Wow! Marilyn, That's awesome to roll the tree in the closet! I collect Hallmark too for about 35 years. Every year we each choose one we love. When Holly got married I gave her all of hers. It was hard. So many memories! We have had many broken village pieces over the years! Some are glued, the cats would walk thru it when they were Kittens, Lily june has not broken any year but, this is her first year for the Christmas Village!

Julie I love the German ones too, and Vintage Shiney Brite.
Lily June and I just finished our tree a few days ago. This Linus Ornament is one of my favorite Hallmark ones. My tree is a memory tree. I have ornaments that date back to the 1940's that belong to both grandparents on my side and my hubby's. Ones Holly made at school and one from my own Sunday school teacher when I was ten. I carefully pack each one up every year.

My most favorite Christmas ornament. My Grandmother brought this little angel and her two sisters from Hungary in 1904. She's gotten a little shabby through the years and has a mended broken arm. She is made of wax with glass eyes and real human hair. They were always hung near the top of the tree out of reach of little hands. Mom always said us girls were each to have one so when I came across them while cleaning out Dad's house last year I shared them with my sisters.

Beautiful trees! Judith, your little angel is precious. What stories she could probably tell. My great grandma came over from Hungary about the same time. She didn't like to talk about it much...I don't think the trip over on the ship was very good. What faith and hope our ancestors had, leaving all they knew for a better life in an unknown place. I'm so glad that they did, though.

Judith! What a treasure!!!
Debbie, my Great-grandparents and grandparents on my dad's side came to Ellis Island from Italy in the 1930's. My Great- Grandmother Lemenze never learned to speak English, she missed home and refused to learn. They came to America because My grandmother to be was from Austria and My Grandfather Lemenze from Italy and they were forbidden to marry, so they basically ran away from her family, to come to America, to marry! The 4 of them came to New York and My dad and his siblings were all born in New York City. My Grandparents lived to their late 90's and never left New York City.
My parents divorced when I was 4 so I never got to be close to them.

My Aunt leah who still lives in upstate New York, knows all the stories I would love to hear!!

Connie you should reach out to her...
My ancestors on my daddy's side came very early, before the Mayflower.
My mother's maternal ancestors came from France in 1700. Her paternal Adams family, I'm still learning about.
I admire them too, Debbie. My daddy's Robinson branch were Scottish, forced to move to Ireland with so many others to try to calm the Irish people down. The Robinson's did not like that and moved on to England. The father of the young men who came across the big pond went to Oxford University. That led to many teachers, preachers, and men in local governments. One son started a furnace, with a partner in Pennsylvania...They named it the Oxford Furnace. My husband's paternal ancestors came from England. Seven young brothers...All got off the ship at a different port...Now that bunch is next to impossible to track.

I was thinking the same thing...Connie, you should get ahold of your aunt in New York. I bet she would love to hear from you! Her stories would be real treasures.
I guess I take it for granted that I know my family's history. I think that everyone knows where they came from. Then I see one of those commercials for ancestry.com and how someone just learned something about their grandparents and I think...well, how did you not know that already??? And then I am thankful. There are still things that both Brad and I wish we would have asked our older relatives when we had the chance and now they are no longer with us. I love family history and stories and it makes me grateful for everything they went through for the next generations.

When my son was in Jr hi the Grandmother Remembers books were on the market. I bought one for my mother. But I was so disappointed when I asked her a couple of months later how it 2as going. She handed me the blank book and said it was not suitable. So I bought her a spiral notebook. And guess what...i have an awesome treasure. She began her story at age five. She filled the spiral fronts and backs of every page ...and she enjoyed her trips down memory lane. So of you still have your mamma, give her a spiral and a special pen. Those of is with kids and grants need to get a spiral and begin to write...me included.

Judith, you little angels are precious indeed. What an heirloom treasure to reclaim and enjoy again. I have a few of my Grandmother’s ornaments and to think that they were on my Mom’
s family tree every year, brings me joy to be able to continue the tradition.

All of these stories here being shared are fascinating. We all have stories of people in our family who have given us wisdom, love, and important information of our family roots. I think that learning family stories is not only enjoyable, but useful to figuring our who we are and where some of our talents and gifts come from. Sometimes, I have seen children and grandchildren exhibit family traits long forgotten. It is all beautiful and interesting!

We went to look at Christmas lights on houses this evening. Some were pretty, some were cute, some were disappointing!
It was a beautiful sunny day today...in fact when the kids came in for snacks and opening of gifts, they were singing "Happy spring time, happy merry springtime!" That was what it felt like. After opening gifts at our house and their house, B and T had to go have Christmas with his family. I'm tired and I think they may be also.
Merry Christmas all!

Just checking in and hoping everyone had a lovely Christmas! The past 72 hours have been busy, busy busy, and then Poof! every one goest back to their own homes and it is so quiet ! We did have a wonderful gathering together this year and so happy that the awful rains we had at the beginning of the week didn't keep my daughter from NC from getting here safely. WE got over 3 inches of rain in 2 days with lots of wind and some local flooding. Thankfully, Christmas Day was beautiful and it warmed up in the afternoon. After my daughter left this morning, I tackled several loads of laundry and cleaned up from Christmas Day festivities.

I hope all of you are enjoying some time with family and friends now that all the preparations are done. Time to dig into those cookies and pies!! Yum!

Today was cloudy but no wind, and so incredibly nice. I put on a sweater to go to the horse barn, but it made me too hot. I took our Christmas tree out side, after removing the decorations of course. My husband was not exactly happy about that, but I do it every year...Then it feels like the room is so spacious. We had a good blessed Christmas! Then today everyone went to work. That seemed odd. I think I enjoy Christmas on the weekend more.
