Here we are in August. I sure do hope the weather gets cool enough to enjoy being outside for a few days in a week.
I have been looking forward to fall so much but I now when the cold wind blows I'll be wishing for some of this warmth. I love the in between seasons. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I know it can be a busy time of year.

Hi Denise I am ready for Fall, when I hear the wind blowing through the pines. The weather has ben so hot like 90-108. And the humidity it feels like I am melting. I want the hot chocolate and a mini Reese's cup in it, and sitting on the porch. Yum.

I'm with you Marlee. Those temps are too too hot for me. I stay in the a.c. whenever possible. I wish I lived further north. I just love New England in the Fall.

August has blown into Texas on a gentle breeze. Seems our heat wave is broken for a while. It's a pleasantly 89 and Annie and I have just come in from sitting out on the sideporch. My sister gave me six ears of corn so I shucked them as I rocked in my wicker rocker and Annie guarded the driveway and frontyard. Tomorrow I'll cut the corn off and freeze for another sister to put in her freezer. I no longer can eat corn. The cob I will freeze until Oct-Nov and I'll make corncob broth to can. The husks and silk will go into compost. Nothing wasted. If rest of August would be like this evening I might even end up liking it instead of dreading the dog days of August.

A little trivial. The dog days of August has to do with the Dog star rising and setting with the sun in July and August. I always thought it was when old hound dogs laid under the front porch and didn't chase rabbits.

Thanks for sharing that tidbit Sara. I always enjoyed astronomy and love to sit out with JT and pick out the different stars and constellations. We have a great view of the night sky from our back porch.

Europe has been in a heat wave and drought for months!! Everyday has been in the 90s and baking hot. Yesterday we had a brief rain shower but today is back to the soaring heat. Everything is so dry and the crops are all suffering too. Duirng the river cruise portion of this trip, every day was a possibility that the river levels had dropped too low. Now we are off the boat and visiting Switzerland. Yesterday we were up in the mountians but that wasn’t very cool either. Today in Zurich,it is going up to the mid 90s again. We just got back from a 4 hour walking tour and resting up till it gets later and the sun Isn’t so direct .

The heat has really made this trip hard on all of us because being out in the heat and sun for hours is difficult. Tomorrow we head way up in the mountains to zermatt and then to Geneva. We come home Sunday. Weather.com has a rain band and then cooler temps for the last two days . I hope it does cool down and these poor people get a break from the blistering dry heat. The farmers are really worried.

I am getting homesick now and looking froward to coming back home. The trip is always fun but after about a week, I miss home and my routine. Nothing like Ho,e Sweet Home!

So good to hear from you Winnie. I guess the heat isn't good no matter where you are. I know I am ready for fall. I just keep thinking every day is that much closer.
JT spent this weekend pressure washing the house. We have cedar shingles on part of the house and I was shocked at how nice they looked after he did them. We get a lot of green growing on the house as everyone here does.
Hope everyone is staying cool. This heat brings on headaches for me so I've been staying in as much as possible.

It is TOO HOT! August has always been hot. My mother always told me that the day I was born it was over 100 degrees in the delivery room. LOL!

I had heard that Europe was having the high heat, too. So sorry you are having to experience our weather there, too.

Everyone keep cool as you can. This, too, shall pass.

I have a touch of sore throat and congestion so I harvested the tops of my hyssop plant and made tea. It has a pleasant taste and with honey it's tasty - now to see if it does what the books say. I love being able to gather herbs from my garden when I need a medicinal tea.

Yesterday I went shopping with my sister Betty. First we went to a little dress shop where her daughter shops. I bought two of the prettiest flannel shirts I have ever seen. They're LemonAid brand at www.shoplemonaid.com if you want to check out the shirts and read their story.

I also found a red bib apron with pockets at the Salvation Army for $1. It has a AgriLand Farm Credit logo on it. How cool is that!!!

On Tues I shopped with my sister Bobbie who is Betty's twin. We went to Hobby Lobby and I got a fall fabric panel and a yard of match fabric. It seems like the three of us never can get together at the same time.

Sara, I use fenugreek tea for sinus and congestion. Quite helpful.
Hyssop is a good blood purifier

Looks like you scored some nice finds!

Denise I'll have to check it out. Do you grow it or buy the tea?

This is my first year to grow hyssop so I'm still learning about it. Hope it winters over in the raised bed. If not I will have to treat it like a annual and re-plant each year.

Sounds like great shopping, Sara. What are you making with the panel and fabric?

I've never heard of Hyssop or Fenugreek - as herbs or tea. I love learning new things from my henhouse sisters.

Magic happens in Sara’s kitchen! I hope it has helped as this is no time for a summer ocld. It is miserable enough with the heat , never mind all stuffed up! Today we went up to a mountain peek close to the Matterhorn. It was in the high 60s and sunny . Just breath taking beautiful looking at so many huge old glaciers. We decided to walk part way down the mountain for about 4 miles just to have the experience of hiking in the Alps. The views were stunning the whole time and we arrived at the train sataion just in time for the arrival of rain.Apparently at 10,000 feet, the weather is quite variable all the time. Tomorrow it is off to Geneva where we have a timed visit at the United Nations. I am so excited to go there and we even have to bring and so our passports to enter. Usnday we head home and it is been a very interesting visit. I think I have enjoye Switzerland the best. It is just so beautiful with the Alps and unique landscape.

A low of 84 today and a promise of rain what a great way to start my day. Will hold off on watering today to see if the rain makes it to my gardens. I've designated today a "Day of Piddling" so I intend to do just that.

Tomorrow we head home and I am looking forward to it! The past two days we have been in Geneva, Switzerland and it is a beautiful place on Lake Geneva. It has been hot but evenings are cooler with a breeze off the lake. One highlight today was touring the Red Cross Museum. Red Cross headquarters is here in Geneva and the exhibits were quite compelling. Yesterday when we first arrived we had a tour of the United Nations which was quite interesting . There are a lot of internationals living here in Geneva, which is also the French section of the country.

I am looking forward to returning to my Log Cabin , getting caught up , and planning for our upcoming Apple Festival here at MJF!! I have eaten Apple Strudel three times while in Germany and it is crazy good!! Not too sweet, warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream , and full of plump raisins . An apple lovers slice of heaven!,
