Many. many moons ago, I had a lovely Christmas cactus plant that was a 'start' from a dear sweet neighbor... after moving to Washington, then back to Calif., I could no longer drag the plant along with me,, so before moving back to Washington, I bequeathed it to a plant loving friend.. she also got all my Violets...
Well,, I for what ever reason never replaced that cactus plant, and honestly hadn't seen any.. then the other day I had to dash into Wal-mart for some red cotton fabric (to finish up a gift)... and as I entered the store,, there was a rack with about 2 dozen, somewhat sad looking Christmas cactus' ,,, so I found one that I liked and now it is home with me.. and today, it looks a bit perkier... I can hardly wait for the buds to pop open.

Diana, yours are beautiful. I didn't know they could live that long. What a treasure.
Grace, I'm glad you found one and with your TLC it'll do just fine.
I have a white one given to me last Christmas by my nephew's church where he is the pastor. It's in full bloom now. I didn't expect it to make it because it was from a florist and I usually don't have much luck with one of their plants living.

Diana, that is amazing! That plant is very precious. And they are beautiful.
Do Christmas Cactus only bloom this time of year? I’m intrigued by them! Are their any small ones or are they all large?

Diana...those are just breath-takingly Beautiful!!! I was not aware that they lived that long either! I have seen some that were 25-30 years old but not 100 yrs old. I hope you are going to Will those to someone! It would be amazing to see just how long they lived.

Waiting not so patiently for mine to bloom. It has buds on it. It's weird as I've had it bloom at thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine's and st. Patrick's day. One right after another same plant. The buds would all fall off and more would come on.

I was at my mother in laws yesterday and seen one of these Christmas Cactus. I had no idea she had one since its in one of the bedrooms. Its already blooming a beautiful red! She told me that I could take some starts off of it. I'm going to do some research and take some starts. You ladies have inspired me!

Diana, Do you keep your's in that spot year round? I'm trying to figure out where I should have this plant in order for it to do well. Mine has leaves like it is a Thanksgiving cactus but the buds are just coming on so I'm not sure when it will bloom. I never knew different leaves meant what time of year it would bloom.

Christmas cactus are just beautiful with all the different colors now. I had a beautiful dark pink one for years that grew huge and bloomed every Christmas season. Then one year, the stem just split and the plant died. I couldn't get the broken pieces to root either. Since then, I haven't had one, but I saw them in the grocery store last week, so I might try my luck again with growing one. They are striking when they get big and blooms are everywhere!!

My mother in law just bought a little one. I didn't think about getting a start from it - I'll have to look into how to do it. Who knows - maybe 100 years from now it'll still be blooming LOL!! That really is amazing Diana!!!

I received a red Christmas cactus from my nephew's church today. It's beautiful. My hope is it does as well as the white one they gave me last year.

I recently purchased a small white Christmas cactus at our local garden center. It's the smallest Christmas cactus that I've seen. It's super cute. I really am excited to watch it grow as the years go by.
Blessings to you all!!
