sssssshhhhhhh!! My serger is behaving for the longest record of time...no broken needles, no jams. But I switched to a Pfaff....got it from a thrift store for $125..took it for a servicing and it works like a dream.

Autumn, sadly alot of the really cheap sergers and sewing machines have issues with bobbins, threading tension and broken needles.

Look on Ebay for a nice used Serger...get it for the price of a cheap one from another place...the entry level babylock and Pfaffs, etc. can be had for under $300 sometimes.....and the machine companies are always running promotions and you always have a machine shop to go to with any servicing and they teach you how to use it...I do realize you may not have that machine shop option but it's really worth it in the long run....

And I do know that lots of you never spend alot of money on machines and they work just fine...so this is just my two cents worth of advice since you asked for it.

I actually have 2 local shops that sell machines and I was thinking a used better machine myself. So Babyloc is a good one? I will be making a stop to look at them on Tuesday I believe. I am making a day trip to see my dad tomorrow.

Autumn, that's great that you have the machine shops...yahoo!! Women are always trading in their machines and sergers so they normally have some really good buys. Anyone that buys from machine dealers has a preference on their favorite brand. I have a Janome brand needlefelting machine but otherwise I have heard some negative feedback on their sewing machines..I've sewn on one many years ago and it sounded like a freight train...LOL Was not a good experience at all. But there's so much competition among all these brands that there's always new features and improvements being made.

I think if I had to buy another machine I'd go for Viking or Pfaff...

Steph, Sorry to hear about your mall troubles! Some people just need to seem important!

Autumn, I have a Singer serger that hubby bought for me 4 1/2 years ago from Walmart and I have always had very good luck with it! I have only had it repaired once and it was my fault not the machines!

Okay I would be up for a Clothespin bag swap! Why not I need something to do!! hahaha!!! NOT!!

I finally found a new issue of MJF at Hastings today, but I think I am out of luck finding an issue of Apronology! I would order one, but I don't think I can bring myself to pay $6.00+ for shipping!! Why do I have to live in the middle of nowhere?!

Monica, Didn't take me long to remember why I don't go to malls very often...wouldn't been in this one if I had a choice of where to get my glasses made.

Yeah, I know it seems weird to get you panties in a twist about your child's photo being taken, but well, yeah. Being violated sucks.

That is a very cute clothespin bag! If only I could get myself to actually use something like that. Ah, just need to work on my aprons - and not ones with those piddly little crayon-box sized pockets (like my grandma's aprons that I've got).

Had to get the second wood stove going tonight. 16*F. If it's going to be this cold, new snow to play in would be nice. The kids can only chuck ice chunks at each other for so long. And I need to hunt down some new snow pants for my 5yo - turns out his 8/10 pants aren't insulated enough to keep his legs as warm as I'd like. So on the hunt again - unless anybody here knows someone with gray/black/red/blue Columbia snow pants size 7+ that need a new home...

We just had a horrendous downpour with hail. Our street and front yard was all white. This does not happen that often. Sure, we do get hail, but usually just a little bit.

Holy Cow! hailing in Cali!

What the heck, it's 9 degrees this morning. That's OK, Zeb and I are are taking a trip north to make some pizza.

Sergers. I got my Simplicity Frontier from Nancy's Notions. I figured anything she was selling was halfways decent. The model she's offering now is http://www.nancysnotions.com/category/sewing+with+nancy/smart+buys.do?sortby=priceDescend
for $249. Looks just the the Singers that are under $200. I've had a few years and sewn the sh#t out of it. You'll want one for all your clothing construction~in fact you can sew everything on it and just do your topstitching on your regular machine. Anything you want to sell that has exposed seams should be serged IMO.

Sharon~I can't believe the hail.

I don't have a serger and have always been intimidated by them. Too many threads and needles. I am sure I would get it all mixed up.

I have a new Brother and it has a stitch that is similar to a Serger and I can purchase an attachment that cuts off the extra fabric. It's probably not as good but it's what I have used for now.

my serger is a singer, bought it for i believe 198 which included shipping to my house. i sew everything with it and really abuse it, i only break needles when i am sewing through like 8 thicknesses of fleece, or 6 of jeans, if i slowdown it is fine, but you know me, once i get going i slow for nothing!

i have been trying to blog for days, keep not getting to it..oh someday!

Several inches of snow here overnight. Fluttered all yesterday and started to come down heavier and stick late last night.

This is the sewing machine I have. Hubby bought it for me this summer. I still don't know how to use all of it but I love what I have used so far.

Someday I will know how to use all it's features. I don't think it can sew through all those layers like yours, Jess.

Ruth, yes we get some snow, mostly in this northern part of the state. Usually doesn't last long though.
Carrie, I don't know of a baking soda sub, sorry.

Our rooftops still have ice. I can't believe it either, especially that the ice is still on the rooftops.

Gals, we have not had our car in the garage in 23 years or so. Dh had a place marked off in the garage for the car, but that is filled up now, but not by a car.

The builder of this house told me no one parks in their garage, but we surely do. Two cars and the Harley each have their own bay. After he told me, I looked at all the houses around and he's mostly right.

Most of our neighbors on our street, park their cars in the garage, unless their garages are full. Across the street, the dh parks his car in the garage, and the wife parks her car either in the driveway or street. They both have large SUV vehicles, but I don't know why the husband gets the garage.
