Ok I have been wanting/needing a haircut all week. I finally got ot go tonight. I had second thoughts, but I thought ahh it'll be alright. My hair was down to the middle of my back. I still had a lot of curl left from my perm. I jsut wanted a trim. A little layering. Yeah well now it's barely touching the top of my shoulders and is entirely way too short on the top and I can't get in a pony tail or nothing. Oh somebody tell me to quit whining. LOL

Anyhoo the question--- Is there anything that will make hair grow really fast?

Oh Melanie! I'm sorry this happened to you! Not even a ponytail? I'm *lost* without my ponytail or messy French Roll. Can you get some of it up, and add a few barrettes to keep the other strands in place?

The only thing to help hair grow is good nutrition. :( It grows faster in the fall too.

I know this is going to sound weird, but go to wigs.com and get yourself a hairpiece. I've been trying to grow my ultra-short cut out for about a year now, and my hairpiece has been a lifesaver getting through the "in-between" times. They've got clips and such that all you do is pin them on, and voila! Instant pony-tail (or bun, or whatever).

Good nutrition helps grow hair like Lynn saids and scalp massages help the blood circulate and I have heard that helps too- but unfortunatly it is going to be a while- probably a month or so before you can do a pony tail. Try taking a pre-natal vitamin, and they do have "hair and nails" vitamins (but I think prenatals are cheaper).

Sorry they cut off so much :( Hope you have fast growing hair like I do!

Oh, not fun, Melanie!! Hair grows faster in sunny weather...or I know mine does...so you might try enjoying some leisurely sun bathing.

HI Melanie,
Lots of fruits and veggies that have vitamin B will bump up the hair growing process. Or you can just take Vitamin B in capsules. If you are really anxious for it to grow back and you can stomach them--you can take a prenatal vitamin. I'd just as soon take the vitamin b though as the prenatals make me sick as a dog!!

It's the top that bothers me the most. My crazy hair has just enough natural wave to it and then you add the humidity and it looks like I have a big fuzzball on my head. I have pulled my hair back until my eyes are just slits and have managed to get a nub of a ponytail. Bobby pinned some the loose stuff. So at least it's off my neck and I'm not so hot and grouchy. LOL I remembered when I was pregnant with the kiddies and the prenatal vitamins made my hair and nails grow like wildfire, but I wasn't sure if they sold them over the counter. Hmmm I may have to brave the heat and go see if I can find some.

Thanks ladies!

Those are some good ideas I had never heard of.
Good luck with your hair and don't go back to that hairdresser!
I see many hairpieces in many stores...could be fun to use some..they are very inexpensive nowo.

By the way, I love your quote about the kind of woman to be!

I feel for you Melanie. I have somehow managed to get 5 bad hair cuts in a row. I am ready to swear off hair cuts. Mine is sooo short I hate it. Hang in there it will grow.

Look up moon phases and hair growth. The New Moon...but if you cut your hair when the moon is it this phase your hair will grow fast. I did it when I was cutting my granddaughters hair...It made it thick and grow like crazy. All you need to do is TRIM a small amount when the moon is NEW and it will grow like crazy. I know you are not wanting to do any cutting anymore for a while...But this will work...

You know Deborah, I think I recall hearing something about this once. I always thought it was just an old wive's tale. But it really works? Crazy, but cool!

What about getting gel or mouse & scrunching your hair. Let it air dry or blow dry. Keep on scrunching it as you blow dry for the curls. You may already do this w/having a perm ... or Instead of putting a pony tail in it, pull it up on the sides w/a barrette. If you pull it to the back of your head, its pretty close to being like a pony. At least it keeps the hair out of your face while working. Another idea is just twisting up the bottom & clipping it to the back of your head. If you straigten it will it be long enough for a pony?

As for making it grow fast, I agree w/the others about taking prenatals & massaging your scalp like Alee said. A friend of mine is taking biotin. Not sure what it costs or how its working for her yet.

