LOVE IT BONNE>>>>>>>>>>The bright colors are right up my alley at this time!!

Bev you are going to look beautiful! You are doing a fabulous job!!

Growing older.....hmmmm.......I don't mind so much, but I do mind the aches and pains that I have now that didn't used to be there. So many of them are from hard, abusive work that I have done over the years. I have always worked hard and used to play hard too. (taekwondo) I ned to be more kind to this body that has served me so well in childbearing, loving my family and just getting me to where I am now in my life.

I went cold turkey through the change and am hormone free. I'm not against the use of hormones, but when I finally realized that the horrific mood swings, almost paralyzing paranoia and antisocial behavior was perimenopause, it was really almost too late. I have such a deep sense of calm, even through all of the upheavals of the past year. I guess that is one of the blessings of menopause: a new lease on life. A feeling of calm and serenity if that is the path one chooses to take, not bitter regreds, but looking back on a life of living, being around a loving family, having friends.

I love all of you my farmgirl sisters.

Need to run the girls to twirling practice now! I'll be on later tonight. Will be doing some sewing. Took a nap today.

Bonne....ooooooh ok..interesting info on smudging...I didnt know what it was...to me a smudge is a dirty mark on something..."the wall is all smudged up, wipe it down" "you have a dirt smudged on your face"...haha...didnt know it was also a Native American religious thing...my ancestors probably did it at some point in their lifetime(great-great-grandfather on dad's father's side was Native American, not sure what tribe though, not much besides pictures and some verbal history...)...
btw love the aprons

Hey Georgann,

My own life was in such a mess when the peri- period started then the major life transition took place... all the symptoms of full blown menopause just blended in with the mass chaos of the period in general!

Then when my whirlwind period settled down It was clear to see what was what...I too have gone through hormone free. I just recently started using the Soy Isoflavones but I keep forgetting to take them What's your evaluation of the Soy?

Now that I finally did something about my insomnia and am getting some deep sleep I am seeing my energy levels getting better with each day! It's wonderful..I was really at my wits end with the fatigue.

Enjoy your sewing time later today!

Stephanie

Ok, here is my two cents on Menopause. I think I am almost through it. During the time when the hot flashes were most intense, I tried the soy....never really felt like it did much for me. Sleep disturbance was the killer and I have corrected that with Melatonin....I know that Georgann had problems taking Melatonin. It doesn't seem to work for everyone. As far as hormones....I plan to go without. I guess my feeling is that I would rather approach these things as naturally as possible. I think that the cardiac protection that estrogen gives is a benefit, but to me not worth the cancer risks....so...cold turkey for me.
I am at the point where the mood swings are over....calm is the operating word for most days...and that is such a great benefit of all of this! I guess I would rather not see menopause as a big deal, but rather the end of the difficult part of womanhood.....and goodbye Tampax forever!!

Jess....that apron is the best yet...I love the prints!

Hey gals, ck the barter thread.
http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13593

Emily has a plethora of Vogue patterns up for barter and
lots of possibilities for trading. Most of them are out of print
patterns that would be difficult (and expensive) to find. You
can go to http://www.voguepatterns.com/list/whats_new/page-1 and enter in the # to see what the pattern looks like.
I thought someone would be jumping all over this by now.

Love the '56 aprons! The strawberry is great and a nice big pocket. I have to have extra big pockets....don't know why but I do.
Is that a doll appliqued on one? Perhaps a Sunbonnet Sue?

Bonne...great info on smudging. I've had some white sage for a while, just didn't know how to go about it. I have a sweet grass braid that I've tried to get to burn, not much luck but it smells absolutely wonderful.

All of you make such beautiful things and are so very talented. Great jobs!

Blessings....

Yeah, I'm not taking hormones. What's up with it anyway? We're supposed to have a hormonal change, why are we screwing around with it. Technically, menopause is when you have been period free for 1 year. I've yet to get to that point, as I still have periods sporadically. Can't wait 'til it's all done though~no hot flashes to speak of~but I agree, the perimenopause is the tough time~mostly in your 40's and you don't know what the heck is going on~night sweats, tossing around, then tired in the am, achy joints, wanting to murder someone, short fuse in general. AHhhh...ain't it grand.......... Yes, thanks for your wonderful friendships Farmgals!!!

Hormones.......for me too Bev, I really hope I didn't make the wrong choice about not using them, I too weighed the risk of cardiac vs. cancer, and decided to not do the hormones since there is far more cancer than cardiac problems in my family.

The girls LOVED twirling lesson tonight! The youngest one seems to have a natural ability for it too!!

Oh, crap! Jessica, I didn't know you got migraines too. So sorry about that~I'll send you some nice healing energy. Forget about having more kids! We're all thrilled that it's all over about that part of our life, and now it's on to the grandchildren phase~WHOOO HOOO!!! There's always plenty of kids to go around! LOL Go ahead and sew up the hippy dippy trippy fabric~whaddaya waiting for?

Elizabeth is making soap and probably staying away from here so she won't be tempted to sew instead of soap!

Hormones needed for me....my hot flashes were so miserable that after a long time of trying to live with them I got on hormones...small dose stopped them
Then I had blood pressure spikes...very high...and Dr. took me off hormones until I insisted after miserable hot flashes and loss of sleep for weeks, a couple of months or more.
She said she has plenty of patients who take them for the quality of life they get....the hot flashes and tiredness from lack of sleep. Even some women in their 70s have to take the hormones or hot flashes are unbearable. That's just me....when I went in to her for the extreme tiredness she said that women have hot flashes during sleep and don't really wake up but it brings us up out of deep sleep enough to keep us from getting rest. REM sleep...made sense to me so back on estrodol and all is fine again for me....just my story.

Smudge ceremonies! I lived in Alaska for 8 years and participated in many smudge ceremonies...the sweet sage grows natural there and is dried and tied into small bundles. It is a spiritual experience and my Native friends taught me to respect their customs...with a loving calm attitude....wonderful experience. Most of the Natives I knew were from the Inuit tribe....what used to be called "Eskimo"...there is not an "Eskimo" tribe now.
Women are respected and powerful there also!
It has been a few years but thanks for reminding me of wonderful times. :-)
