UPDATE AS OF JULY 19th. Many of you have been emailing me and asking about Shaina.

Holly has been kind and given me updated information about her. Shaina is in Boston for surgery. I understand...according to the email Holly sent that the surgery is today. Please keep this dear sweet child...her sister who is donating the bone marrow and her family in your prayers.

Shaina is needing a lot of encouragement during this difficult time. If you would like the hospital address where you can send her mail please email me and let me know.

INITIAL POSTING...

I know there is a lot of traffic on this part of the site...therefore I am posting this request here.

Our farm sister Holly(Tall Holly) posted this on the Prayer Request part of MJF. UPDATE ON SHAINA...Posted by Holly on June 20th. Please read!!!

Shaina is a 12 year old young girl battling Blood Cancer now for 2 years. She had good reports for a couple of months...now it has returned and they are getting negative reports. She was born the same time as the 9/11 tragedy was happening(Wonderful things do happen in the midst of tragedy!) She is having to go to Boston for more treatments. According to Holly, Shaina loves to get mail.

I am asking that each of you who can to send this precious young girl a card, or anything you choose. When I asked Holly what Shaina would like...Holly emailed me saying she might enjoy getting something telling about the state we live in. You know little girls...they love everything!!!

If you can help with this...please sign up here.

Please email me for instructions to get Shaina's mail to her.

I hope we can have one or more sweet farmgirls from every state to take part in this. I hate the thought of any child having to go through something so horrific. It would mean everything at this point to be able to put a smile on this little girls face! Please keep Shaina in your thoughts and prayers!

Thank each of you so much!

Hugs,

Judy

Sorry this is so late...April 24th appointment in Boston went well. Shaina's only been able to attend about five half days of school since she started on March 24th. She's been very tired, but overall is doing great. The Doctors in Boston said they were going to check her thyroid as its loss of function could cause her to be tired as well as some of the other symptoms she has. They also said some of it could be from her trying to do too much too soon. They decided it was best to hold off on Shaina's second set of shots, which didn't break her heart. We got home from Boston at 9:00pm and Shaina says her throat hurts. We took her temp which was normal, Thank goodness. Tuesday morning her throat was still soar. After calling both Boston and Burlington they both thought it best for Shaina to be seen in Burlington to make sure she didn't have strep. Thank god she didn't. They said she just needed plenty of rest and lots of fluids. She didn't make it to school at all last week. As of today her throat is feeling better.

Today, April 3rd-This week Shaina was able to do two 1/2 days of school (Monday & today, a bit more than 1/2 today). She's also been doing PT twice a week and is trying to play basketball. She's defiantly a fighter and is working hard to get her life back on track. Its an exhausting journey for her but she's doing great.

A note from Shaina's mom

March 10th- Today's appointment in Boston went really well. Shaina's doing great. It was a super long trip today. We just got home#63028;. We were beginning to wonder if they had for gotten about us. It took them about 2 hours after her exam and blood work to get her shots. Poor girl had to have 5 shots today...1 in each thigh, 2 in her left arm and one in her right arm. She did great. Shaina you keep amazing me with your courage & strengthShaina Strong Yeah baby!!

an update;

Shaina's appointment yesterday Feb 27th in Burlington went well. Shaina's doing good. Her counts are continuing to climb. Kidney function still a little high, but overall looking great. The Doc wants her to start physical therapy to help build her muscles & body back up. We should find out days and times hopefully Monday. She's still having heal pain from planter fasciitis, that will hopefully go away soon. Her doctors are also setting up an appointment for her to see an endocrinologist. Hopefully all will go well.

hugs to all of you,

Holly

January 13th- Mondays appointment in Boston-Shaina's still on some meds, but things are going good. At her next Boston appointment they are going to start her re-vaccination schedule. She needs to get all of her vaccines all over again (yes even the ones she received as an infant). Thank goodness they wont be all at once. She will get the first 3 to 5 at her next appointment. Poor girl isn't looking forward to any of them:(

Good evening,

Shaina had a good doctor visit at the beginning of the month. That week her stomach hurt so at the next visit they adjusted her medication. They did a CAT scan of her stomack as well and there were no abnormalities. She seems to be feeling better again.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts.
