I'm with Jess... cowboy caviar? I have a recipe for faux caviar made from eggplant. Yummmmmm! But Cowboy? Do you all remember the '80's saying - Real men don't eat quiche?
Do cowboys eat caviar? Is it like mountain oysters? LOL!!!

What are those really old crazy quilts called that are made from old velvet gowns? Wouldn't those beaded dress pieces look awesome interspersed with other sumptuous fabrics into a crazy quilt? I could see Karin doing something like that...stitching away on her treadle.....with one of her funky hats on.....

ooooooo cowboys....weakness....lol

Sheryl-lyn~so glad you got the hats. Now we need a picture. I am glad you like it.

Karin~your adventure is too funny, metallic jeans and bald head wipes, too funny.

Had to go to work last night, Carol Sue.

I have a sewing book that I really need to get into. I think it's simplicity. I want to sew myself some clothes.

Lanna~You can add baking soda in the wash with the detergent if you have hard water. I do that sometimes. I think our water is a little hard but not so bad.

I need to get to the bookstore this week and look for Apronology. Wow~it's great that it's out already. Can't wait to look through it.

Jess~I don't think I will be able to afford MJ fabric either. I just look at it and sigh.

"detergent picky" ~ she probably means she has someone like Red who gets itchies from certain/many detergents.
I can only use Arm & Hammer powder for my little baby Red's stuff or he gets itchy feet etc.
One of the regular gals on one of my soap forums works for a company that does testing ~ every few years they do laundry detergent testing and she said that Tide came out as the best cleaner overall. Unfortunately, can't use it unless I separate out "the baby's" stuff.

Now I'm trying to recover from my exciting adventure. and clean up the living room and get all my sewing stuff sorted out. I bought a package of labels because if I don't label anything there is chaos. I going to go out to my car and pat my treadle. it has wheels which will be good when I get the boy to haul it in the house...

Jess, I did get a little chicken fabric for you, I figured it might look good in some of your farm blocks. I know you are trying to destash, but it just screamed "Jess!" to me.

I'm seriously tired, didn;;t sleep much last night as some cats decided to use me as a landing spot for middle of the night exercise.I think i may need a nap. My friend david always has a little power nap, like fifteen minutes, unfortunately if I take a nap it might be a couple of hours. i did find some geegaws to put on the mini aprons and I want to get going that today....

Okay, enough incoherent babble, nap time.

Jess, the border you were asking about, was it the one on the sunbonnet quilt? It's more like sawtooth with rounded top, not prairie points. It looks like an ice cream cone, pointed end and the rounded part is the edge. I tried to get at the quilt books to find one with the exact name and it was not possible to get more than two feet into that room.
I'll have to "inventory" the beaded dresses, know there are at least a dozen here, likely many more at storage. All colors Steph. some beaded, some sequins, some both. yes, they would be very cool in a crazy quilt. I did give a new size 24 or 26 to the lady who used to clean for me, wonder if she ever wore it. Had a holiday party at her husbands work and neither sets of sweats she had seemed right to wear :)
Tide is not used at this house either. After I moved Mother up here to assisted living, I did all her laundry. She asked what kind of detergent I was using and told her Surf. She said "I always used Tide", so my response was "yes, and I've always been allergic to it". End of discussion. When I go to Costco, their big plastic tub works well and lasts a long time. Don't care for Sam's brand.
Karin in ME, have another quilt book that really reminded me of your creations. What Nots and Whimsy's. Many talented art quilters.
Jess, think I'll be okay with starter shipping boxes, can use a Yahtzee score pad box, actually two put together. Don't need to be spending postage to send boxes, but thanks. As some of you know, buying boxes is not done here, just about everything gets shipped in Hasbro boxes I bring home after they're emptied at the store. Many times cause I'm too lazy or tired to take them to the baler in the back of the store.

I have washed two loads of laundry and folded them. The bed is made. Made some chocolate chip muffins, swept the kitchen floor, cleaned the dining room table and chairs, put supper in the crockpot and took my shower. I still need to make lunch but I wanted to check in here first. Not much planned for us today. We are supposed to get a cold front coming through and I don't even want to go out. My husband went to the bank and run some errands.

Ronna~I bring boxes home from the drs. office I clean all the time. They come in handy.

Karin~did you pat your treadle today. Hope you can get it in the house quickly and get a good nap.

I am determined to finish the owl hats this weekend. Jess and Teresa they will be in the mail on Monday~even if I have to stay up all night Sunday. LOL

I started making my own laundry detergent about a year ago. This last batch is the first one I added essential oils to and I love it. I always like my laundry to smell good and this really does. I added a lily of the valley essential oil. So nice.

I liked Tide but it was getting so expensive. I save quite a bit making my own. Helps keep the grocery bill down since all the prices keep getting higher.

Jess~I hope you are having a quiet and uneventful day and getting what you need done.

It is raining again here today. Dh had to go in to work. I am still going through fabrics, and cutting out aprons. Still no sewing machine. Joe the repairman is waiting on Viking to send him the parts. I really need to get an order finished, and work on that quilt.

Jessica ~ My problem is stinky buildup if I vary from my A&H or Sportswash detergents. I even tried that supposed magical Charlie's detergent for just a month on everything (diapers, clothes, sheets, towels), and it took me 3-5 months and line drying everything numerous times to un-do the funk. It was bad. My hard water just has an odd mixture of minerals that does funky stuff to laundry/dishes/plumbing. Well, and we don't do smells anymore, beyond lavendar flowers (or buds?) in sachets in the linen closet. I have asthma, and artificial smellies give me headaches.

If it helps to picture it better, most water-using appliances only last 10 years unless you're good about taking care of them (hubby pulls out up to 6 inches of sediment from our water heater each year), shower heads need to be soaked in vinegar every 1-2 months or CLR every 3 months, etc. Not as hard as other people's water, but it's still a challenge.

I figure once I'm done with diapers (that I want to sell when we're done), I'll be better able to play around... Although from the sounds of our sad washing machine, it may be on it's last legs and a front-loader may be on the horizon. Decisions, decisions.

If not, you should!!! Get on Craigslist! ;)
I have several "backups". The ideal thing to do is thread one in black, one in white, one in blue and one in red. Chances are good that one of them will be raring to go when you want to work on a project.

Lanna, you could give the soap recipe a try. Borax softens the water. We've prettygreat water, but I'm just lazy about sticking with washing with soap, plus I can never find washing soda reliably so I revert back to the Arm and Hammer.

Yikes. I cannot keep up and there is too much to read in a few minutes. I did catch that someone wanted to know how to submit to MJF. Go here- http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/KeepingInTouch/,
click on the current (or other) listing and submit.
I'm cleaning out the craft room today and you will not believe what I found!! Go see the blog to find out. Really, I am a good housekeeper.
Hope everyone's children, water pipes and animals are all doing well!
I'm nursing an injured foot and have to elevate it every twenty minutes, which is making cleaning a bit more of a chore today. Grrrr.

Jess, I do have a back up, but dh needs to replace a part. I also have an old Singer sewing machine, but I need to learn how to use it before attempting using it on something for others.

I was thinking about that. I need to learn how to use it. Dh wants me to get rid of all sewing machines except the one that is currently being repaired.
