I am feeling so much better after my shoulder surgery and COVID so let’s have some fun!
Our theme for February will be Madi Gras, such a fun time in New Orleans and I have always wanted to visit during that time. The Parade, dancing and all the beautiful colors, and beads!
So I thought making a Mini Mask ATC would be fun. Mardi Gras is February 21st so there is plenty of time to work on you ATC. Lots of color with glitter too!
Sign ups will run through February 5th with mail out by the 10th to get to your partner in time.

Artist trading cards (ATCs) are miniature pieces of art that are traded around the world. Artists create, trade and collect art at organized "swap" events, either in person or online. The only official rule for ATCs is the size: 2.5" x 3.5". Artist Trading Cards are the same format as modern trading cards (hockey cards or baseball cards). Alternately you may choose to use a round ATC Coin of 2.5" diameter. They are self-made unique works or small series, signed and dated on the reverse by the artist/producer, exchanged and collected by the people who participate in the collaborative performance.
Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are a conceptual art project initiated by the Swiss artist M. Vanci Stirnemann. He called it a Collaborative Cultural Performance. In 1997 he created 1200 cards by hand as part of an exhibit. On the last day, he invited others to create their own cards and trade with him during the closing reception. The movement took off, and today, there are ATC swaps in almost every major city around the world!
You can make ATCs with many different media including paper, fabric, felt, metal, wood, clay, paint, stamps, embellishments and more. There are tons of ideas and inspiration available online if you google ATC or Artist Trading Cards.

I'll happily sign up Debbie! I have very fun memories of growing up for a few years in New Orleans as a kid. Lived Ms LeBlanc, my 4th grade teacher. Dad used to take us to the Mardi grand parades a lot and mom would take the beads we got and melt them in cupcake tins to make paper weights for our teachers. Loved the deblums the most, like play money! :)
There's NO WAY I'd attend one nowadays. Not the same as when I was growing up. Sad too.

OK . . . sew I have too much on my plate right now. Sew I am NOT going to play in this swap. But I just wanted to drop in and tell you how much I love Mardi Gras as you can see from this photo. Oh my, the stories I could tell y'all about Mardi Gras . . . but that's for another day.
Be sure to make a pot of Jambalaya, don your mask and beads and watch "The Big Easy" on Mardi Gras -- that's what we'll be doing.

Yep. Sure do direct from the class I took at the New Orleans School of cooking. Here 'tis . . . yummo. If you can't find Andouille sausage, ask the butcher at the supermarket. He can order some for you. It does make a difference.
JAMBALAYA
2 lbs cooked chicken cubed
2 lbs smoked (Andouille) sausage cut into coins
1 large onion chopped
1/2 chopped green pepper
1/2 cup chopped parsley
2 stalks celery chopped
5 cloves garlic chopped
3 ripe tomatoes chopped
1 tsp dried thyme
2 bay leaves
1 Tbsp Cajun seasoning
2 cups uncooked rice
2 cups chicken stock
In a thick skillet with a tight cover, brown the chicken and sausage in a small amount of oil. Add the onions and stir over medium heat until they are limp. Add green peppers, parsley, celery, garlic, tomatoes, thyme and bay leaves. Add Cajun seasoning continue to cook and stir for about 5 minutes. Add the rice and stock. Cover and let simmer over very low heat for 30 minutes. Do not uncover until near the end of cooking time adding 1/2 cup additional stock if it seems too dry. Serves 10.
If you really want to serve a great Mardi Gras meal, be sure to make pecan prailines for dessert or better yet, splurge and go to www.paulspastry.com -- A Mississippi bakery that mail orders awesome King Cakes.
