Bonne, I think at Vogue fabrics online you can get swatches for a pretty fair price! The only saving grace to Walmart closing the fabric was that my friend Joni who worked at Walmart opened her own fabric store. We do have one other small one, but they don't have very regular hours!
Yipee Jessica!!!!!!!!!
Carol Sue, The nap never happened! The girls took naps and I got busy! I thought I could sneak a short one on the couch, but Isaiah and Hannah started playing and getting silly and it got too late! Oh well!!! I have been trying to look at things differently when the kids get a bit noisy! For some reason lately I keep thinking that I am blessed that my children are healthy and there are probably parents some where that would give their right arm to see their kids laugh and get a bit silly! I don't let them get out of hand, but I think I am appreciating them more!

Hey- I have been hitting it all day- sunny and warm so we sat out by the pond today after lunch with the kids. Then Bible study(we're hosting a marriage bible study right now) and then to the sewing machine. Bonne-I whipped up a dress-I should be happy but as I worked on it I kept crying. It was soooo big- I mean it just kept hitting me how big it was. Pitiful, huh???? Anyway I passed MAD right up and got sad so what do I do?????? I go eat a big fat cookie and cry!!!!! ANYWAY- the dress turned out nice. Very good pattern. Bonne- I forgot to thank you for the patterns you sent. I will have to get myself together to try them The Laura Ashley one we agreed was a good cut it a very simple good pattern. Tks for sharing your smarts with me!!!
Guess I better go get another cookie-

Ok Autumn, when we are 19 and weigh 96 pounds, it is okay. We need that and we get our man. Then we have lots of babies....and our body does all kinds of fun tricks. Now, after several babies and a few years...age 19 does not come back. just reality. You look oh so fab and I can only hope I can be as cool as you when I am staring 50 in the face. Heaven knows it does not look so good for my mom. And the dress cannot be that big, she did not start out with very much fabric!!!

Oh no- not the dress Bonne did- I started another one. Actually it has a continuous seam around the shoulders that is gathered in elastic to form a peasant like look. SOOOO-it's really big before the elastic-but also to keep it from clinging too much I cut the skirt part a bit loose. Also the fabric was kinda gauzy with a stretch-to top it off it's tye dyed!!!! I used some vintage(70's) trim on it. Picture coming tomorrow- I'm far too emotional to model it tonight!!! Delayed reaction to loss of my friend and stress of another in life threatening illness. I should learn that I always react AFTERward by eating and falling apart when I am alone long enough to think. Sooo I shall stop thinking and start sewing!!!!! I'll take pics of all the stuff I sewed this weekend tomorrow.
Tks Jess for encouraging word-you are right- life and the passage of lots of things-including mental-pause changes our bodies!!! I should be so thankful to be healthy!! I jog a mile 1/2 at least 4 days a week!!! Got a good ticker!!!

Jess, I can only hope that hubs was in Mexico making a bunch of $$$$. So sorry about the condo too...when it rains it pours, it seems. I know you are over this up to your eyeballs!
Linda, congrats on 2000 posts!
Sweet Autumn, been there, done this! It seems we all reach a time when it "hits us like a major train wreck" that we probably will never be the small size we once were..it's imprinted on us and it's familiar and dammit we want it back, right now! Just remember, you are beautiful inside and out. I know it's hard but we must love ourselves, ya know! I've always said, "I'm much better at serving others, then serving myself." And that's a very bad habit to develop. I've just started in the past few years to undo that habit so I'll take better care of myself.
I think for me, the pain I'm living with and how it's limiting the otherwise fast pace I've always kept... has played on me mentally more than anything else. And of all areas..for it to be my feet...It has become overwhelming. Bev has told me I can bite the bullet and go have the injections put into my feet to relieve the pain for a time. I'm almost there...now if that doesn't say how much pain there is, nothing does...the thought of the injection gives me the creeps and makes me want to scream. But I'm working up my courage and gonna make an appointment. Yes, Bev, I can do this!

