There are a lot of porchies from Ohio now. Judy and now Patsy are a few hours east of us. My in laws go over their way a couple times a year to visit Holmes county. I thought it would be fun to have a get together some time but it's so hard for us to get away from the farm.

Only 2 weeks until the first baby is due. I did find this lovely surprise yesterday:

4 new kittens in the calf hutch!

Karen - no more critters, but I do have a lot of sewing and craft supplies and way more cook books than I need LOL!

We should have more kittens soon. One of the cats looks like she's about to burst! And we only have a week left until our first calf is due. I can't wait!

I like them just don't buy them at regular price. If I find them cheap at a garage sale or thrift store I'll pick them up. I've received a couple as gifts - mostly Christmas ones that have crafts and recipes in them. My mother in law loves them! She has quite the collection and a lot of our holiday favorites come from them. She even has a plate stand that she uses to display one and it will vary with the season or her mood. The best part is she just lives across the yard so I can borrow them any time :)

I love Gooseberry Patch as well. I have a small collection and always look for them at thrift stores. They used to have a catalog with a whole lot more than cookbooks. Does anybody remember that? So many wonderful gift items and kitchen goodies. I could do most of my Christmas shopping from that catalog and was sad when it ended.

A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.

Oh girls!!!! I’m so happy to have found some Gooseberry Patch lovers!!! Wanda Sue, I loved their catalog so much! I would sit for hours and just take in all of the little touches and tucks of wisdom or quotes. Shopping from the catalog was great too…they would wrap your order in the Gooseberry Patch tissue paper. Sigh….

Heather…I’ll be there soon…lol

Wanda, I loved their catalog. They had such great items in there. Lots of cute stuff!

Congrats Heather on the first calf. I just love baby animals. I always loved when we were weaning and teaching them to drink. Some funny moments were had.

When did the catalog end? I didn't know there was one, but I didn't get into Gooseberry until I met my mother in law. I bet it was wonderful!

Karen - I'll leave the light on for ya LOL!

Denise - did you ever have any tricks to teaching them to drink? I read a couple years ago to put a rubber duck on top of the milk bucket. Not sure what it's supposed to do but it has never worked for me LOL! Freya took right to the bucket this morning. I let her suck on my fingers to show her the milk in the bucket and away she went! Tonight was the same. She was sucking on the bottom of the bucket until I led her to the top. It went so easy it makes me wonder what the next one will be like LOL!

No tricks. Just used our fingers but it was always the same. They dove right in and made a mess till we got them to figure out drinking from the top.

Heather, thank you! I just love all the baby calf stories.
I remember all of my Grandpa's calves. Any more pics of those kittens?
They were the most 'spotty' kitties I've ever seen. Was the dad dalmatian? Haha keep those pics coming as you can, 'dear friend'!
Wow, it's so windy today. 38. We've had snow showers all day.

They're just trying to fit in with the herd LOL! They're getting big fast:

Here's the mom:

She had 4 kittens last year also:
This is the only one I can pet

The 2 black and white ones

and this one

Scared black cats that dart out in front of you in the early morning darkness tend to accelerate your heart rate!!! Happens a lot LOL!

Thank you Heather! Awww, adorble kittens. All those warm fuzzy wuzzys running around. I'd be trying to pet them all. The best part is, you have lots of mousers there, and that's a good thing on a farm(except, all the mice you probably get on your doorstep as thank yous for feeding them).
Tell that mama cat, no more all black kittens. Need at least 1 visible white spot. lol

That mama cat showed up last year and never left! She's not friendly and last years babies were hidden away so they're not friendly except for the one. I can pet him but he's not a fan of being picked up! I go in and pet the new babies everyday. The one with the mostly white face seems to enjoy it. The others hiss and me and then settle down. I'm not sure how well they can see yet. I usually leave mama some food by her babies so she's leaving them there :)

Look what else we have:

This is little Debbie and her new baby Darla :) She's a spunky little thing. She runs and jumps around all the time!

We had 3 more babies. I don't have time for pictures at the moment but there were 2 more girls and a boy!
