Good morning! I missed y'all and needed to see what everyone was up to this Spring. I've been having a rough time dealing with a crippled up knee and learning to live with constant pain, but I'm adapting. Some days when you're in a lot of pain you just don't want to either rattle on and on at people or be Miss Crabbydrawers, so I've not posted in a while
I'm working on a series of tub gardens for this year since I can't get down to the ground to weed and garden like I used to. The biggest worry is getting tall enough and strong fencing around my garden area to keep the landlady's goats out. Cattle panels are just so spendy these days and they utterly trashed the electric mesh that I got last year.
Glad to finally feel smiley enough to post again

Sorry to hear about your knee problem, what a bummer. Are you doing any exercises for it? Riding a bike might be a good one, also from a sitting position extending your knee forward. Of course ice works as well. Hope it gets better so you can do more, take your time go slow and wear a knee brace when working. |

Nice to see you posting again, Annika. What are you planting in your garden this year? Marly

So glad to hear you feeling better and hope you solve the goat issue. Some how just getting your hands in the dirt in springtime seems to make things bearable. I will be thinking of you and hope that the pain is bearable.

As for exercise, its been kind of rough over the winter learning to get around with a cane and I've been rather house bound. But I've been doing a lot of dance stretches and leg exercises at home. I'm working on walking so that I can do our local trails, and hopefully, some small hikes around our nearby wilderness areas. So far, I'm rather slow and clumsy, but I'm not too worried about it.
Marly, I'm growing a bunch of heirlooms and some organic potato varieties, Yukon Gold and Desiree. I'll be getting what I can for tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and other long season veggies at our local farmer's market. This is the list so far ...Golden midget water melon, coosa summer squash, lincoln peas, potimarron winter squash, cocozelle summer squash, old fashioned yellow crookneck, all manner of greens, both western and asian! little round Parisian carrots, poona keera cucumber, romano and fava beans for trellising, red cipolinni onions from Italy, amish snap peas, fin de bagnol beans, mini muskmelons, rapini broccoli, musquee de provence pumpkin, bush delicata squash, a zillion different herbs and more to come =) All to be grown in big tubs and pots! I want to try to plant mounds of golden bantam corn so that I can have fresh organic corn this summer and I'm coming up with a series of hoops to grow them in as wind protection since corn tends to get knocked flat out here. You can buy "hula" hoops at the dollar store and it would give me a very bright garden to have all of the kid colored hoops supporting my corn!
So....I am aiming big as usual but I am hoping that at least half of what I plant makes it and it will be a lesson in container gardening with a bad knee. OH! and my plum trees have blossomed great guns and are buzzing with bees, so I'm hoping for a good plum crop. These are the little golden European Mirabelle plum and they make delightful syrups and jellies!

Annika: Happy planting, and do take care of yourself. A friend of mine recently had knee replacements, and she is doing great. She is still slow at walking and uses a cane. The doctor told her by summer she should be walking on her own. Keep us posted, Annika, and again, it's so nice to see your posts again. Marly

Welcome back, Annika! You sure have been missed around here! I am so sorry to hear about your knee! Does wearing a brace or wrapping it with an ACE bandage help at all?

So sorry to hear about your knee. Hopefully it will mend soon and you will be up and running around on no time. Tub gardens? This sounds interesting to me...hope to see or hear more about them from you.
