Yes I heard that a lot growing up too! I am all for that. It was redder than the photo shows. It was like that last night too
Certain times of the year in the morning there is fog and the sky I and the sky is white, blue and red. That is so pretty!
Well have a good one!

It rained a bit here and I was really hoping it would cool it down but unfortunately it only made it more humid and sticky. i might have to go run through the hose this afternoon. LOL!

More rain again here today. Doesn't look like it will clear till Wednesday and then looks good till Monday next wee. Of course we all know how that can change.

They just guess, I suppose. Our sunny week is no longer sunny every day.
My son got his last field cut raked, dried and baled...81 big rolls of hay. Now he is looking at the beautiful green grass and thinking about a second cutting. Hopeful that he might be blessed with three.

For the last several days Paris has seen heat index of 108. Yesterday, Sherman, which is 100 miles due west of me had heat index at 112. I have switched my morning hot English Breakfast tea to Lucianne iced tea. Gotta stay cool until fall when I can put the kettle back on for morning hot tea. Maybe I should do a jar of sun tea.

All outside work will now be done between daylight and 9 a.m.

I'm with you about going out early to do the work. In the evenings the mosquitos are out there. We are hot but not as hot as y'all.

I am doing early morning too! This Heat is making me sick! It was 112 in my car when I came out of the grocery store yesterday! I had to go!
This morning I put the water hose in my flower bed and went back inside and set the timer on the stove. Then go back out and move it! I am also cat sitting for my neighbor and this morning even the Sadie the cat didn't want to go outside!

Our next chance for rain is Saturday!
Take care! Be careful in this heat!

I'm not complaining about 86 degrees with a real feel of 92. I don't go out much in summer unless I am well covered. Today is not an outdoor day anyway. Unless maybe the porch later. Early morning is when I head out to do morning chores out there.

Linda, when my mother remarried, they were both in their late 60s. They decided to purchase a camping rig. Each summer they left Texas and drove up to Northern New Mexico, where they stayed through July and August. THERE WAS A CAMP GROUND WITH HOOK UPS AND AN ACTIVITY CENTER. It rained almost daily, but only briefly. It was cool not cold. THEY REALLY ENJOYED IT.
Sorry about the caps.

Just checked and our heat index is now 112. It's cool in my house - giving thanks for my A/C. I do keep my drapes and blinds drawn which helps.

Sara do you have big trees too? The big trees make our front yard about 15° cooler than the driveway.

Denise I have a 60' or taller oak tree in backyard and my neighbor to the west has another huge oak and they do help. My back and side yard are mostly in shade. All the yards behind me have big trees.

We had a major storm!!! It hit about 7:30 and my prayer was that the two old oak trees on the north east side of our house would still be standing when it was over. I have not seen wind blow that hard or so crazy in a very long time. I have not been out to see the damage, it is dark and lightening is still flashing. My son called me to tell me his friend got the storm just before us, and it was bad! He was right. The strangest thing...the storm came from the north east. Our storms normally come from the southwest of northwest. It may rain for a while yet.

Marilyn -

We had the wind here, too. I agree, too, that it was very strange coming from the northeast, especially since there is a large storm system in the gulf. The winds picked up very quickly and were very strong gusts. I needed to go out and hold the gate open for Ed to drive through onto the pasture because the wind kept closing it. I had to walk under my 2 very old sycamore trees and I was afraid some of the branches would blow down on me. We didn't get much rain - just drops.

The same storm hit Paris and power was out on the westside of town. Betty called to ask if I had power because her step-DIL told her of the outage. I'm on the eastside.

Some of the branches on my oak tree were almost bending to the ground. Don't know now what limbs were lost. Limbs are always falling during high wind. It rained hard for about 30 minutes. Cooled things down for a while but it will heat up today.

Marilyn it was strange for a storm to come from the NE. They're usually out of the west, northwest, or south up from the gulf - very seldom is high wind out of the east.

Glad you all are safe! That is strange. I don't think I have ever heard of storms coming in anywhere from the northeast.

The wind really thrashed the pecan tree by the garage/barn. Of course It also thrashed every other tree as well. I picked up lots of leaf clusters. My big sun flower, which is now about eight feet tall with lots of blooms was blown over...but I pounded its stick brace further in the ground and hopefully it will recover. We have four baby cantaloupes. I'm excited...God's wee garden has given us a hand full of green beans, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, black eyed peas, okra, and several surprises. I think I know why some okra mixed into the pea row...It rained right after I planted it. We have four big butternut squash...but the stems are all still green. There are lots of babies too. There are two yellow straight neck squash for dinner tomorrow. Then there are the plants that just appeared. The leaves day squash, but who knows!
