I went in the other day to get my hair cut and I have this certain style I've always liked. The girls who cut it always tell me that it is way out dated and that it is so "80s". When I went in this last time the girl got all done cutting my hair and then started styling it for me (I go home and wash all the gunk out and style it my own way, but I figure I'll let them give it a shot ;)) So she gets all done styling it (it looked almost the same as when I do it at home only mine isnt quite so HIGH. She tells me that BIG hair is so much fun and she wishes she had big hair again.......
BIG HAIR??? Never in the last ten years that I've been wearing my hair this way, did I ever ever think of it as BIG HAIR!!
Who knows, maybe it will start a new 80s trends again...hehe
Anyone else seeing signs of the 80s making a comeback? (Besides the toys and leggings..lol)

lol...Maybe one of those rain hats that tie under the chin ;) Gotta love those..hehe

Oh, at at the store they had two types of Aqua Net. One was the unscented And they had one in a pink and silver can that said PLEASANT FRAGRANCE. I sprayed it and it didn't smell TOO bad, but Jessie's word STINKY came to my mind right away so I bought the unscented.

Okay, Jessie I laughed so hard at that story about smokng your hair!!!! LOL Oh my gosh, that was tooo funny!!! And Sherri, I can't even imagine that! I bet it hurt too her pulling that comb through your ratted out hair!!! Well to make things even better, TONIGHT I BOUGHT MY FIRST CAN OF AQUA NET!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big Hair, here we come! Now I'm going to rat mine at the, I guess it is the crown, I want it to be higher on top in the back. You know that style the girls wore I guess back in the late 60s. I saw it on the old movie, Valley of the Dolls. I can't WAIT to use my Aqua Net. I'm so excited!!! This is such a great topic!

hehe...yep! you have to be handy with the maneuvers when those sorts of things happen.
My hair is finally laying down some now that its growing back. I can get a haircut and not two weeks later its time for a trim again. It grows so fast!! :P

Luckily it was just a small amount and nothing more hairspray and maneuvering couldn't fix :)

oh how funny is that. What did you think when that happened, Sharon?
I have had it form to the place it got stuck, but never cut right off...lol..that is just terrible.
I remember having to wipe down the curling iron after it would get cold with alcohol because the iron wouldn't get hot enough for all the spray gunk on there.

hehe...I was definitly not a 'green' child..lol..as long as it made me look good (or at least what I thought look good) I wasn't too worried about the chemical smells or toxins. ;)

Oh wow Sherri! There sure would be lawsuits today.

Jessie, I used to do that to my hair too. One time I remember having SO much Aqua Net in my hair that when I was rolling up my car window, some hair got stuck (just a little) but the window closing chopped it! We call Aqua-Net Hair Lacquer here

PS: I love that praise song and it is SO TRUE!

lol..oh my gosh Sherri, I would have been having fits!! Teachers didn't get me so much for what I wore or hair or anything as much as they did for talking my head off. I think it was the hairspray fumes making me babble ...lol

I can't even imagine Sherri. You are right there'd be all kinds of outrage and hoop la if a teacher did that now. Its kinda sad really, but then you know secretly they went home and ratted theirs too ;)lol

One of my worst memories from my school years was when I was in sixth grade. I used to "rat" my hair up real high on the top of my head and do the little comb over. One day I was in the girls restroom doing just that when one of the teachers came in and just flipped out at me. She grabbed my shoulder and spun me around and started yanking my comb through my hair (the only word that really describes the way she was doing it is "violently") to comb out my teasing or ratting. I got chewed out up one side and down the other and they called my mom and I got in trouble again at home. It wasn't the hair style that got me in trouble with mom so much, but just the embarassment to her that she got a call from school. Can you imagine if a teacher did that now? There would be lawsuits and arrests and lots of lawyers involved. Back in the (dare I say it?) 50's, the teachers were omnipotent - that was the days of swats and knuckle rapping. I guess I didn't realize when I was styling my hair that they could also dictate your hair style! I also had the distinction for the rest of the year as being the inspiration for the new "law" at the school that only one sixth grade girl could go in the restroom at a time. I had forgotten that until just now! Wow, I can't believe how schools have changed!!

Carol--
I used to "smoke" my hair to get it nice and high. I would spray my hair first with hairspray and then use the curling iron. When the hair would start to smoke and crackle from the spray I knew it was going to be stiff enough..lol

hehe Carol.....AQUA NET is tried and true. It is stinky for sure, but that goes away. I used to wear my hair really big in the front and thats the only thing that would hold it in place. The wind wouldn't dare have moved a strand...lol

hugs!!

Cool Jessie, nice hair! I LOVE LOVE LOVE BIG HAIR!!! My hair is straight and is about 2 inches past my shoulders. Have bangs and sometimes I wear them straight and other times I push them over to the side. What I try to do is tease it up in the back and it looks great but I can't find any hairspray that will hold my hair real long. Girls, any recommends for really strong hold hairspray???????

Sharon-
I sprayed this down and used hot rollers to get it under control. I didn't want to look like a dork...lol ;)
But, you can imagine with this cut and without some taming what it can be like..;)
