So you had to make your seam allowances much smaller than 1/4"? That's the only thing I can come up with. I'll see what I can do, I really don't have time to re-do these guys... I suppose I'll figure something out. Time to put my thinking cap on!

What I do is use a scant 1/4 seam allowance.
I will also increase my black pieces by 1/8 inch. This insures just enough fabric to trim and square up your blocks.

I have started another set of blocks just incase. So now I have rasberrys and apples.

I know that some of you are having a little trouble with your blocks coming out perfect. Don't worry. Do the best you can. The nice thing about us all using the same back ground fabric is that we can either add a little to each block when we receive them or we can just trim them up to all be the same size.
I hope that you are all having fun with this pattern.

Oh, Pennie, I just sent you something snail mail! Let me know when you receive it!
Everyone have a great week. I am super busy at work. Not much time to spend with my cyber friends. I have been getting home late too. And, well, I just don't feel like sitting in front of the computer sometimes. I hope that work eases up a little soon.
The weather is getting nice and I need to start doing some more yard work. I need to get my husband motivated to get in the garage and work on my motorcycle. I plan on taking it in the work more this year. Seeing that gas is at $3.25 now. They say its going to get higher for the summer!
Remember when $20.00 would fill your tank and give you change enough for a coffee and donut? Now its close to $50.00 and I make coffee at home and a slice of white toast! bummer...

I learned something valuable on one of my trips to Asilomar in CA to a quilt seminar, that is that the seam (thread) is a kerf, as in cutting wood the wood reduced to sawdust is the kerf. Thread takes room and I learned that using a slightly less than 1/4 inch seam makes things work out so much better. Does that make sense or am I just rambling on?

So the finished size should be 8.5 x 12 - not square.
I started out using the link for the squatty jar- and the picture at the beginning of this thread looks more square.
I just dont want to mess up the swap so straighten me out if 8.5 x 12 is not the plan. Sorry

When I first learned to quilt in college we marked every seam with chalk or marker and sewed them all by hand. It wasn't as hard to make the seams accurate that way.
I'll have to mark my seams very careful now as I am having a hard time keeping blocks accurate. I sure need practice, but as soon as I get more confident I'll love making quilt blocks.

Well, well, well! Yes I suppose I am the topic, now! You got me curious, so here it is!:

Etymology
Of Irish origin, "scalawag" refers to a "rascal" and is probably from sgalog "a labourer".
Noun
scallywag (plural scallywags)
1. (pejorative) A rascal.

Yes, I am one! I suppose it is fitting...I am also of Irish origin!

If you want the history of the word this is what wikipedia has to say:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scallawag

And today I am definitely a "laborer"! I have done 12 loads of laundry, scrubbed 1 large bathroom top to bottom, scrubbed every kitchen major appliance top to bottom, took apart and put back together a full sofa, and 3 whole dishwasher loads from beginning to end!

I still have several rooms and countless loads of laundry to go. Thank goodness for fabulous in-laws, who come again to help with the children tomorrow! Then off to New Jersey & my gorgeous hubby!

Hello girls! Having fun I see!
Just an FYI.... I receive Sheila's blocks this afternoon.
You did a great job Sheila!
How are the rest of you doing??
I have most of the fabric cut for my second set.
Still very busy at the office. Just got home late. Looks like another quicky microwave dinner for me.

Hey
I am just getting a chance to catch my breath. Lots of stuff going on-BUT I wanted to post a picture of my jar block- I haven't pressed it yet. Does it seem right,Kathy? It measures right but the lid seemed "thick" to me. Let me know before I cut the rest out.
I love this pattern and yes I am having fun with the blocks!

Thanks Jess- I miss you guys.
It was a rough week- my mom & I are the only family that she had.
There is still lots to do but I am home taking a break for a bit before I return to help Mom finish closing this chapter of our lives.

Autumn,
That looks perfect! Yes the lid is a little thick but that is how the pattern makes it.
And I love the lemons!!! Great job.
