Karin, what a scream! :0) I would love to have been with the two of you in the salvage joint. I have a good visual going on those shoes with many buckles and metallic jeans...yes, hookerware for sure..LOL or Rosannadana...yeah, she would have shown off a get up like that.
Hope the peas are doing their job on the injuries of the day and that you are cozy in bed reading or sewing.
----- Carol Sue, so glad I'm providing late night entertainment..hahahaha :0)
----- Autumn, a combo of pictures and reading does it for me...gotta have a visual experience to keep my attention.

Aha, another adventure for Karin and Zan. Glad you got the machine...it's never to late to have a happy childhood and your mother cheated you out of learning to sew on that treadle. Do you ever get to cook and eat the frozen peas or are they only for your shoulders? :) Well, my anticipated two weeks off next month fizzled. Guess the company did better than they thought, cause my manager got the payroll money off and no one needs to take time off. I'm still determined to get my sewing room cleaned up so I can do the mini's and everything else on the long sewing/quilting list. Been raining here for two days and expected to continue until first of the week. We do need the moisture and it's just light rain, so I can't gripe too much. Unless it decides to be icy on Monday when Larry goes back to Alaska. I have several of those vintage sewing books too. Some of the info is still the same, but looking at the photos can be funny. yeah, no one is surprised that I have them also... Soaked chicken breasts in seasoned buttermilk overnight, floured and fried them for dinner along with mashed spuds and gravy. Once in awhile, I'll be running late and will bring home chicken from the grocery store...they must use banty's or game hens, these were at least twice as big as those they charge something like $2 each. 5 of them for $7+ and two left over for his lunch Monday before he leaves. yes, they were on sale...against my principals to pay full price for anything in case you didn't know.

| The head wipes for bald men came out a couple years back, along with some other toiletries for those without hair. And little razor that fit over two fingers to shave the head too. Guess they didn't sell too well and are now at salvage. |

Carol Sue, I should be able to fix you up with a vintage sewing book, hopefully soon too. I won't hold up Teresa's silverplate, but maybe can find one to go in that box. Do any of you have ideas of what to make/do with beaded and or sequined dresses? I have a bunch of them, all sizes. Some still with tags, others needing a bit of repair. Jess and I were talking about it awhile back. Even for someone that does beading, taking them off the dresses that are damaged and reusing them would work. Nope, not me.

CS , click on the Ebay link in my previous post. You'll find several books there well under 5 bucks. Funny thing is I had a few of them at the time they were printed~wonder where they are now? Probably on Ebay! lol

I'm so happy both Jess and Bonne are loving the sourdough bread using the starter I sent. I think sourdough is something that people either love or hate, kinda like licorice and others. This starter loves being shared and I love doing it.

Steph, you mentioned the David Austin roses a few pages back. Love the, they smell so wonderful and the roses are so pretty. Have a couple along the front porch, rest of my roses are clearance/look like they're dead bargains. Have about 20 of the mini ones in 2" pots that are about 4 ft tall and wide and bloom like crazy every year. most were 25 cents each. when you go to the DavidAustinroses.com website, if you'll enter MS4, supposed to get a special offer. From Martha Stewart Living ad. I've not checked it out yet, don't have room in the front yard for more roses. |

Oh to play with some of those beads on those dreeses, hmmm was thinking of coarse of flapper doo dahhh this July. Hmmmm, could use some of them and make the really cool ornaments that Karin sent me. They are beaded hearts with embrodiery for ornaments. I think tey are beautiful. Hmmmm repurposing, wonder if you coudl take the seems apart, figure where the beading started and stoped and make a couple or two or three purses out of them, yes, can you tell seeing this in my head and going, now that would be fun.
Will have to look up the David Autsin roses, thanks for reminding me Ronna

Hey Ronna, what color sequins and beads are on the dresses?....gather up a pile of them and let me know the colors...if you'd cut them down the side seams you can fill a box for Carol Sue and throw the other half of the dresses in a box for me. Or how ever the beaded areas falls...just cut that section in half so we can share it...Let me know how much the shipping is to me and to Carol Sue and I'll send you the money. We will be a charity case for those sparkly jewels.

Bonne, I've got a "Leo" embroidery design uploaded. Can't remember if you hand embroider..but it would be cool just as a printout.

