Hey Linda hurry up. The suspense is killing me. Just kidding, but look forward to seeing the pictures. My material is still sitting here waiting for me to make an apron, so you are well ahead of me. I can't see me making anything until after the holidays. I am so busy right now. One more weekend to go for the show. YIPEE

I have my Bees Without Borders fabric and all I've done with it is stroke it and dream. Finals are coming up fast and I don't have much time to sew right now.

My Bees apron is the pink and I made my own bias out of light blue wieh small bubbles print. My pockets are always made larger than patterns but not alot. I want my hands to have room in them. LOL They are the blue also. The blue was used to make the back/neck strap and the ties. I thought about adding lots of other things but can't bring myself to change any of it...I like it as is. :-) I have a small piece left over...probably just right for a couple of potholders. I could also make another apron and use the little piece of bee fabric for it's pockets. I paid a total of $14.50 for one yard of the material!! I think that is alot. Shipping made a difference. Are all of the rest of you paying that much shipping?

Linda, Can't wait to see your apron....and yes, the shipping always make a huge difference when only ordering a small quantity..what a drag it puts on the budget anymore. Used to never give postage a second thought..
I haven't ordered my apron fabric yet either. Guess I will think more about it next year. I noticed how many of us have joined the Sisterhood..that's pretty cool I think.
Naomi, what type of sewing class are you taking?

I'm getting lessons from a former co-worker of my dads, shes been sewing for about 45 years...started out on a treadle, and made her first wedding dress on it at age 17...I saw it, and wow, it wasnt perfect, but for age, and machine used, she did pretty darn well...but shes been teaching me the basics, as well as things she didnt learn until years down the road, as well as things shes figured out, and arent typically in the books...this week was sleeves and cuffs, all I had to do was listen because I've made all the types of sleeves she talked about today, raglan, set in, and kimono. cuffs, she just explained and gave me a detailed list of how-to...lessons usually last about two hours, which includes me showing her all I've made since our last lesson, and chit-chat here and there. Shes taught in military classrooms, and written lots of different things for the military, and really is a fabulous writer/teacher/seamstress/etc. She's also written for our magazine...whew...That was a mouth full...haha tomorrow I'll probably be off...I'm converting my bedroom from bedroom/craftroom to...SEWING STUDIO wish me luck...hahahaha

Hey, that's me! Although I wouldn't attach "ar-Tist" to my name, but I sure have crammed my craftsie stuff all over the house. I just had to make room for 2 more sewing machines that arrived yesterday. (vintage 50's-early 60's). Spent most of the afternoon and evening cleaning, oiling, and figuring out what was or wasn't missing or needed replacing and finding the parts online. This all started after I got infected with Jess's Treadle/Vintage Machine virus and her encouragement to just simply deal with this incurable plague.....ROFL If anyone plans to travel to the Mile High City or southern Indiana, I know of a couple obsure sewing machine museums run by eccentric ladies you don't want to miss! LOL

you go girl..i have an outdoor studio in the covered part of my barn, an indoor studio in my barn, and a sewing room in my house. Now, I do share all the spaces with my kids but when they are grown and gone, i will share no more. I need to get a kiln for my outdoor studio, but for now I can build brick kilns and fire in there and just sleep out in the summer to tend it. Anywhere you can create Nay is a good space! YOu have got the right idea.
Bonne...admission to my museum is free, but you may not leave without folding 2 loads of laundry, I am not sure how attractive that is to people, but it works for me. |

Jess- You just THINK you won't share space when they are grown and gone-

| If I posted a picture of my living room you would fall over and faint...I hate folding and dont have time to do it, so I have taken recently totossing it in the living room, now I believe there may be no clothes, towels, washcloths or linens in any closet of drawers anywhere in the house..I just folded 5 loads of towels and I am putting them away right now, but as for the rest..I have no idea what I am going to do...and my mil, fil, sil, and bil are coming for Christmas in a few weeks, my house must be immaculate, and I am not sure how that is going to work out. I am using the computer right now to stall. What to do? Yeah, I know I just have to do it, but there are aprons, potholders, quilt squares, and mini's callin my name and it sounds like much more fun! |