(((((Autumn))))) It's the inside that counts and you are a beautiful women so you put a few pounds on. My dear it sounds to me more like depression and all you have been going through it makes sense and this all does happen at 50 just different things happen to different girls (the evil change of our bodies) Do what you think is best but I think a dotor appointment cause it really sounds like depression. I hope you don't mind me posting this. I wouldn't if I didn't care((((hugs))) Carrie |

That's a good point about taking care of ourselves at this point in our lives. With children gone or just about out of the house; where your focus has been for the last 20+ years, you sometimes don't know how to shift the attention to that which needs it most now....YOU. Kids are grown and don't NEED their mommys like the old days. Especially now when women pass though an important rite of passage/change. The horrible crime about it is the joking and shame that is put upon menopause, when in fact it is a badge of wisdom to be flaunted. Our stupid society is so #$%#-ed up. Long overdue time to get in touch with your goddess that has been ignored by a patriarchal society and regain our power.

Somehow my life has been sprinkled with lots of untimely deaths-I usually handle it well- but age does make a difference . Lost 3 brothers before any of them were 30 -well one was over 30 -he was 35. I quit counting years and dates- made me sad all the time!!! Anyway I am the only one left - so you see my friends(including ALL of you) are vital to my life. Carrie- no- I dont mind you posting about depression- it's surely a factor- but usually passes pretty easily for me. My hubby is bi-polar II depressive, and has been for 35 yrs. He is on good meds so it has little effect on him these days-but oh the days gone by!!!! Did I learn about depression???????
I happen to be blessed with little or no problem with it-however I did suffer a time after our house burned ON MY DUE DATE, for our third baby. About a year later when we got settled again it hit me. I took meds for 6 mos and it was gone. Also after hurricane Rita-we were all so exhauseted that it did sneak up on me again -same thing- meds for 6 mos and it was gone. I will be keeping an eye on this so I dont let it go too far- but right now I think it's appropriate to the circumstances. Ya'll are pure gold!!! CArol Sue- I have thought about you all day- I hope things are settled again, friend!!!

Hey Bonne! I was wondering where you were!!!
Yeah- really the roles we have as women are twisted- society tells us were no good unless....we're thin, smart, make lots of money and have a portfolio....
I had determined to age gracefully rather than as a whining neurotic ninny but it is far more challenging than I had imagined!

one step at a time, one day at a time...you'll be fine Autumn. Way too many losses so close together for you, how can it not affect you to some extent. Being able to talk about it is a big help and you know you have numerous shoulders to lean on. |

Well, Jess~I hope hubby is now at home and taking care of all those things you've had to deal with. I hope these pipes are fixed soon and you get some much needed relief. If I lived closer, I would drive right over with a big pot of soup, some salad and bread, maybe even an apple crisp. Then I would play with all your kiddos while you took a nice relaxing, long bath. Once you were done, I would wash, dry and put away all your dishes. For the grand finale, I would take all your laundry to the laundromat, wash, dry, fold it and bring it all back home. I wish I could do all that for you. Sending prayers and good wishes your way.
Autumn~You are a beautiful woman. I have seen your pictures on your blog. So pretty!! I am sending you ((((hugs)))) and prayers. You have had so much happening around you lately. Take some time to rest and to fill your heart with blessings. It is difficult when you are surrounded by so many sad things happening. Praying for you. God is with you.
We had another 5 inches of snow overnight. I had an appt. for a cleaning today. I really didn't want to leave the house but had to. It is supposed to be a bit warmer here today and the sun is shining. They say there will be more snow today. We'll see what happens.

I have been in Pennsylvania for the weekend, so am trying to catch up with you all. We had snow again last night and it sure looks nice. Finally cleaning the fridge today (what a totally gross job--at least at my house:) so will keep taking breaks while doing that and cleaning the pantry.
Autumn: You have been through so much. Sad times are a part of the healing of your mind and heart. Depression is also normal and in your case seems to pass. See your doctor if you don't feel better soon though. Your plate is full and a little relief would be a blessing.

Ruth, did you get my check? My mailbox door flew open when it was snowing last week (it snows every week so far!!) and it got covered with snow and ice one day and then we put it back after we dried it off. Hope it made it to you before the weekend came!
