Saturday, while at a festival in Waxahachie, TX, I found this beautiful quilt in an antique shop. It is a very nice example of a postage stamp quilt - so named because each piece of fabric is only 3/4" square when finished. The quilt is 85 squares by 93 squares, so there are 7,905 squares in this quilt, and each was hand pieced and then the quilt was hand quilted. This quilt took a long time to make, and I cannot believe someone would give this quilt up.
And my cat, Calli, has already found the quilt.

What a beautiful quilt! I cannot imagine putting a quilt of such small pieces together! The time and concentration that must have taken! Great find!

Fantastic find Quiltee!!!! Speaking of "gets," I love my new dish drainer quilt, super clever scrubby rag, and microwave bowl holder.

I'll get a photo posted. You are such a dear to think of us like that.

Thanks, all - I love, love, love this quilt. All the colors!

I'm so glad you like them, MaryJane. I had fun making them. I love mine, too.
Those scrubby rags are so easy peasy to make - and so are the microwave bowl potholders. And everyone loves using them.

What a great find! The pattern reminds me of when we used to make gum wrapper chains, the zig zag of the pattern in different colors. I am glad you rescued this quilt. It deserves to be re-appreciated. Annie

Beautiful quilt... I also have a postage stamp quilt that my grandma made me. I no longer use it on my bed, because I am afraid to cause it too much wear as I want it to last forever. So much work goes into a quilt.

Sometimes people just don't have any idea what time and thought go into something of such beauty. It was probably made for someone special who is long gone. So glad it fell into the hands of someone who will appreciate and treasure it.

I read an interesting bit on the web recently. A lady was selling hand-crocheted afghans at a craft fair. A shopper came by and picked up one of the afghans, studying it carefully and turning it over and over in her hands. "Your work is lovely, but you charge too much!" The crocheter thanked the shopper, but said that she felt her prices were well in line. The shopper persisted. "I would love to have you make one of these for me in green yarn, but I would only be willing to pay about half what you are charging. I figured x dollars for yarn, x dollars for the little ribbons, and I will even throw in x dollars for the needles or hooks or whatever it is that you use." The weary crocheter took the woman's payment and address and promised delivery "ASAP," at the shopper's request.

A week or so later, the bargain-hunting shopper found a package at her door. She opened it to find 5 skeins of green yarn, 2 yards of ribbon and a brand new crochet hook, along with a note from the crocheter. "Here are the materials you requested -- I won't charge you extra, even though the materials cost a little more than you paid me. Enjoy crocheting your afghan."
