Hi sister farmgirls,
What do ya think of this pattern for a dress?
I love it! I got this in email from Butterick online site.
It may take a few yards of fabric but I could piece it with fatquarters or smaller pieces to make it quilt-like.
Or any fabric to be cool for the hot summer months.

Have ya seen anyting like this??
what do you think about it?

That's really pretty Linda! I think that it would be adorable done up as a quilted one.
Too cute!!

I love this pattern!! JoAnn's is having a huge sale this weekend I may have to make a run over and see if I can get this. It looks so comfy.

the design itself is really cute, but unless you are shaped like the model it could end up being unflattering on. a girl with a few curves should concider tying this dress more like a wrap skirt or adding a few darts to the waist area to define the body a little.

Oh, you are too right Corrine, and here I was hoping if I bought the pattern I'd end up shaped like the darned model ...I think I'll get it anyway and fiddle with some shaping.

Yes, Corrine...I sure miss being skinny! In high school I weighed 95 lbs...5 ft 6 inches..
then for a few years I was 120 or so....
then these last few years closer to 165...oh well, I think that's normal or typical for Americans.

Yes, I agree that it could really make a chubby woman look bigger but I also thnk it could be adjusted to tie better at the waist...or at least more snug.

If anyone comes up with one, please post a pic. I can't afford the pattern unless it's on sale. I'd really like to see the shape of it untied and laid out... it looks very simple.

i had to learn to look at the shape of a pattern the hard way. it is so disapointing to spend hours making an adorable dress just to find out it doesn't do anything for your shape. i don't know how many times i've done that.

I got this email from Butterick too -- it is an adorable pattern, but I'm leary of just how it would look once it's finished.

I agree with doing some little darts just to bring in the sides a touch. The back view is just too too cute, but I haven't figured out how to make myself look teeny like the model...

Deborah...congrats on the new farm...start a blog and show us pics!

I will get that pattern only when Joann's has them on sale...hopefully soon.
I like the pattern..I love anything that is wrap around.

Hey ladies...check out this vintage Butterick pattern:

http://www.butterick.com/item/B4790.htm

It's a simple wrap that looks comfortable...of course the girl in the picture has a 12 inch waist, but I'm sure it would look cute on real women too! I've had this pattern for a year or so and am waiting to find the right fabric! I think it's a super cute summer dress!

your right, april. that dress would be flattering on almost any woman. it is cut to flatter a womans curves and emphisise (or even create) an hour glass figure. the construction of it is more detailed, but would be completely worth the effort! i wish i had time to make one for myself. currently, i am working on a bathing suit project............