The hairdresser should've known when your hair's wet that it's longer & especially w/curly hair that it'll really shrink up once it dries. Sorry she didnt do what you were hoping for. Thankfully it'll grow, but in the meantime takes getting used to. Your hair will probably relax in a week or 2. Its probably in shock like you. It'll have grown a tiny bit by then & should lay a little better for you.

I am a Master Cosmetologist and an Instructor here in Ga. I have done this for 30 yrs...I know what you are going through...I try to make it clear to my students that you have to make sure to talk to the client and make sure you HEAR them and what they want. It is about all the things you can take and do for your hair to make it healthy...is...that those things go to the hair, skin, and nails last..the boday takes what it needs before it goes to the places last...So you need to make sure you are healthy then the hair will grow...but the Moon thingy I said before REALLY worked...

Wow, Deborah, I never knew that about the moon phases, but once I read it it made so much sense to me! I'll definitely remember that.

Melanie, girl, I feel for you! I've always had long hair, usually mid-back length. I think that's my "set-point" if there's even such a thing. (Deborah?) But I cut it really, really short when Melrose Place was so popular and there was a girl on there with a cute pixie cut. Best short hair cut I'd ever had! I loved it! But I grew it out cause the hubs wasn't nearly as enamored with it as I was. Several, several years later, I took pics of me with that cut to my very trusted hairdresser and she just couldn't get it to look the same. I was so disgusted and she felt so bad! I haven't cut it other than trims since then. I get a wild hair (ha!ha!) ever so often to cut it all off again, but am just too scared to! So, I applaud your courage! Mine's naturally curly, too, and I second Kelly about scrunching yours until it grows out some. And I second the prenatal vitamins. It's unreal what they do for your hair and nails and complexion! And there's always a ball cap!

It would maybe not bother so bad if it wasn't so balsted hot and humid. I have just enough hair to make it too hot to wear down and not quite enough to get all off my neck. So far today though it is doing better. I have most all of it in a little nubby ponytail, just a couple of small strays.

Last week I cut my youngest daughter's hair really really short. She is soooo cute. She wasn't so crazy about it at first either, but she doesn't really mind it now. I guess we were both used to having longer hair and now that it's so short we feel bald. LOL But anyhoo she came home from her dad's house yesterday and I took down my lil nubby pony and she just about died. She thought it was hilarious.

Leave it to the kiddos to boost your self-esteem! :) Ever so often I'll braid my hair in two braids and it never fails to crack-up my DD when she sees me like that. She'll ask, "What are you? Five or something?" I don't care. It gets if off my neck and out of the way and my sweet hubs tells me it looks cute while the little brat is rolling on the ground laughing her patookus off at me!

I am an ex-salon brat. Get yourself some smoothing creme. Just a small dab cuz anymore will make you look greasy. A good drugstore brand is Alberto V05 or John Freida. a wax is gonna melt in summer heat and make it look matted. You can smooth it down and then use a scarf ala Jackie O. I'm forever with sunglasses on my head! Even in the salon the manager would tell me to remove them! HA!

Oh Melanie, I'm right with ya! I went to my fav stylist in March 2 weeks before my sons wedding and just wanted a "trim"...I can now (June) just get this little hunk of hair into a pony tail with strands falling out all over! She was so busy talking she must not have been paying attention to her cutting!!! I'm in bad need of a trim now but I don't dare go anywhere! Try bandanas - when I'm horse camping or even riding on hot days I'll wet a bandana and put it on my head or around my neck...works like a charm!

Don't you just hate when the stylist doesn't listen to you?? I rarely go in to have a trim and have my hubby do it. Mine is at my waist and he just trims it straight across.

I had to go with a REALLY short cut a few years ago because of a messed up color session at a fancy salon...I mean how do you mess up blond highlights on light blond hair???

Anyway, I found if I curled my hair and used one of those funky little plastic accordian looking round headbands, it pulled my hair up off my heck and face and it looked great. It was amazing how many compliments I got when doing my hair like that. Walmart and Target carry those headbands and they come in different colors. Just make sure you fasten it around your neck like a necklace first and then slide up into your hair or it gets tangled easily.
