Jess! I love the aprons! Your mom is very lucky to have you!

I'm with Naomi and Jess in the under 50 crowd ;) Looks like all of you ladies have been keeping busy this week. I've got tomorrow off and am hoping to get some sewing done. Gotta get some more fabric for bias tape first though.

I guess the money I save on Kotex will help pay for my tri-focals! LOL
See, there is an up side to menopause!
Jess, the state flowers apron is beautiful. Love the pocket. Oh, and Nay...........get some sleep girl, you need it!
I did a bit of resewing last night. I ordered a beautiful vintage sundress off of the internet from a gal in Chicago, and ripped out the side seams and hem and refashioned it into a beautiful "hippy" style sundress to wear over a t-shirt and jeans for one of my daughters. It fits her beautifully and it is so, sew pretty! Let me see if I can get a snapshot of it................
I used tie-dye batiks for the side panels and for the tier added to the bottom. I might add more trim later. She likes it as is. She is going to wear it to school tomorrow since she has art on Thursdays and her art teacher encourages the students to dress artsy on art day! She is smaller than my sewing dummy, so I had to pin it up on it. It's really not crooked.
Well, gotta clean today. G

Jess! Lucky MOM!! (She just doesn't realize how lucky~Happy 50th! Mom!)
And even luckier cousin! Absolutely adorable!
Georgann, your daughter will be the "talk" in art class!
Oh, and Jess, yes pay attention. No one ever told us all what to expect. Our mothers just endured menopause and we thought they were nutz and people always just made jokes. Of course everyone's experience is somewhat different. I hate the way women's issues were something to be scoffed at~we need to take back the power and recognize the passages we all share. Yeah, it affects memory, energy and just overall well-being, but we should get badges of perserverence afterwards!! Not be the butt of jokes.

I agree with you Bonne. Women in their early 60's are just entering the peak of their power as a woman. It is a gathering of life experiences and shedding of inhibitions. It is being wise enough to know better, yet foolish to know you had better!!
Thanks, she loves it and it so fits her personality!! I'm hoping to instill some of this old mom into each of my young daughters and I think it is working. They are both independent and emotional strong, powerful little girls. Dani says she has a reputation of being a freethinker and free dresser and she loves that!! She doesn't want to be like the crowd of plastics around her! Yippeeeee!!! Hannah has always been an independent thinker and really doesn't care what others of her age think about her.....phew.............mission accomplished thus far!

I usually miss the AM talk so here is my afternoon reply to everyone about menopause ...
Jess and Naomi... y'all have the advantage of having new herbal discoveries that are not known yet. Women's health studies are taken more seriously now that the researchers finally realized how extremely different women's heart disease symptoms are from a man and that's just a beginning.
And the menopause issues will be on the front burner from here on out with such a big percentage of the population aging right now. Alot of us menopausal and postmeno.. have come into our own and are "forming New Trails where there aren't any Paths" and we are ready to do great things like never before!
So the issues of how menopause can steal away your energy, memory and other things...(what are they?)...LOL are really a hendrance but with determination and research can be overcome!
Oh, and the most important thing to possess at all times is a "sense of humor"!!! Without it you will become a bitter old woman with crooked fingers, toes and nose :o)

Yea, I laugh everytime I pee myself.....sneezing, running, and sometimes laughing hard!!! Laugh, pee, laugh more!!!
Bonne....what a treasure that book is....the aprons are great.
Georgann, I love the dress....very Bohemian...love that style, personally.
Ok, here is installment #2 of the RenFaire costume. Today I made the chemise to wear underneath. It is natural colored muslin and very long(mid-calf). Tomorrow I tackle the doublet (I think that is what it is called...vest type thingy)

I don't get too much into philosophy but I just wanted to add in a little to the discussion on menopause. Our bodies were created by a loving God to function in cycles, phases whatever you want to call it- but change. Just as our kids go through puberty with all those changes we go through similiar changes. So much of the american lifestyle interrupts and dis-rupts what our bodies are created to do. Moving in the direction of healthy choices-food,activity whatever must be better for us. As Stephanie said - there is new research all the time- but truly each of us must grow older and my hope is to do so in the most graceful manner possible. Growing old is not so bad- but gowing old & bitter or harsh -that scares me. I try to choose grace when I can- and I seek to surround myself with good examples of older graceful women- to keep me motivated. Now what does that have to do with aprons???

Autumn,
Aprons can say so many things but... Grace is definitely at the top of the list! I think that an apron can transform a woman's spirit so to speak. So I definitely think we are a group of graceful ladies at heart