ETA: This is long since I'm catching up on 30 pages of chat, sorry in advance.
Ruth ~ How does your homemade detergent do with hard water? I've been intrigued by making my own detergent, but we have crazy hard water and I still have two in cloth diapers (which are picky about detergent).
Carol Sue ~ Yay, pretty snow! I wish the berms had shrunk a little more, but at least now I think most folks got their roofs taken care of by now...
Sourdough starter named Zeb... love it.
Ronna ~ Yeah, you can stipulate stuff in your will. Otherwise a seemingly evil DIL like my aunt (when my grandma died) will get into the house and start shoving everything into her van before anybody notices because they're *gasp* mourning and planning the memorial service.
Theresa ~ Use your crockpot next time for spaghetti sauce. If you need it to boil down, just put a chopstick under the lid so you get some ventilation, but fewer splatters. And no burning. That's how I cooked down my tomato sauce this year before canning it.
Steph ~ Yeah, you'll be able to move in and put everything exactly where you want it, and not take anything with you that you don't love. We moved into our house with a 1mo and kept having the kids. My basement still has boxes I desperately need to clean out.
Oooh, homemade brownies... I forsee fun chocolatey-ness for me and the kids tomorrow. Hubby's only been getting one day off a week lately, sorta.
Secret family recipes... both my grandmothers died without sharing their secret recipes. A few weeks after one grandma died, my mom found the recipe for her cookies that helped the WSU Cougars win the (98?) Rose Bowl (one lone piece of paper buried way back in a cupboard) and then she found the other grandma's relish recipe 2 years after that one died (I grew up on that relish - anything store bought tastes awful compared to it). I now have both of them, and you bet I'm going to guard them until I like my kiddo's SO's.
Mmm, cinnamon rolls. I have some in my freezer I need to use up. Yum. I use Alton Brown's overnight cinnamon roll recipe - and just froze before rising in the oven. Lately we've been making pancakes lately for breakfast, and I've been breaking into my stash of blueberries and forest-picked huckleberries to toss into the pancakes. Add on my homemade strawberry jam, and oh baby. Yum.
Autumn ~ Grapefruit tree?!? Man, color me jealous. I'm only dreaming of possibly getting some dwarf orange and banana trees in a few years when the kids aren't so into digging in the dirt (which is groovy outside, but inside, not so much). Ooh, gonna model those dresses? I want to see how they look! I'd probably do a shortcut with the empire waist on the stripey one and just put a pretty solid blue or green ribbon on there or something. I really should make some dresses/shirts for me - shopping for anything that fits me properly is a nightmare nowadays. Add in the nursing appendages that change in size hourly, and yeah. Makes things interesting, that's for sure.
The peanut recall makes me even happier that we make so much of our stuff. And that the organic peanut butter I've got in the pantry is like 6mo or so since we don't go through a ton of it.
When I get down in the basement and get that scary bedroom down there organized, I have an old curio cabinet with a glass door (and pretty light inside!) I'm going to use for fabric and the like. So I can see it, but not have to dust it. I'm thinking/hoping that'll work.
Is Apronology a book or magazine? I'm getting a little confused...
I know lye has got to be a pain to find around here. The meth thing is bad from what I hear (although my MIL thinks the skaters at the local skate park are a dangerous "gang," but still). I really should talk to the gal I buy my soap from - she's actually just across the state border from MJ's farm. Learning to make soap is on my eventual to-do list...
Carrie ~ Soot from the wood stove? How's that happening? Are you not burning hot enough? Is your chimney/pipe not insulated? Have you been burning more than usual because of the winter and not been able to clean out the chimney? I know hubby's already gone up on the roof with his chimney brush - in the fall before we started burning and then a few weeks ago when he was already on the roof shoveling snow off. When the pipes are clear we don't get hardly any smoking from lack of a draft. We burn mostly white fir as kindling and red fir as logs - hubby goes out and cuts down the trees himself with some buddies - his version of guy's day out.
Bonne ~ Oh heavens, you'd have a heart attack if you saw my place. The whole place is 70's - shag carpeting, super dark "wood" trims, popcorn ceilings, lava rock on the entire wood stove wall and "accenting" on the outside of the house, yeah. Took me seeing the place a few times before I barely got past the cosmetics like hubby did.
Beverly ~ Oooh, you want to come move in with me for a few months? I could most definitely use an extra pair of hands with either the kids or harvest season. I'm willing to share canned goods or can way more if I have enough help. Or just get a wood fired stove off craigslist to use outdoors or something - I keep drooling over those really pretty Monarch stoves of way before my time. I keep telling hubby I wouldn't mind a stove like that outside, especially a pretty one. Maybe one day. Hey, I'm thinking of doing the Buggy, Barter & Boogie, too! I'm not exactly sure what to expect, but I have places to sleep the whole entire way (my place, then my mom's, I like not having ventured too far from home). Is Katmom up on Greenbluff? I've also got relatives in Oakesdale, and that's where my mom used to get her wheat berries (the family farm is a few counties away, but they're not organic ). I do have a pair of Spanx (http://www.spanx.com/home/index.jsp). Comes in handy for the fancy holiday party when you're a few months post-partum.. Work pretty decently.
Ruth ~ Isn't it crazy what the kids do to your body? I expected horizontal stretch marks, which I got in spades with my oldest, but I never saw the horizontal stretch marks from my 9lb11oz (middle) kiddo coming. Was/is a bit trippy, that's for sure.

Ronna, I am intrigued by the thought of dismantling beaded dresses. If you've got lots maybe you could set one aside for me and I would gladly pay for it. Beads. I am a demon.
Feeling quite battered this morning, but I'm drinking coffee and am about to take a fistful of meds. The sun is out and that always helps. The thought of unpacking my van is pretty scary, but I am so excited to have my treadle!
Carol Sue, I went to look for some fat quarters of black and white for you and had such fun, didn't find much b&w, but I found some cuties for you.
Bonne, I know you are trying to get rid of your stash but I found a couple little fat quarters of cowboy fabric I'm sure you can put it to good use! When I can walk upright again I will get them in the mail.
More caffeine...
