Bev,
Just sent you an email...
Glad you are back...uhhh...what's this about someone upsetting you about an apron?? I didn't see your little apron but look here...As we all know for sure "There's really nothing new under the sun!" I want to know what was said to you, OK?
What makes it yours is "Your Expression". The concept of the Apron itself CANNOT be copyrighted BUT your expression (design) can be.
The basic laws have been written to protect the designers from loosing control of their designs to super large producers and manufacturers. Any individual or cottage industry business that is producing different designs for profit are actually further promoting the original disigner weather they credit that designer or not. The designer's love that....They don't love it and have to stop it when a major producer tries to mass produce without purchasing a LICENSE to do so.
As for (not) using Licensed fabrics in finished products for resale...yes, technically that is the truth BUT there again this law is created to protect their fabrics from being used by HUGE manufacturers that mass produce and not buy a LICENSE to do so...This is a way that the designer protects their designs from being misused. The bottom line is that they'd let anyone use those fabrics if they liked the producer and the producer paid them a "Licensing Fee" to produce in large quantites.
These laws are very open ended when you do the research. Nothing is set in concrete! But there are some people that can't see the forest for the trees. LOL They don't even consider other possibilities.
Whoever has said something to you better rethink whatever it was since they don't know you, what deal you may or may not have made with a pattern company, etc...They are the ones that don't have their facts straight and that's all you need to remember
So don't let these kind of folks upset you....That was their intention and they are glad of any disconfort they may have caused you. Don't allow that, Bev! They are the one's that are wrong, not you.
Ok, off my soapbox
Talk to ya soon, Stephanie

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for the sweet comments about my apron..I have all the spiders sewn on..just have the moon and bat left to do..then I started thinking that the waistband (since it's also the spiderweb) should have spiders sewn onto it too!!!!

Stephanie, Thanks for the info on the patterns. And like you said, they don't know what agreements have been made.
And if a person buys a pattern, aren't they buying the right to make as many items out of that pattern as they so want to. Doesn't the purchase of a pattern constitute an agreement to the rights of use of a pattern?
I just don't know, and I wonder do they have a pattern patrol at ETSY?
Bev, your creations are lovely, and they are you!!!
Are we now to start weaving and dyeing and printing all of our fabrics that we wear out in public for fear of copyright infringement? (being sarcastic here!)
Well, gotta run. My camera is repaired (hubby is the repairman!! So later tonight I'll be posting photos!!
Hugs all,
Oh, I bought my chocolate/cherry swirl fabric today!!!

Hey Georgann,
Simply put...it is up to the Pattern company to define who is abusing or not abusing a production policy. The very idea of an individual attacking another person's business practices is a total lack of "good graces".
Every pattern company or designer has limits on production for profit. Most small designer companys offer an "Angel Policy" which allows a certain number of finished goods to be sold for profit per year without purchasing a "License" to sell larger quantities.
The large pattern companies usually leave it as "for personal use only", meaning not intended for "production for profit". BUT they normally do that to protect their patterns from being used by super large manufacturers to "mass produce" huge amounts....
So really all the individuals that are using patterns to make a few here and there to sell during a year don't have to stress out or be paranoid. These companies just want the BIG guys on the block to not abuse their policies.
Hey Lisa,
Glad to see you out these parts of the woods Did you finish your purse? Wanna see, Wanna see!!
Talk to ya later, Stephanie

Bonnie, I really like peaches. We used to have a peach tree next door to us while I was a teenager. My grandma used to make a lot of peach cobbler. I made plum jam this summer from my neighbor's donated plums. Now, peach jam sounds good too! The funny thing is that I made some to send to my mil and sil in Arizona. My mil can't eat the skins, so I had to take the skins off. Since the plums are light in color, my sil thought that I made peach or apricot jam.

Love peaches too!! Lots of juicy work. Thanks Stephanie.....learn something everyday. I thought it was kind of yucky for Etsy to email Bev about that!! Jess......get some rest dear....you have earned it!!
Bonne, you look so pretty in that apron that Nay made for you!! Nay that apron is soooo pretty!!!
Well here are some promised photos. Got the camera working again!!
The first one:
These are some of the wonderful goodies Nay made and sent to me from her website drawing!! The little denim purse is adorable. Nay you do wonderful work. My daughters were grabbing at everything, I had to be a bit faster and scoop my treasures out of their reaches!! Here is another photo:
That is a handmade card that has lots of detailing on it!!
This next photo is the wonderful goodies sent by Grace (katmom) in a swap with her.......Don't worry, your package should get there soon!!!

I love the Halloween fabric and all of the little bits!!! Do I hear apron????!!!!!!
You were both so kind and way too generous!! Thank you so much!!
Here is the chocolate, cherry, leopard fabric I have been drooling over at work. I am going to make a swirly black skirt with godets of this fabric as inserts! Then I'll wear it with a black T and wear a french scarf made from the same fabric in my hair!!! Meow....or rather Roar!!! Maybe I'm just crazy, but does anyone else like this fabric?

Oh, and Lisa, I wore my other Lisa original to work today and got lots of compliments on it!!
I have been alternating between Lisa's and Bev's necklaces with my work clothes and I tell ya, the customers LOVE all of my gorgeous farmgirl made necklaces!! I am so proud to be able to tell those who ask that I have some Fabulous Beading Goddesses for friends!!! G

OK. I just got back from the renfaire.... Fun fun fun and tired. I have lots of pictures to post.
Jess, OMG I got you package.... I am just floored! I love it and it is so perfect and cute! I will post pictures. Cuz... ya gotta see this. Yes to the inner faith fabric... 3 yrds would be great. Approx how much is it and I will shoot you off a check ASAP. Happy Fabric Dance!
Bev, I wouldnt worry about it, until you get a seize and desist letter from the actual pattern company. I do think that if you changed the ties in any way it becomes your design, I would read the pattern.... I have it someplace, and I dont ever remember reading "those rules". Seamstresses have been doing it for years and years. I think it is some one who is trying to F*ç#1046; with you. Sorry you have to deal with it. I think that your aprons are too good that is why some one is trying to eliminate the competition. If you do get a letter, they will just tell you that you have So many hours to pull it off. They are not going to do anything if you say, OK I didnt know, Sorry it is gone. It would cost them too much to do anything else.
I love coming home to lots to read. But I am posting the pics here. I also should try to finish the silk dress I have started, and make myself another linen one this week too.

Peanut has declared that he want to be a knight
So the girlfriend of one of the knights took him to meet the knights in the and he was so star struck. I got him a knight figure, and he helt it all day making it trot around the booth, jousting various things.

Georgann,
Love the fabric and I can see that skirt, shirt and scarf..I love Godets!! You have to post a picture of you in this outfit.
I wish I were tall and slim. I love the "Mortisia" (sp??) skirts..The "V" shape skirt with the Flounce..Used to keep a picture of one hanging in my office area.
E-,
My exact thoughts as I've relayed to Bev. I told her that "Vampires are lurking", keep the spear ready to extinguish them at once...LOL Glad you had a good show and want to see pictures!
