Hi Girls ~ I bought my granddaughter some vintage Barbie paper dolls from Ebay. She's Barbie crazy. The arrived Saturday and they must have been stored in somebody's basement because they smell musty and moldy. I can't give them to her like this. Anybody know how to get rid of that smell?

Thanks,
Patricia

Happy Wishes!

For old books, the recommendation is to use baking soda and two 'chambers', one small enough to fit into the larger (larger needs a lid). Put the paper item in one chamber (e.g. a plastic shoe box, without lid). Spread the baking soda (or kitty litter, altho not the heavily scented kind) in the bottom of a second, larger chamber/container. The smaller container goes into the larger; place the lid on the larger container to seal it up. Leave it like this for several days; repeat until odor is removed.

I thought when you said Barbie Stinks! you were making some kind of political statement!

Patricia, That's too funny. I'll admit you got me with your topic title. I was all set to jump in and defend Barbie. I collect the vintage reproduction dolls. I now have the wedding Barbie in the dress my mother wouldn't let me buy as a child because it cost too much. I have the Barbie Queen of the Prom Game also. It's the same like the one I had many years ago. Now I play with my granddaughter.

Anytime before bed time I can count on wading through a pile of barbies in the family room..youngest daughter is crazy for them. I only had one when I was a kid and it was sure abused (I was pretty much a tomboy and the poor thing got treated badly)
Charcoal in the same container might help with that moldy smell if the other dosn't work on the paper dolls too. Good luck!

Fabric softener sheets work wonders. Seal them up in ziplock bags with fabric softener sheets. You'll be amazed.

I have deodorised a lot of things with a small ozonater. You can rent them if you don't have one.
