A BIG WELCOME TO YOU LEILA ! My name is Nicki and I am new to the forum as well. I feel the same way you do, my husband and I have our home up for sale in hopes to own our own farm one day. I have always had the desire to live the farm life. I have 4 boys and 1 little girl and they all want to have a farm as well. I think it is just in us. We do have a small flock of chickens and we just started getting eggs, we are so excited every morning to go down to the coop and find an egg or two, but no one really can share our Joy except my new MJ family ! I glad to finally have found a group of ladies who share in the same likenss. I wish I could sit with you all on a front porch somewhere. I noticed you had a quote from Laura Ingalls- I suppose you are a Little House on The Pairie lover. Everyone in my family loves little house. Hope to share some more with you , Have a Very Merry Christmas ! Nicki

Hi Leila,

I'm brand new as well and just north of you in Gladstone.

I'd love to see pictures of your chicken coop. I built one for our little flock this past Summer and so far, have been very happy with how it turned out. I combined designs from pictures that I saw online.

I love building stuff and was pleased as punch with this project. Next, I'm going to start working on some raised bed tables for my veggie gardens. I've got a chicken moat idea that I'm combining with square foot gardening while we're at this rental. It will save my back and knees alot of pain and give over more run room for the chickens & ducks.

Nicki ~ Thank you for the warm welcome!! Wow, it sounds like you have your hands full! Yes, I am a *HUGE* Laura fan! In fact, I named my daughter Dakota after the prairie she described so beautifully. That is so exciting to get fresh eggs! What kind of chickens do you raise? I'm hoping to start a batch of Dominiques in the spring.

Cyndi ~ Yes, I know where gladstone is! My hubby and I are actually hoping to find some farmland somewhere just south east of you. (The dream is to live just outside Oregon City.) We found an AMAZING property down redland road - of course, the price tag was just as breathtaking! :) I always love a good excuse to share pictures of my coop! (If you can't tell, I'm very proud...hehe)Here's the link:

Lillian ~ So glad to know I have a farmgirl close by! ;) Do you belong to any local chapters? I'm thinking as soon as this snow melts I'd like to find a group and join up in person.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome!

Leila-
glad to hear from you ! yes i do have my hands full. just to let you know every christmas we watch the little house christmas , i love it , and i am sure you know , is when carrie looks at charles and says "what's christmas ?" and charles with the pipe in his mouth says, "what's christmas ?" and he begins to tell her. i aways get a lump in my throat . anyways- i have 2 rhode island reds, 2 isa browns ( which are my favorites by the way, i love their color and they are what i picture a Mother Hen ) and 1 buff orphington. this spring i plan on getting about 20 more for just me and i will sell the eggs, and then we will get some babies and sell them. we just love our chickens. it is something to keep the boys together. i really enjoy getting the eggs in the morning, i used them today in my christmas cookies. i will pray for you and your husband about you future farm. i dream about the day we really live on a farm. it is so fun the dream, by the way are you a ann of green gables fan? i decided my next batch of chickens i am going to name them after the characters in movie, marilla, anne shirley, gil ect.. hope you have a wonderful christmas ! nicki

Leila -

I grew up in Woodburn. My family moved there to my grandparent's farm back in about 1966/67 from California. We lived out on Hwy 214 on the way to St Paul (west side of Woodburn) We had a blueberry farm for about 30+ years. We three kids moved away and my parents retired and sold the farm about 13 years ago. It is now a horse training/boarding farm. The house and the old barns are still there but the blueberries are long gone.

I now live in Portland and my sister in Alaska and my brother in Seattle. My parents still live in Woodburn, they just moved within the city limits.

Welcome to the site.

Hi Cheryl! We're currently living out on Mt. Angel Hwy...about two miles from town. We just moved here last July from Pleasant Hill and hubby works for the railroad. His run for the last five years was from Eugene to Klamath Falls, so I have spent many many many hours of my life on the road between the two. I absolutely LOVE the high desert at night..especially in winter. (Besides the hazardous driving conditions and overzealous truckers, haha.) What part of K-falls are you from?

Leila, we moved onto a one acre property just off Wocus Road and Hwy 97. About one mile before the city limits. OIT is just over the hillside from us.
I have been to Mt Angel. Nice little community.

Hi Leila,

Welcome, We are in the process of moving to a 10 acre farm in Alsea OR. Best time of year to move middle of winter and a ton of rain. I can relate to the small quarters we are down sizing to about 1/3 of the space we had. It's all good just need to find room for all this stuff. But, anyway welcome you will love it here.

A few months ago I ordered the Mary Janes Farm magazine subscription for my daughter. [Although, I really would have enjoyed the magazine also! I figured I could read them after she was done with them.] She a farm girl at heart too! She has enjoyed them very much!

One of my greatest dreams is to live on a farm. I would really like to have a few acres here in Oregon and build a blueberry farm [with my daughter's family---he comes from a farming family in Missouri.] I really would like to be a farm girl, er . . . grandma! I once lived in the mountains on a seven acre place. This was my first taste of COUNTRY! Even though it was hard living there, in a ramshackle house originally built in the early 1900's raising six kids, the experience stuck with me; sort of like the old saying: "You can take the boy [girl] out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy [girl]." I started gardening when I lived there; the kids had 4H projects of lambs and pigs; we had a horse; and I tried raising chickens!

I've lived other places since then, but the country life is still what I long for. I like the peace, the wide open space, and it's still my dream!

Oh, and this is me:
www.pruitthandcrafts.blogspot.com

I just found this connection and look forward to everything!
Linda
