Honestly I can't think of any large CITY that Punxsutawney is close to but it's where Phil the groundhog lives. Heard of him?
That part of Pennsylvania is a bit of an economically depressed area. There are no large factories there or anything any more. We lived in Reynoldsville near my husband's grandparents on the other side of the family and drove to Punxsy to do our grocery shopping. It's about a half hour from there. I guess Pittsburgh would be the largest city it is near and it is yes, NE of there. About an hour or so I think. There's also Altoona about an hour away too.

Ok I see it is between Punxsy and Reynoldsville. I'm going to tell you if you don't mind being out in an area where there is very little to do except stay at home then that is the place to go. DuBois is real close and there is a small mall there. That is also where the nearest movie theater is and there is a Walmart there. We lived in Reynoldsville 8 months and then moved back here. The taxes are low in that part of Pennsylvania and whether you would like it there or not all depends on what you are looking for. There are a lot of Amish out in that area and they have small stores where they sell bulk foods and handmade items. Usually they had them near their houses so they weren't easy to find. Mostly we found out from people who had been in the area for a long time.

Georgann posted the link so I figured she had an interest maybe...not I...I like having the convenience of a large city..I've got Chattanooga right now (180,000) and it's even too small to offer very many specialty shops.

I had to move quickly after Hurricane Katrina and wound up here but will be heading to Nashville as soon as we can sell this home and 5 acres.

I like having the covenience of being closer to a bigger city even though we are in the country here. I'm in the southern part of NJ where all the farms are. But we are only 40 minutes from Philadelphia and we shop in Deptford a lot which is about 50 minutes. There are other places nearer to us that are starting to be built up as far as shopping places. We are hoping for a Joann's to be put in. I did go online and found a Hancock's in Delaware so that is probably 45 minutes away. Gotta have those fabric shops close anyway.

Stephanie
Were you in New Orleans or surrounding area when Katrina hit?
I always wonder how the story ended for folks who lost their homes and jobs. We are on the Sabine river so Rita got us 3 weeks later but we didnt lose our place. One of my sons evacuated and they stayed in Missouri(even took the grandkids!!)

Bonnie, we don't have Hobby Lobby stores in California. I remember going to one while driving back to MA several years ago for a wedding.

Georgann....I am always keeping my eye open for farms near us...there is one for sale closeby with an old farmhouse, barn and 2 large pig barns.....around $300 thousand.....it has about 100 acres. BIG farm....I will keep my eyes open for more, though. Glad your son is moving home!

Also....DC is do-able for a day trip.....sounds like fun.

Jess...how ya feeling?

Bonne.....surely you can get away for a few days in June.....APRONFEST won't be the same without you!

Carol Sue.....I will see if those fairies can magically transport peppers and tomatoes your way.....I am up to my A*&^&*^!!!

Naomi....if you kept normal hours, you would have more of us to talk to!!

I thought of more to say to you all, but now I cannot remember after reading all the pages since yesterday..... I cannot remember who was asking for Michael Miller fabric....I found a great website for it....

Well, off to sew! Talk to y'all later...

Denise, we only have JoAnns and Wal-Mart, although the Wal-Marts are getting rid of the fabric departments. I have 3 JoAnns all within 6-7 miles in different directions from my home. When I take my son to his class, I will stop by one. The other day, dh wanted me to go to Costco, and there is a JoAnns right next to it. Of course I went, but had to go JoAnns first. This is the largest JoAnns store close by. I have another large one, but it is much further away.
