Hi, Just thought I'd introduce myself. I live in SW Washington, but we are building a cabin in Montana and I plan to stay there this summer. The last of my four children has flown the nest and I am starting to remember the things I enjoyed before I was so busy with their school, sports etc. I enjoy baking, knitting, and especially sewing. I'm looking forward to participating in this forum and learning from and sharing with you all!

Hi Sherri! Wow, building a cabin in Montana?! That sounds wonderful! I've never been to Montana. What's it like where you're building? Are you planning on living there permanently? It sounds so exciting! I'm at the stage of my life before husband, kids, house, all that good stuff but look forward to every minute of it! I also enjoy baking, knitting, and sewing. I'm not particularly good at any of them, but I'm still very much a beginner. I hope to learn from some seasoned pros like yourself! Welcome!

Welcome Sherri! I live in Alberta, Canada, about an hour norht of the Montana border...I was down in Whitefish this summer, and absolutely fell in love with the area. Where will you be in Montana? Enjoy the forum, it's a great place to be! I'm also a huge lover of baking, have you got any favorite recipes? Again, welcome!

Hi, Sorry it took me so long to get back to you all. My husband is working in Pacifica CA right now, just south of San Francisco, and I am staying down here with him for a couple of weeks. I have to go to the local library to use the internet so sometimes it takes a couple of days. It's been interesting trying to find Christmas presents for my cold weather family (our boys hunt, rock climb, snowboard etc.) in sunny California! About the new life in Montana, I can't wait!! We started talking about doing this about 10 years ago and found some property in Central Montana. My husband was born in Scobey Mt and has always liked it there. We bought twenty one acres of rolling hills and pine trees at the end of a 1 1/2 milr private road which is 7 1/2 miles down a county road which is 25 miles from the closest little town. We had never built anything ourselves before so I had my doubts when we actually went over there and bought a trailer full of lumber and hauled in 120 miles to the land. My husband is the eternal optomist and kept telling me there was nothing to it. We had two weeks off then and managed to get the foundation and floor done. That was last October. We have gone over there everytime he gets laid off for at least two weeks and worked on it since. I'm amazed! It really wasn't that hard (of course he had to tell me EVERY thing to do!) It's 16 x 24 with a 16 x 16 loft and a big front porch. I went over there and stayed by myself in August while he was working in LV and stained the outside. It was SO peaceful. Lots of wildlife and two sets of WONDERFUL neighbors that live on the 1 1/2 mile private road. We are getting quotes now on a wind generator and the plan is for me to move there in the spring and for him to join me whenever he's not working. We have a grandchild due in May, so we'll see. Sorry I went on and on, but I do get excited about the prospect! I know I'm going to enjoy this forum!

what kinds of things do you like to sew? I love to sew too and make most of my clothes and all of my daughter's clothes.. I haven't been sewing long but golly, the more I do the easier it gets.. I've found that the key to sewing is ironing!! I've never loved my iron more!! Julia Hayes

Hi Sherri! Welcome to the Farmgirl Connection forum!
Your new home in Montana sounds absolutely wonderful! MaryJane loves living at the end of Wild Iris Lane. I'm thinking you will love the peace and quiet, and ohhh, the starry nights! All a farmgirl really needs is a cozy nest, a great hubby and a few good girl friends. It sounds like you'll have it all! There is nothing better than working hard and finally having your dream come true. Congratulations!
Since you're a neighboring farmgirl, I hope you'll be able to come visit us at the farm sometime. It would be wonderful to meet you!
Happy Holidays!
