I am only caught up to page 137 of this thread so far. I just keep trying to read a litle do a little. I catch a few minutes between hanging out laundry and folding, putting more in. I think there are only a couple more loads today and then I can catch up and maybe squeeze in a project today. Need to get sewing some of my fall stuff.
Katie-ell, that is really pretty fabric.
I have some vintage fabric my mil found in a trunk at my husbands great grandmother's house and I can't decide what to use it for. There is quite a bit of it. It is a white background with brown and blue and pink prints of kitchen items on it. I know it would be good for an apron but there is so much of it. Any ideas anyone?

Well, Denise! If you have LOTS of it, why not make a couple of aprons and then BARTER with the rest of it?? I know there are several Farmgirls who are drooooling over the very idea of vintage kitchen-print fabric!!

I am dealing with my mother today and she is just impossible! The more I try to be civil the worse it becomes...I am so on edge I am about to die! Apparently I am checking my email too often, and this weird swap and barter stuff I am doing is not worthwhile ..if it is not a business where there is actual currency exchanged...blah blah blah...and why am i calling these people my friends and now i am talking about going to visit them...I am about to lose my mind!!!!!! Sorry...not trying to sound like a total freak...just venting!!! |

Well, look at it this way, Jess, you are not alone.....we all do the same thing. It feels good to be connected with people who support us and care about us....it's a basic human need. Tell her that by acting that way she is certainly not fulfilling anyone's needs...but creating more!! Besides, who cares how you "meet" a friend?

Well.... Denise, Post pictures! Sight unseen, how much would you like for a yard of it?
I did a little more fabric shopping today. I needed some therapy after this weekend. So i picked up 3 yrd each of this cute pumpkin fabric and 3 yrds of the campanion fabric. So I can make bias tape, but probably not. But I was thinking of a Autumn Harvest Apron Swap. If not, I just might make them up anyways :P
I also got a bunch of trim fabrics. Plus a mag that cost $3 from Joanns. The mag is stupid and just shows a bunch of stuff you can make with different patterns.... but the back page has a bunch of 50% off coupons. One trim, notion, fabric, print fabric and solid fabric... and a dress form. they are good until Dec 2, so it will be nice if I need something and dont need to wait for it to go on sale. I have been thinking that I need a dress form... one that can expand to the size of a drop cookie... and crank down while I lose Henry's baby weight. I have to lose it because I refuse to buy more fat clothes...
Bev, I think you need a RenFaire Dress. Check out that site.... pick out a country of origin and I will help you. That girl also has a bunch of links to other dress diaries too.
Georgann, No I havent gotten a package, but maybe today since it was the holiday it may be late.

Oh, and Denise -- I'd love to barter with you, too, for some of the vintage fabric, if you go down that primrose path. . .

Sounds like today was a fabric shopping day for women named Elizabeth...lol
I stopped by my favorite fabric shop that I don't get to go to all that often, it's up near my parent's home so I only go when I'm up there visiting, and they happened to have some Moda and a few others 60% off and I just couldn't resist! I am thinking I'll have to stop by there again on my way back down to my home when I leave from up here.

My machine is all better, but now I have to make room so I can sew. Remember, that I said that dh was cleaning the garage. Well....he brought in some of my boxes with fabric contents for me to go through. It seems that anywhere there is a horizontal surface that is cleared, it soon, it won't be like that for long. I am happy that my dh has discarded a lot of his things. He has more than I do.

It is hard not to worry about mothers. I have internet friends that I have had over 10 yrs. We visit each other, they have been there for me during the birth of my 2 children, and while Peanut was in the hospital.... and are truely interested in what is going on with me and seeing pictures of my children. I have seen them through divorces, alchocolic spouses and watched their children grow up and leave for college.. Bev said it... who cares where you meet.

Hey there,
Thanks for the compliments on the Barkcloth purse. All of my barkcloth collection is Vintage..Have picked it up through the years from different Ebay dealers that are up north.
All of you that live up that way have a motherlode resource for the Vintage goods!!! NO kidding..wish I lived there because I live to own more vintage barkcloth Your thrift stores should have it....deeper in the south it gets scarce...I think the humidity that we have down here had led most of what was used to dry rot and fall apart.
There are many websites that sell Reproduction Barkcloth designs from about $9 to $20 per yard..have never used any of it but it is pretty. This 50's piece I used in the purse is the nubby medium weight barkcloth and was cut from a curtain panel.
The attraction to the vintage is that you get to feel all the different woven textures that were used. I have mostly nubby weave, a few diamond weave and a piece "to die for" Glencourt Barkcloth...I'll post a picture of that one too
Buying the curtain panels can be a less expensive way to buy it but not always..just depends on the design. This vintage barkcloth that I just showed you would resale at $25 yard. That is a general price..it can be found for less and for more.
I'll post another piece of 50's barkcloth that will knock your socks off if you like the "pencil drawing" style designs. It sells for $50 dollars a yard and have sold all that I plan to...I feel another collage apron is going to come out of this one..I'll post it tonight.
Vintage is my thing and I love collecting it...going on 10 years now...Y'all are going on about how much fabric you have..well, I've got to take pictures of mine so you can see what a Vintage Fabric HO I really am...LOL
Gotta read more about this RenF outfits y'all are talking about...I think I need to go read Georgann's blog about a Halloween party??
Georgann, Love the creation of the morning!!! I want to see a closeup of the fabric that you used..
Ok, off to the Chiropractor and Library.
See ya, Stephanie

Oops, forgot...someone asked if I used an Amy Butler pattern for the purse. I sure did! Only I enlarged the pattern by about 40%. It turned out super wide and about half as deep..It is totally retro and funky. I love the boxed corners. They reminded me of the "cats eye" glasses the way it angled out.
Ok, gone now!

| Hello Denise. Your vintage kitchen fabric sounds wonderful! Put me on the list for barter if you have room. I'd love to make an apron with it or trade for one. I'll keep my fingers crossed! Tracy |
