This is sort of a weird question, but I help to run a large support group for homeschoolers and I have the fortune to talk to a lot of kids about their dreams and aspirations. One young lady and I were talking about maryjane magazine and how much we both love it (which is a credit to maryjane magazine because there are at least 30 years between us two fans!) Anyway she said she would love to go to school to learn how to design magazine pages like those in maryjane but she has no idea how you get started. Is there a specific field/type of schooling that you might suggest that I could pass along to her to investigate? My field of work is all people-oriented, not computer or print-oriented and neither her mother or I know which direction to send her. Any information you might be able to send my way would be lovingly passed on to this future maryjane writers!

Thanks so much!!!!

Happy Trails!

definitely computer graphics plus basic art classes to understand about balance, space, color ect...A good adviser in the Arts at a University will be able to tell you what would be the best for what you are wanting to do & learn....I majored in the arts & education so I know if you even go to a 2 D art professor on campus he/she would have great ideas for you...but to sweeten the pot offer to buy them a cup of coffee that doesn't not come out of the machine....Michele'

Hi Rachael.
I'm so glad you enjoy our magazine and that your students do too! Have your student look into the Graphic Design field; she'll learn how to design printed materials with that line of study. She'll probably also want to look into Web Design at this point, since many publications are also published online. Expertise in both areas is a winning combination!

Thank you so much! We were guessing journalism, but graphic design and web design sound a lot more on key with what she wants to do. Poor kid, last time I did a layout for a magazine was in high school and it was the old cut and paste method. Thanks for your help and honestly the design of the magazine is about half of why I read it. It is beautifully done.

Happy Trails!

Speaking of the magazine, I can't remember when I got my last one. What is on the cover of the most recent one?
