Am I supposed to reveal all my sourdough secrets? Oh, okay. I put about 1/2 cup in a quart freezer ziploc, squish out the air, use boxes that checks are mailed in (cept most are flimsy paper now) or the DVD size mailers, with bubble wrap. Have had only one not arrive okay and that was to a gal in Arizona when she didn't pick up from her outside mailbox for a week and it burst the ziploc. She knew it was coming, too. Most who share or sell send about a tsp or tblsp and I like the person to have enough to be able to use it after one or two feedings. If it's fed when rec'd, it will start bubbling in an hour or two at most.
When I'm not using it, it sits nicely in the fridge till I'm ready to bake with it again. This one is about 12 years old and I started it. Like to think the NV basque wild yeast helped, but probably just in my head.

Sheryl-lyn, ouch for your hubby. Black ice is the worst, cause it takes you by surprise. Hope he heals up quickly. My MIL fell on ice and broke her leg about 15 years ago, thankfully she had strong bones that healed but it sure kept her down for awhile. She was very aggravated that she'd fallen.

Thanks Ronna: He is fine except for the aching that comes the day after. He thinks it's cool that your husband is an ice-road trucker! Larry probably thinks it's no big deal, but to the rest of us, it is so cool.

I know a bunch of you quilt, right?

What kind of batting do you use?
I got a little overwhelmed today at the fabric store. Ended up with a cotton batting - I'm just making a cute blanket for the 5yo - with the thought that cotton will wash up fairly decent. Because we have to wash pretty much everything here at some point or another.

I was very much drooling over the very silky soft bamboo batting, but just couldn't justify the price.

And now after seeing those owl hats, I may need to get some for my little kiddos - too cute!

(And in case anybody's wondering, those aprons I made for the kids have been in use as recently as yesterday when we were making noodles for chicken noodle soup.)

Hi Lanna: I use a thin flannel-like batting from Warm and Natural most of the time. I use cotton batting on the roll sometimes too. Depends what I have on hand or what it will be used for.

Sherly-lyn, he's not an ice road trucker...he's an electrical administrator at the head of the pipeline in Prudhoe Bay. According to him, that's a big title for being a babysitter to 100 electricians. He's been up there over 20 years, not sure just how long now.

Ronna, that's too funny about the starter exploding in the mailbox..what a mess! That's impressive that you have kept a starter going for 12 years.

-----

The chiropractor sells the best roll on stuff for muscle aches..Sheryl, you need some to keep on hand when the slip on the ice happens..I'll look at the name of it and post it. It's not messy and the smell disappears quickly and almost instant relief.

-----

Hey Lanna, I was petting the bamboo batting the last time I wan in Hancock's...it's very nice.

-----

The forcast at our cabin tonight is 3 to 6 inches of snow....wwaaaaahhhhh..I wish I were there!!! I know how beautiful it will be.

-----

Jess, gotta go check your blog for pics.
