heart and mind of a child uncluttered by worldly things. |

Ours are purchased on the day after Thanksgiving. So by Christmas they are usually dangerously dried out. I did leave an artificial tree up through Valentine's once. I love the trees...just not the danger. |

Marilyn - if it were a real tree, I don't think it would happen! We use an artificial tree Brad's mom bought for us years ago (about 10 now!?!?) It is a lovely tree she picked up after Christmas for us one year :) Usually our tree goes up on Black Friday... |
