Yesterday Annie killed a wee snake. Don't know what kind it was because by the time she got through playing with it in the dirt I couldn't make out any markings. Just guessing it was probably a copperhead since that's the only kind of snake I have seen in my backyard. Annie kills baby snakes almost every year. So far I haven't seen a grown one and don't want to.

It sounds like Annie is protecting you. I am not a fan of snakes at all, so I don't blame you. Has Annie ever been bitten by one of those snakes?

I'm glad Annie is a good guard dog :) Have you heard your owl lately?

My husband and I are fans of snakes because they keep other harmful pests out of the yard, but a copperhead is a copperhead. I don't want to see one either. We have rattlesnakes around here when it starts to get warm. We don't want to see one of those either!!!

Krista so far she hasn't been bitten. A baby copperhead is as poisonous as an adult so it's a good thing she hasn't been bitten.

Heather I haven't seen the owls since last year but I hear them all the time. Not certain but I think it might have moved from the oak tree crossed the street from me. Annie is a good guard dog and companion. I am blessed to have found her at the animal shelter.

Nancy I know snakes kill varmints but I don't like snakes. In my yard I consider all snakes an endangered species. Endangered of being killed by me or Annie.

Sara, I am glad Annie hasn't been bitten. I hope she stays safe and never gets bit. She is a brave guard dog.

Gosh, Copperheads are poisonous and I am so glad Annie was not bitten in the process! Sara, I love your definition of snakes in your yard as endangered species!! I couldn't agree more!!

Snakes are my number 1 creature I can live without. When we lived in NJ we had black rat snakes. We killed at least 3 a year because they would get in the hens nest boxes.
