as Christmas gifts?
I run a cleaning service. Once I made my clients cookies and candies. I don't think they went over very well. Last year I made a jar light for a couple of the gals and they seemed to like them. And I made a fleece throw blanket for the couple I clean for and they really liked it. But I have a few more clients this year and I don't think goodies will work and I guess I'm just really not sure about homemade anything for these new clients. I would love to do homemade but I'm drawing a blank as to what.
Do any of you have any suggestions?

Homemade fudge and cookies.. I love it when I get that as a gift. When I make fudge to give, everyone likes it and it's to the point they expect it and prefer it. Are they fitness people who don't eat sweets, a basket of fresh fruit is nice to recieve also.

yeah a few of the gals are always on a diet at Christmas. I will never understand that-- dieting at Christmas? [shaking head].
I LOVE cookies and candy and so do most of my family! Fruit is a good idea. Thank you

I like the cookie & fudge idea, or a nice card. I usually do that, or a bottle of wine to my favorite clients. It's difficult to do something personal unless you're really sure about their taste. If you make something for the house and then don't see it displayed you risk having your feelings hurt.
I think they should be giving YOU gifts for keeping their places neat and clean!

I would never give food items unless I knew them personally because, they might have medical reasons why they can't eat certain things , i.e., diabetes. Alcohol can be iffy also, could be recovering alcoholic, or just plain do not drink. How about a nice basket with exotic lotions and soaps, bath oils etc.

Not certain you even need to give gifts. Do you receive a gift or tip at Christmas from them? In this economy, I'd just send a card and a thank you for your business message. That's what I receive from all my vendors and that's all I expect.

Well the one couple are really good to me. I have worked for them for a couple of years. They always give me a nice tip at Christmas and they pay me "vacation pay" when they are out of town on days that I would clean for them. I know some service providers will ask you to pay even when you don't use their service but I'm not like that. It's just something my couple do out of generosity.
The other place well is an apartment complex. So my boss there is really like my co-worker. We have two office managers and two maintenance men. We usually do a small Christmas gifts for each other.
I have one new client. Right now I don't have too many clients, but I know what you mean Katie. I do hope to bring on more and I can see where it could be expensive to do a gift for all of them evetually. But I would like to give them a little something that shows them that I appreciate their business and that I am thinking of them over the holidays.

Last year, I bought the big Hershey bars when they were on sale and I made my own candy label using my printer and computer, but you could use rubber stamps, scrapbook paper, etc. I wrote a poem to go with it. I called it 'Mrs. Baker's Christmas Fudge' and it was a huge hit. The poem goes like this:
Every year at Christmas time,
I make my friends a treat
It comes straight from my kitchen,
Something chocolatey and sweet.
This year I had the best intentions,
But my schedule wouldn't budge
So here is this year's version of
My tasty Christmas Fudge.
They loved it! I'll see if I can find pictures of the label I made so you can get a better idea of what they look like finished. You can also do some clever little things like 'Snowman Sandwiches', Snowman Soup, and the ever popular 'Reindeer Poop' or 'Snowman Poop'. If you're interested in learning more about any of them, just let me know and I'll be happy to post the instructions.
If you sew, you could always make pocket tissue holders like this one that I just made for a swap on another board. This picture also shows a snowflake sandwich (a peppermint patty with a wrapper) that matched the Kleenex holder I made.

I think that's very sweet of you to show your clients that they are appreciated :)
If you have a signature item that you bake or can that would be good. People always expect to get Homemade Marshmallows from me at Christmas (along with Home Roasted Coffee beans - my husbands specialty)
I think canned goods would be good. I know at Christmas we get bombarded with homemade cookies and candy from everyone it's nice when we get a canned item (longer shelf life and we can enjoy it without the sugar rush)

There used to be books on different homemade recipe jars to give as gifts. You place the dry ingredients in a canning jar that's made all festive along with the instructions on how to make whatever it is-cookies,soup,etc. easy to put together,home made,and whoever receives it get to put the work into it. Sounds like it might be good if you have a good number of clients!

Gooseberry Patch has a lot of those jar mixes that are yummy. Their cookbooks have crafts and holiday ideas too. Good luck!

How about a little jar of jam or jelly. Maybe something a bit more "gourmet". I made raspberry barbecue sauce one time.

I like the gourmet thing too! I have a recipe for Vanilla-Pear Jelly or Plum-Vanilla Syrup :)

| I personally love homemade goodies because they come from the heart, but some people aren't into it. I don't think you can go wrong with a nice bottle of wine and a card. That's a nice gift for any occasion. |
