This is something I had heard about but not had the hard info until now. If you are a parent of a school age child, the Pentagon is collecting data about your child to turn over to military recruiters. The data base is illegal, as is the distribution of this info but you must act to have your child's info deleted and not included. If this is something that concerns you, here is the link to follow : www.leavemychildalone.org/optout
As this stands now due to the "No Child Left Behind Act" public high schools are required to hand over private information on students to military recruiters. If a school refuses to comply they risk losing federal education funds.
Please understand I mean no disrespect for anyone who has made this choice of their own volition. In a world of diminishing personal rights and privacy, our children's rights should be protected now more than ever. For those of you that home school, you are not immune either. If your children are monitored in any way by a district, their information is being released as well.

Can we all just go buy ourselves a few thousand acres and create our own community now? Away from all this monitoring? The gov't can watch us by satellite and we'll still read newspapers and vote, but this stuff makes me so sick. Bad enough that through our credit cards our spending habits are known, or that with the discount grocery cards we have to get (else the cost of groceries is prohibitive) what foods we buy is known, our phone conversations can be recorded, our MSN/AIM/Yahoo/Trillian conversations are kept, our Internet habits can be monitored... Its all so invasive and all I really want in this life is my privacy back. Golly they even knew when I'm on the rag by when I'd get feminine products. There are no secrets anymore, our lives are an open book. My husband is a teacher and has to be fingerprinted!
I don't know about you, but I don't feel free anymore.
Anybody else want to create a new community? We'll set up a few - some in N GA (land is cheaper in Alabama though), some in WA, etc. Just litte communities that are just ours. No electricity, hopefully no mortgage, just the taxes to pay. |

Thank you for this, Bramble, I've filled out and downloaded all the forms for my kids and will be sending these off in the morning! Count me in for the new community!

You're welcome, I thought it might be of interest to those of us with middle and high school age children. Our PTA will be distributing the forms on back to school night as this seems to be something that has been flying under the radar for too long now.
As a teacher I don't mind the fingerprinting, one of the districts nearby recently caught an individual applying for an elementary school that had no business being anywhere near children; yes, it's an invasion, but I have nothing to hide, so... it's no problem.Better safe than sorry when it comes to all our children in that respect.
As for your community comment... in the current political atmosphere they would probably think we were a cult that had to be eradicated! Besides I like diversity, it makes life interesting and keeps me on my toes!

John Wayne said in McClintock, "There is no Free Land", if you can make a farm work on the Mesa Verde, you will have earned it". Keep in mind ladies, there is a price to be paid for our Freedom to use this forum and others. Be careful what you wish for because although women tend not to "argue" as much, it's usually those that are more passive that get run over.
Let's keep FARM LAND as FARM LAND! |

As is stated in the Member Tips post in the Welcome Category, we respect and honor the differences among us. As long as a subject is not offensive, we have no problem with discussing differing views. Everyone should feel free and safe to discuss their opinions in a respectful manner here.
