Oh Judith, I've got button envy!! Lol! You know what I used to do? I'd go to the thrift stores and look for pieces with unusual buttons and buy them just for the buttons! I found that blazer jackets and fancy blouses had the best.

Dianna, I've bought clothing at thrift stores just for the buttons too. I remember finding a lovely summer, floral print dress with wonderful floral shaped buttons on it. I did try the dress on, didn't like the fit, but I took off the buttons, that's for sure!

Don’t we all do that, lol? Thrifting a coat or sweater with beautiful buttons is usually cheaper than finding a card of vintage buttons.

I am so late commenting on this topic, but way back in the thread there was discussion about baskets, which I too collect and had a lot of fun years back meeting our farmgirl sister Deb (Blessed in Colorado) and we went thrift shopping. I scored a Longaberger basket for my
Collection that day, we had a great time!
And buttons!! I am so excited, I started collecting buttons in 5th grade. My friend and I had been walking around the playground after school and we found several buttons. We decided that day we would start collecting them and we would trade buttons and had so much fun! I still have my button collection and add to it frequently. She moved away and we lost touch, but I sometimes I wonder if she is still collecting buttons too.
An idea I saw, if anyone likes to do blackwork/cross stitch, was to make these beautiful button frames.

I sure miss you and our meeting up and thrifting for the day, we sure did have fun. The joy on your face was priceless when we found the Longaberger Basket. Those buttons with the black work/cross stitch are sweet and so pretty.
I love everyone’s collection of buttons! I just found a couple days ago my special and unique buttons, I have always keep them separate, I enjoyed looking at them again.

Sarah thank you so much for sharing this cross stitch. I did a lot years ago, but have never seen it framed like this. That is a wonderful way to highlight a prized button.
