On June 29th I took a fall from the small deck to the patio (2 steps). As it turns out my husband sent me directly to the hospital and my ankle was fractured. They wrapped my foot to knee and gave me some crutches. I nearly killed myself within a couple days on the crutches and finally got my boot. The boot seems the right size but whenever I wear it the outside of my ankle bone half way to my knee feels like I have a hot poker in my leg.

I've been trying to be a trooper here and not wine about anything. I have tried wrapping my foot and using my gym shoes and just my gym shoes too. I have wrapped it in the heating pad and dunked it in a bucket of ice water. I have succeeded in getting some relief with the swelling and bruising but that one spot on the outside of my ankle to mid-calf still feels like I have a hot poker in it. I cannot really touch it since it hurts so bad.

Anyone have any ideas that I have not done yet for the swelling and bruising that have not gone away yet?

Oh, JUDY! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! Your poor sister! How are you feeling now? Is it getting better? Listen, when you're enduring such a painful injury, it's absolutely okay to whine a little...or, at least, have a little wine! ;)I hope you're doing okay! I just saw this for the first time this morning! I will be praying for you! Hugs and love - Nini

I so know how you feel! A few years back, I had a Tib/Fib fracture with a dislocation. Very painful and debilitating. My best advise is to go to a medical supply place. Get one of those little carts on wheels, where you can rest your knee. The less pressure you put on that bone the better it will heal. Here's a link for one at Walmart. http://www.walmart.com/ip/43153333?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227031116063&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=53411818112&wl4=pla-111822453152&wl5=9017568&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=43153333&wl13=&veh=sem

Thank you all so much for your advice. I ended up getting Arnica Gel which helped with the pain, swelling and bruising. I am pretty much healed but still have trouble pivoting. That will take a little more time but should go away soon. Again, thank you all for caring.

God bless,

Judy how is the foot doing? If, not better look up a Pulse Center in your area. PEMF can relieve the pain and speed up the healing. I use this method myself and have healed faster than my usual slow time.
Check out my website www.mjaramillo.bemergroup.com Dr. Oz even endorses this kind of therapy. I am working on getting my own unit in my home just because of these types of injuries and for my own personal healing needs.

I agree with Kate, comfrey poultice is wonderful. It is extremely helpful with swelling and bruises.

Judy, I don't have any new ideas for you but I'm sorry this happened. I hope you can get feeling better soon and figure out what's going on.

I agree with Winnie on this too !!!
YOUR foot looks bad....get another opinion.
It may be more serious than you may think?
I twisted up a ankle years ago and well big
mistake was going to just one Dr. he made a
mess of my ankle will never be right he did not
treat it properly at the time. by time I figured
it out was too late the damage had been done.
will always have trouble with that ankle.
I have had you on my mind and concerned for you.

Judy, due to the painful situation you find yourself in, I would revisit the orthopedic doctor for an evaluation. It is possible that the boot needs adjusting or that there are other options to help stabilize the fracture while it is healing. I should not hurt as badly as it does so something is not right and most likely you are not going to be able to fix the situation. Don't shy away from the idea of going back to the doctor for further evaluation as things change with swelling and bruising. Take care and let us know how you are getting along. I hope you get relief very soon!

IF it were me ---- this is what I would be doing
soak some in Epsom salt and put on a comfrey poultice
Have delt with sprain and fractured ankles in past not
just mine but friends. some were bad about like yours.
get comfrey leaf or powder if no plant available.
BUT need to be aware where it is placed that
is where the fracture will heal. IT doesn't take long for
healing to begin. I had a friend once his looked about
like yours real bad. went to ER they basically sent him
home with pain pills. He came to me for help I had a
comfrey patch and fixed up a poultice for him and he said
the next day pain was far less and swelling was starting to
go down. took very few days and he went back to work.
worked construction at the time and had not been able to
get work boots on. He was stunned at how well his ankle
was even after a couple days. He had been afraid it had been
broken they didn't even xray it at the ER.
I have seen comfrey work wonders before.
THis is what I would do if it were MY leg. I cant
prescribe but can share what "I" would do and what I have
experienced through the years.
Friends have jokingly called me "witch doctor" lol
Wish you the best.
let us know how your doing in a day or two will be thinking
about you. and say a prayer or two.

Have you tried soaking it with Epsom salts? Supposed to help with the swelling.

Judy, I don't have anything to add to what you have already tried. Just wanted to say how sorry I am that you are in pain.
