I thought it would be fun to work on Christmas ornaments throughout the year enabling us to have enough ornaments to decorate our trees for Christmas 2015 and work on our Homespun Christmas Merit Badge :) I will add an ornament idea for each month (or if someone would want to substitute). I would love to hear some feedback and welcome you girls to join

I know I am off to a late start for January but here is an idea I found for January's Homespun Ornament:

I need to apologize for not keeping up with this girls! I am so sorry. We have had much going on for the past few months and I 'think' that things are on their way back to normal (or whatever it was before:))

That is really cute Jaime! I love hearts:)

Debbie, welcome! I think that your Grandma would love and appreciate the tree!!! You may want to start a new thread for the Christmas 2016 Gift Challenge. That way more girls will see it:)

I wish I would've seen this challenge a long time ago....I don't think I am going to catch up at this point for this coming Christmas! But, I am inspired to start this coming January to work on and complete my Homespun Christmas expert level badge. I've been working on ornaments this past year and I'm planning on finishing them and using some to decorate a small tree to take to my grandma that lives in an assisted living home. I think she'd enjoy having her own little tree in her room! I'm also going to make a list at the beginning of the year for which gifts to make for each family member and work on them all year so everything is ready for Christmas 2016! Anyone care to join me?

Love all the ideas! I make ornaments every year, usually for gifting but some are so cute I make them again to keep! Here is one I found inspiration for on Pinterest:

Hey Erin, no worries! Post when you can :)

Welcome Marilyn! Ornaments would make a perfect hostess gift. I once read about a woman (I wish I could remember who!)that kept a basket of homemade ornaments by her tree. When someone would visit during the holidays she would give them an ornament to take home :) I think this is a great idea.

Sara, you know I like your idea better!!!

Lately I just haven't had the patience to hold and hot glue all those pieces together. Yesterday it came to me how do make this months ornament.

Cut a simple Christmas tree pattern out of cardboard and glue the pieces on to it in graduating lengths & sizes. Decorate with a few buttons. Will get it done this week.

Have a blessed day, Sara

oh my! Just what I need -- ha ha ha I was paging through these and they are all wonderful -- you are all so creative. I especially like the repurposed kitchen items one. We have been putting up a tree with nothing but tiny white lights on for several years, but having these ornaments to give as gifts or to hang singly from a light fixture would just be too pretty. In my former life, I put up several trees every year and one of them was a kitchen tree -- cookie cutters, etc. I may have to do some kind of theme this year and give these as hostess gifts -- so many opportunities to "gift" someone.

I have completed the first ones, but just can't get a handle on what to do with this one. Hopefully before the end of the month I will be struck by an idea and do it.

Hey girls, I am such a failure at this challenge! I started January's ornament, but never finished it. Had ideas for the rest, and I keep checking in on this thread, but I have not completed a single one! It's funny how I can get swaps done, letters written, but when it's something for me alone, it goes on the back burner. I'll probably surprise everyone and complete them all in September or something, lol!

Sharon - I am so sorry to hear about your mom! Hoping she has healed from the surgery and all of you are over the flu! Life has been crazy hectic here as well, though hopefully it is finally calming down a little now. I still have not done March's ornament, or April's, but I plan to have both done by the end of the month. I'll keep you updated :)

How are you ladies doing?

March was a busy and not so fun month at our house with the flu and then my Mom who lives with us had foot surgery (she's 84 and is doing good!).

I still have to post my photo. Sara, your ornaments sound great using natural colors.

Here is the ~*~Ornament challenge for April~*~

Since Spring is here, it means cleaning up the gardens and pruning trees. This ornament is a perfect way to use those branches you have pruned

I hope that everyone is doing well!

Sara I love the quote you have of asking the Lord to put his arms around you shoulders and hand over your mouth. I struggle with comes out of my mouth sometimes. It nice to be reminded of it and to ask God for help.

Working on getting caught up with this challenge. Will post pictures as soon as I do.

Sharon, I really like this month's challenge. Have already started collecting items to use. My base will be a soft gold sardine can which should work with my natural theme. I always have sardine cans handy because I save them for hen n/ chickens babies.

I have several sizes of twine/rope to choice from;rusty stars; buttons. And I have a crazy idea running around in my head to use one of MaryJane's cows from her Milk Cow Fresh Butter fabric. Will cut one out and see if it will work. Could put in on sticky foam to make it stand out.

Brenda, welcome! Pinterest does have alot of wonderful ideas. If you've created any ornaments please post photos if you can :)

Sara, I love your idea of using natural colors, perfect! Your ornament sounds so cute!

Shannon, I look forward to seeing your ornament :) I didn't know that Modge Podge came in glitter, how cool!

~*~MARCH~*~

For the ornament challenge for March, we will be re-purposing vintage kitchen goodies :) I know that Mary Jane has featured these in her magazine and Pinterest also has some really cute ideas using vintage tart tins, jello molds, etc.

An example:

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/21884748165112831/

There is so much room for creativity with this ornament, using birds, deer, trees, vintage graphics, etc.

Have fun girls!!!!

I made this month's ornament out of a doily. I used a glittery modge podge, so it is kinda sparkly :) I'll try to post pictures of it later :) Looking forward to seeing what March's will be :)

Today I'm working on this month's ornament. A small natural colored quilted square with a white fleece heart sewn on it with a button. Each month I will keep a natural color scheme since all 12 ornaments will be showcased in a bowl or basket. Hope to use buttons on each ornament.

I'm kind of late, but would love to join in. Will have to catch up with the rest of you. I have a board on Pinterest of just ornaments to try. Most of them are handmade. Maybe some of you would like to check them out.
