Hi farmgirls! Here's an excerpt from MJ's book that comes out May 24, included for the purpose of prompting you to divulge your birthdays to me!!! I can keep track of them here and announce your special day to everyone here who chats. E-mail your date and chatroom "title/name" to me at birthdays@maryjanesfarm.org. Let's fuss and celebrate like MaryJane's mother did!!! "My mother met twice a month, without fail, for almost fifty years with a group of fifteen women that came from a cross section of religions. 'We called ourselves 'The Girls.' Jerry Grill, who lived four doors down, got the group started. She was outgoing and began inviting women to her house in the mornings for tea after we got our children off to school. When we had toddlers, we put them all together in a playroom in her house. Eventually, we moved our meetings to the evenings so our husbands could tend the children and we'd get a break. One night a month was always set aside for pinochle and the other night for needlwork--crocheting, embroidery, and knitting. And we always made a big deal out of our birthdays."

Mine is November 11, 1972. Kinda nice to have my birthday off work (when I am employed outside the home that is....otherwise I am working 24/7!)

Bicentennial - being born on the fourth of July, 1976 was a special time for me. I remember all the fun things everyone did to celebrate, and there was still a place in my heart that took it personally! I know that is goofy, but it was in my heart from birth, and my birthday was the same as our country's and I loved it.

In my city, people painted fire hydrants in red, white and blue! How weird is that? I wish I had done a photo collage of them, because they were quite original, and maybe a handful still exist unpainted since then. It was so wonderful to see everyone so patriotic and full of love for the USA.

I graduated from high school in 1976! I remember that the bicentenniel thing was such a "theme" for our class..and that our tassles on our graduation caps were red white and blue instead of just the usual blue like other years.
