I saw this on another site. You put either one of those little battery lights or a small tea light in side and it makes a really pretty light. This old lateran has a red globe, I have another one that has a blue globe. I tried it with a small tea light and it was really pretty. I don't remember where I got the laterans but when I was looking at them the other day I thought I should make use of them. So Richard painted them for me, and there it is.

Posted - Oct 31 2019 : 10:38:44 AM Nancy, what a great idea for using your lantern!!! I think the red one will be especially fun at Christmas and Fourth of July decorating. Enjoy your new repurposing for such a nice example of a past era.

Posted - Oct 30 2019 : 06:21:06 AM I have one just like it. It is an old railroad lantern. Mine has “Long Island Railroad” on the glass. I did this same thing a few years back (it was on my blog at the time). It isn’t the easiest to do, as the bottom isn’t fitted for a tea light, however, a canning jar lid fits inside the bottom. You just have to take the whole thing apart every time. I moved mine to a hook in the kitchen because after awhile, it started to weather.
I am curious...why do you not want a red light on the porch? What does it signify? I have not heard anything about that...
