Okay girls, I am at a stand still. My daughter is having a wedding celebration July 25th in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. I don't know what to wear! I am 5'8" tall. Weight 160. Trying to loose 6 more pounds (But I just made maryjanes chicken bottom less pie..delicious.. but fattening!) I digress...

So her wedding will be outside, having a hog roast, vegin and vegetarian food also. They are very environmental couple.

I can't wear heels. Think I could wear black pants (scarf like) with a lavendar top?

I have no style. I have no waist. I have skinny legs and arms with a belly.

Need advice.

Thanks a bunch!

Love Londa

You could wear nice slacks and top with a scarf and flats if you like- that would be nice. Or if you wanted to go dressier you could look for an A line dress that falls about mid calf and some nice flat sandals to match. If you do the A line dress, try to find something that will create a visual waist, but A line dresses are flattering on almost everyone.

It sounds like a beautiful celebration! Congrats and have fun!

I agree with Alee, slacks and a beautiful summer top with comfortable sling back shoes or sandals. Where in WI are you going?

Londa--- if you are worrying about covering a little belly, empire waist blouses are great at that. Plus you can find them in all sorts of sweet materials and beautiful elegant prints!
Black pants and flats sounds great!! :)
Hope you have a blast!! :)

Hi Londa,
I have most of my weight in my stomach so it's hard for me to try to look like I have a waistline. A long one-piece dress is slimming and and neat looking too. I would make sure you wear something that YOU are comfortable in most of all and you feel like "yourself" if you know what I mean. I think it's important and much more comfortable to be as genuine or true to our own personalities no matter what anyone else is wearing. I agree that black pants and nice flats would be fine. Lavender and a wonderful color....ask your daughter what colors she likes on you. A scarf will also make an outfit dressier too. Flats that are gold or silver or even shiny black that look nice with anything if you can't find the color to match. I see nice sandals, balet style slippers and such in flats. I know I need to invest in some flats when I see them before they go out of style and can't be found.

Have fun with your outfit shopping and get lots of opinions...women love to help each other find clothes!

belts are really fashionable this season and a cute belt around the narrowest part of your torso will create a waist. not only that, but it really pulls an outfit together visualy.

I agree about it being comfortable for you and something you like.

I remember when I was getting married, my MIL kept asking me what she should wear. I told her I didn't care what ever she wanted. I didn't even care what my mom wore.

I figured they should wear what ever they wanted.

I never understood the whole mother of the bride/groom being told what to wear, and if not the big ole mental break down!

I figure my friends and family better except my mother and mil in what ever they want to wear, or they aren't the kind I would want at my wedding any way!

You are almost exactly the same size as me. The soft lightweight pants would be great and I highly recommend an empire waist print top with flowing fabrics too. Very flattering and hide that annoying tummy shape we develop after a long winter of yummy fattening food!

I think your choice of black pants and lavender top sounds fine for an outdoor wedding. I would suggest you take along a jacket of some type because in Wisconsin you never know what the weather is going to be like even in July. The nights can get pretty chilly so if they have a late afternoon or early evening wedding and the weather is being typical Wisconsin weather....you might freeze your keester off...LOL

Londa sounds like we are in the same boat. My son is getting married on July 11, outdoor wedding in a large garden, reception is in a boat house overlooking a lake. Over the years I have given up having to wear panty hose, fitted suits and all the stuff. I love what you have picked out to wear. I think I have found my outfit - a natural colored linen skirt that is cut with a bit of a tulip shape to the bottom. A silk blouse which looks similar to a simple tee shirt but has a key hole button closure in the back. I am wear a flat (not found those yet) and will design a freshwater pearl necklace and earrings set. I am doing the jewelry for the bridal party along with the flowers. Folks who know me know if I came in something that was not me I would have a horrible time and not enjoy the day. I also figure if you are more concerned with what I am wearing then who I am - well let me just say it this way - you really do not want to be that close to me because I might hurt you.

Enjoy the day and I am sure anything you wear with love in your heart will be fantastic.
