September makes me think of apples and bonfires, school days, pumpkins and cozying up my home and all things fall.

Yay for September Debbie! I love this time of year. Just love everything about it especially knowing cooler weather is on the way.
Finally, we close on the Jersey house at 4 this afternoon. It's been a lesson in patience. Having a sinus headache which is a sure sign of the changing season!

Yay for September 1st!! While if is still very hot /humid, we will still feel like Summer down here for most of this month. To have some fun, I pulled out my fall porch decorations and fixed it all up. Sometimes, when the evenings are sort of OK, I like to sit outside and read until the mosquitoes force me to run back inside.

Denise, I am glad to know you closed on your house Sept. 1. Does this mean you are all done with all the big stuff involved with your move? I hope so as I am sure you are more than ready to be able to not think about it anymore!!

On September 1, my favorite grocery store had new Ginger gold Apples from Pennsylvania and Paula Reds from New York. Both are considered late summer apples and make good eating apples. At the moment, I cut up the Paula Reds and put them in the crockpot with some brown sugar, Apple Pie Spice and raisins for an applesauce dessert for tonight. They are smelling good!!

Yes Winnie, we are all done with the big stuff. I am ready for things to settle down and I dug out some craft supplies for the swaps I am in. Once company leaves I am going to start on some things for the swaps.

I found the Apple Festival they have here is on the same weekend as our Apple festival here on the forums. We are planning to attend. Right now I am working on things for my swaps on the main forum. Fall is really coming!
Still haven't managed to get all of my fall things out to decorate yet.

Denise, I forget that in some areas of the United States people farm on a smaller scale than I'm used to seeing.
Specialty popping corn, special other crops like Horseradish and honey from bees who only eat from a particular flower.

Marilyn, here in Ohio the farms are pretty big and corn is one of the major crops here. Dairy farms are plentiful also.

Denise, did you go to the popcorn festival? I am curious about how that is done? What sorts of popcorn is regionally grown where you live? I think of Kettle Corn popcorn when I think of festivals because that is what isa favorite down here in the South.

Winnie unfortunately we did not go. It is still going on today but our granddaughter called and asked us to come over. Who can turn her down? Not me. Lol.
I know they advertised kettle corn there. I would liked to have gone but we were busy yesterday.
I won't be missing the Apple festival though. If our swap had been a bit later I'm sure I could find some wonderful Apple things. But I have been doing some homemade gifts for that.

Heading towards the middle of September already! The official Fall Equinox arrives on September 22 at 3:21 EDT or 4:21 pm Daylight Savings time here in the East. I know Julie mentioned some leaves changing up in North Dakota, but how about the rest of you? Here in Florida the signs of Fall include squirrels eating all the new pinecones and making a mess everywhere under pine trees, the Common Persimmon, which is edible, it now dropping ripe fruit to the ground, and a pair of migrating Baltimore Orioles have arrived this past weekend to our bird feeders. They are so gorgeous with their brilliant orange and black feathers! Despite the heat and humidity, the plants and birds seem to be right on schedule for the season change. The acorns from our big Laurel Oak tree in the backyard has also started dropping ripen acorns and the squirrels are quite happy about that. Although I don't know the names, we are seeing many more beautiful butterflies on the flowers in the yard these days. Real big yellow with back details and Black with white stripes are now here. September -October seems to be a big display of butterflies and moths. Plus this Summer , we have been enjoying lots of Bumblebees on their favorite blooms I don't see many Honey bees but thankfully the Bumble bees are busy!

The leaves are starting to change here a little, very little. We are still have 80's and the bees are prolific on the plants we have out front. I don't know what kind of plant it is but it sure attracts bumblebees, honey bees and these little tiny butterflies. I've never seen these tiny butterflies before. The squirrels have just about cleaned out the bird feeders and the little birds come get the little bits that are left. It is definitely going to be different from our home in NJ. Especially this season but only because we were out in the country. This is not city but it isn't real country we were used to.
Everyone does put out all kinds of decorations for the seasons. It's nice to ride around and see them.

No leaves turning color here yet, it was 99 today and is supposed to be cooler this weekend. The air quality has been a lot better this week. Thursday I'm going over to my son's house about ten miles away to pick apples. Canning applesauce is in my future along with an almost sugar-free apple crisp or two or three.

Denise -- you are so lucky to have butterflies; I seldom see them anymore. I believe too much pesticide use is the cause. We have been having horrible ant problems and I refuse to call the exterminators. We have tried my mothers borax recipe which has always worked before but doesn't faze these ants. I have tried four different baits with no success and today I bought the last one we haven't tried before. We keep the kitchen clean. Cat food seems to be the big attraction. I have the dish of food sitting a dish of water. This works fine until a crumb of food escapes. I really don't want to crawl under the house and spread the bad stuff but I guess I may have to. I'm getting too old for this.

Ant rant over.

Not any noticeable leaves changing here in Texas. It is still in the mid-to-high 80s. I love the changing leaves. We are going up to Oklahoma (maybe), Missouri, and then Michigan the last week of September and 1st week or so of October. Hope it is cooler and we see some changing leaves there.

Judith, a friend of mine put out bowls of baking powder and salt and it was slow but the ants did come to them and I didn't see anymore for awhile. not toxic.
You never know.

Darlene - Thanks -- I'll give it a try. A friend suggested cinnamon. They wouldn't cross the cinnamon line but they just found a way around it.

Linda -- I think you should see some pretty nice fall color on your trip. Wish I was going!

The only thing we ever found worked for ants was liquid Terro. I don't like to use it and you have to keep it where pets won't get it but it does the job.

Morning everyone,

Fall is in the air ... much cooler nights. The leaves are beginning to change but not much. Seems they are turning late. Still lots of greenery. I guess we'll be having a later peak season for the leaves.

Not much happening here. Covid stats are on the rise in our area despite the increase number of vaccinated people. I give up! So I've been hiding in my kitchen hanging on to my peace as Sara would say.

Denise, glad to read that there is a closing coming for your chapter in NJ.

Catch you all later! Cheers!
