Let's see. It got up to 74 yesterday~actual recorded temp was 71 at the airport, but who cares about the airport that's way out East. Today supposed to be upper 60's. Then the crushing blow of January returns on Friday, so Zeb's going to whoop it up outside a bit today. I may try some baking with him over the weekend~I'm debating what to try first~might just be a quick bread or pancakes.

Well rugs look good and no nope no static I been using borax and soda forver cause it brightens and deoderizes and helps with grease. I tried this to try to save cash but I do not think I will save that much but I had fun Wouldn't there still be chemicals in those products though anyway I mean isn't that what makes them work? Being far away from store it would for sure be a life saver.

Lucky Zeb sunshine I haven't seen it all week I think snow is coming here.
Shirley has a bubbly personality that is so nice

I think borax and washing soda are supposed to be natural~I don't know if that means no chemicals. I find the laundry detergent recipe I use does save money. In the beginning it's costly to buy all the ingredients but I make about 4 or 5 batches before I have to buy it again.

Carrie~I believe the tennis ball thing. I know what you mean about other threads sometimes.

I was on another thread the other day and a little was talking about how hard it is to find a job and that she had a tough time and was finding only jobs that pay next to nothing and require long hours, etc. I could understand her frustration but then someone replies that she should be thankful for whatever job she gets offered. It seemed a little cold to me. The lady then sends me an email explaining that she wasn't complaining just having a hard time finding a good paying job. I felt bad for her. I could totally understand where she was coming from in the first place and don't know why the other person was snippy. It was sad really.

Sorry for the long story.

Bonne~I will have to give those dollar store tennis balls a try. My dog can't play with them. I bought them for her once and she tore it in two in just a couple of hours.

Jess~I would really like to be more self sustaining. I'm still working on hubby to want to be.

Bonne~I read somewhere that you can get lye at the hardware store~I believe in the pool section. It's just under another name. I read it online. I will see if I can find it again.

Gals, Dh is not a self-sustaining type of person. Too bad.

OK~I'm not the only one who didn't get that.

I know Alee posted MJ's article on soapmaking on another thread. Maybe that's what it's about? Not sure.

Some Ace Hardwares carry it~depends on location
Roebic drain cleaner is 100% lye ~that's at Lowe's but not all
If they've had issues with meth lab buyers they won't have it
Ruth, you've got a big heart~lots of others here, myself included, have
a more cynical view of things, but that's just personal~the differences in people is what makes the world go 'round.;)

What type of wood are you burning Carrie?
I have to buy this powdery stuff to sprinkle on my fire once or
twice a week and it helps the sticky creosote from building up~turns
it powdery. We've got mostly pine to burn and it creates a lot of buildup fast.
If you're getting a lot of soot inside, sounds like you need a good cleaning of your
outside pipes. Find an attractive chimney sweep and invite him inside for tea.

As the norm lately, very chatty here and I love it.
I use the knobby blue dryer balls "as seen on TV" that Walmart and lots others have now. Only time I put in a dryer sheet is with really clingy knits that need the static slowed to a crawl. Have had them at least two years without a problem. Really help with towels, down comforters and rugs

Bonne~Thank you~I know we're all different and that's great. It would sure be boring if we were all the same. I guess I'm just a bit of a softie and sometimes I read too much into things. Hubby keeps saying to me~stop thinking everyone is nice because not everyone is nice and sometimes people just stink~ I guess I'm a sucker, he balances me out.

Just got back from the dentist. I had to have a filling done and the kids needed cleanings. By the time he's done with all of us he'll be debt free. We're always there. Ds needed a filling repaired too. The girl made a mistake on the total and of course I had to question it and it was double. YEAH!! Why didn't I just keep my big mouth shut. Oh!well they would have found it anyway.

Carrie~I have white dust around my house all the time. As a matter of fact I was just thinking that I really needed to clean because it's so dusty. I just think it's from using the woodstove. We have our chimney cleaned every fall and use those creosote cleaning logs twice a season and we still have it. We don't burn pine only hardwoods. Not sure why it's so messy. I hate the mess but I love being warm. Before the woodstove my house was always cold.

Yes, I think it was the cream cheese frosting. LOL
You hardwood burners get fluff after your burns. Everytime you open the stove door, a bit will wisp out~I've noticed more dust since we've started woodburning too. I can live with dustiness when it means lower utility bills, AND finally we have warm floors ~my hubs doesn't have a stuffed up nose because of it.
Although, today is so sunny and warm, don't need any heat. Saw 2 bees trying to get a sip from hubs's Dr. Pepper can and the Johnny Jump-ups are blooming in the Kitty Korral. It's all just a tease though.
