I have been on the search for a Clematis that I saw in a Martha Stewart Living magazine 4 years ago--every Spring it gets in my head and then I promptly forget about it....Well, NOT this year! This is the year I get my "Huldine" Clematis and I found this incredible website from the bay area that I'm ordering that one (and maybe a few more ) from ....

http://www.chalkhillclematis.com/

Even if you don't like them, can't grow them, whatever, treat yourself to the beauty of this site!!!

Beautiful - what a cool website. I didn't realize there were so many different kinds of Clematis. I can see why you like the Huldine - very soft looking and delicate. I have a few Clematis in my yard, one is the Princess of Bangkok, which is a double white and then I have a deep single red and a purplish double blue. But from looking at this site I may need to add a couple more to my yard.

Thanks for sharing.

What a treat! I have two clematis in my garden, but they haven't done very well, I don't know if it is the super hot weather we've been having in the summer or what. It was really cold this winter, but at least they had a good snow cover, I'm hoping they will reappear. They are such beautiful plants.

I know, Anne...I didn't realize there were so many, based on the selection at local nurseries, and looking around at folks yards. Honestly, I didn't think I actually liked them--everyone I'd seen was somewhat "tropical" and alway, always deep purple. Just sortof pedestrian, I guess.

I loved countless others on the site, but they are already sold out, but I picked two more to go with the Huldine and we'll see what happens :)

Anne, I'd love to see photos of your Clematis when they are in bloom...they both sound soooo lovely!!!!

Karin, I'm hoping for the best for your two plants. You just never know about growing seasons. Actually, some of the very clematis that I looked at on this site aren't even for my zone, and we can grow just about anything!!!!

Very cool Jonni, Bookmarked the page will go back later to order. Need to get some plants going as I'm sure someday the snow will melt here and the gardens, flowers will reappear to share their colors.

Goode Evening...
Thanks for sharing this website... I am very impressed, since I love clematis's, I will definately consider ordering from here. The prices are good too.
Thought I would add a photo of my White Clematis... no idea of the name, I transplanted it from my ole homeplace.
Oh, by the way... clematis's love COLD FEET... so I place a rock at the base of all my clematis to keep the roots cool. Has worked for me, give it a try.
Blessings 2 you, Pamela

Thanks, Pamela...that's good advice, and such a pretty clematis! I'm glad you like the webpage...very lovely selections, and I thought the prices were good, too. Especially for their guarantee and how carefully they ship them. If you go back to look, in addition to Huldine, I purchased Elizabeth and Prince Charles. Thought I'd just get the whole monarchy by next year's time :)

Wow,the Huldine looks like a white Passion Flower to me! It is beautiful. I love clematis, but I can only grow the full shade varities in my yard. Thanks for the website, they have a great selection. I am definitely going to go through it carefully & see if there is something I can order for my yard.

hey Jonni,
I love clematis,,,,back in Calif., I had a light purple one called Jackmani(or something like that). It was such a hardy plant but I lost it and a number of other vineing plants last March when we experienced a freeze...the freeze did a lot of damage to the agriculture community around us.
I actuall have one in a pot in my house (HY-Young) it is light purple w/a white center. it seems to bee doing quit well.
Pamela, thanx for the tip about the rock-cold feet...I will try it.

Oh, Anne!!! They're just gorgeous!!!! I've been doing some studying and it says that usually, by the 3rd year, they're going strong--the first year and second, just getting established. Has that been your experience?

I love your shed, too!!!! Absolutely great backdrop for that magenta one!!!!

Jonni -

The red/magenta on the shed took off the first year, the other two not so much. Probably because they didn't like where they were planted, so by the second year I moved them in the back yard and they did good with in the first year after being planted. The double white next to the magenta has had the hardest time getting going, but I understand that doubles take a bit longer and only bloom on old growth.

I only have one clematis so far. Great website, Jonni. I'll have to check them out some more. The one I have is a dark maroon called Niobe. The first year it didn't grow much at all. Then the second year it never even sprouted. I thought the winter had killed it. Then last spring I was about to dig it out and plant something else there and found new growth! Well, I have never had a plant play dead for a year and then come back like that. So, I'm really looking forward to it this year. It should be a nice show.

Oh, I planted large marigolds at the base to keep the roots cool until the creeping jenny established itself. Ground covers work very well for shading roots.
