I forgot to post about our last baby of the year. She was born the day after Thanksgiving:

She looks so sweet in the picture but she's an ornery one now LOL! We're done calving until spring now.

Here'a a quick funny story. We have a cat named Angel. She's a very vocal kitty and also very moody. She follows us all over the farm - she's always on the gate or in the pen or even in the hay mow. So, it was no surprise when I was watering the pen of calves to find her walking along the top of the gate to say hi. I dumped my water bucket, gave her a quick pet, then went back into the parlor to refill my bucket. Just as I opened the door it sounded like there were 10 cats in a fight! It was a terrible ruckus. When Nathan came out to help find out what was going on neither of us could quit laughing. Poor angel was getting a "ride" and wasn't happy about it. Our steer Buckwheat had her tail in his mouth and he picked her up and was doing a happy dance around the pen. He was kicking up his hind legs and having a good time. Angel was doing everything in her power to let him have it but she couldn't quite get her claws into him. When excitement got the best of him, Buckwheat let out a bellar and dropped her. She ran out of the pen and sat just on the other side of the gate glaring at him. To say she was upset is an understatement LOL! She wasn't hurt though.

Farming isn't always fun. Right now our tractor is in about 500 pieces (only a slight exaggeration!) The cold weather made the hydraulic fluid too thick and it ruined a bunch of stuff.

One side of the garage has the tractor split in half.

The other side is full of boxes that have parts and pieces from the middle!!! I'm so glad my husband is able to do all this. It's saving a bunch of money on labor but man it's a job! And it's not fun trying to find the parts and pieces. Nothing is available right now.

On a happier note - the twins are 7 months old now.
Here's the lovely Dewdrop:

She is such a sweetheart! (That's not her number. She lost her eartag and there's another calf next to her)

and here's her ornery sister Snowflake:

She wanted to give you all a kiss LOL! She's always trying to eat my camera, gloves, coat, anything she can get in her mouth. Her name fits though - when we had the really cold weather before Christmas she was running around her pen acting like a little kid in the snow! We had one other heifer from last year in a different pen do the same thing. Everyone else just huddled up and thought they were nuts LOL!

Sorry to hear about the tractor. But very happy your hubby can fix it. Saving on labor is a bonus. :)

Dianna, I'll have to go through my pictures later. Every year, my husband takes me to the little zoo here in town to see the Otters. But of course we tour the whole thing including the farmyard petting zoo. Nearly always do we see the Spring crop of baby goats at play!

We've had goats for many moons now. Such smart and entertaining creatures they are. Our current two are Ms. Piggy and her son Norman. She was so named because of the funny grunting sounds she makes when eating. And, Norman? Well, have you seen the movie "City Slickers" where Billy Crystal has to "hand" deliver the calf and named him Norman? Well Ms. Piggy was really having trouble expelling her baby, so John had to "hand" deliver him, hence the name. We love goats . . .

Beautiful photos Heather! Love the sunlight on the calf, it's like the heavenly light is shining right down on him. In Italy, to give birth means to give to the light... Seems fitting here. xo

Jean - what a great name! I love that movie!!!

April - Love that! The calves certainly bring light into my life - they're my favorite part of dairy farming :)

I have a couple photos on my camera I'm hoping to get uploaded to the computer soon. It's almost milking time so I don't have time now. Not much is going on this time of year for photos. Mud, mud, and more mud. Tomorrow we'll have frozen mud LOL! Oh well, at least we'll be able to get all the manure hauled out.
