Hello ya'll. I'm new to the site. My sister got me hooked on Mary Jane a few months ago and I am loving all things farmgirl. My hope is to retire in the next few years and buy some land in the North Ga or Tenn mt. valley and have my own little farm. I especially want a cow of my very own (LOVE fresh milk!) and my DH loves to garden. I am married with 2 grown children and 8 grandchildren. I presently work fulltime in Medical Billing and I teach parttime. (I was a nurse for 30+ yrs and thought I'd destress by changing jobs. Haha ) Anyway, the farm life sounds so much more peaceful and I crave it. As I have browsed around the blogs I have found so many of you ladies that sound like people I want to get to know. I am so looking forward to becoming an active part of this site. Hugs to all!

I love having a milk cow (my Mona is a big part of our family) and I have never regretted bringing her home nearly 4 years ago. I don't have a real farm...just a farmette...but we do what we can, right? I hope you get to have your place soon.

Your dream sounds wonderful. There are lots of Farmgirls here who have made a similar dream happen.

Nice to "meet" you, Linda! And how wonderful to have another Southern farmgirl here on our lil' forum! You'll have to "talk" to Kris on here; she lives in the very area you dream to move to, in Chickamauga. And she's just as sweet as every other farmgirl here! Oh, you're gonna love it here!

Hey Linda. Welcome from N.Ga. I live at the foot of Lookout Mt. and Pigeon Mt. I would love to have a farmgirl neighbor nearby! I have milk goats. Thought about the cow but changed my mind. I do have a red Angus type yearling heifer that I will breed when she's around 2 and will try to milk her. But right now I'm sticking with goats.
I look forward to seeing you around the forum.
I forgot to say my parents live in Metter right below you.

| Thanks for such a lively welcome. I hadn't really thought much about having goats but that might be fun also. I grew up around my cousins little black goat named Inky. I remember how he would follow us to Bible school during the summer and just walk right down the center aisle to be with us. Anyway,I have alot to learn about being a "farmgirl" but I am enjoying all the reading I've been doing on the subject. We didn't have a farm but we did have a cow and some little guineas (mispelled probably), rabbits and my cousins goat. And my dad had a large garden. Where I live USED to be "in the country" but so much new developement has destroyed the peaceful sounds of my childhood. And Kristin, I've been through Metter on my way to Savannah many times. I always think of 'seeds from the sower' when I go through there. Been to chickamauga too as I enjoy history. What a fun place this site is. Love ya'll already. |

I would love to have a cow one day too! We are blessed by having opportunity to get raw milk, it is so good! I am so glad you joined us and look forward to getting to know you!

Linda, did you know that Micheal Guido died? He started the Seeds From The Sower years ago. Mom said he died a few months ago. He was very old. I think that is what Metter is famous for. And their motto: Everything's better in Metter!
We used to live in Savannah, too. I just love it there.
That's cute about the goat following ya'll to Bible school. We take walks out back and the goats come with us. They love it back there. And they pretty much stay with me. They are better than dogs. They don't wander off. They're too scared.

I hope you get your peaceful farm life soon. You do sound like a busy lady.
I want fresh milk too. I just haven't decided on which it will be, goats or a cow. Maybe both? Humm, have to think about that one.

| You girls are the sweetest. I am having such fun reading all the forums and ya'lls blogs. I plan to start ordering from the farm girls. So many wonderful things you make!!! I started making an apron for my sister yesterday. (Actually, my plan WAS to make aprons for ME but my sister is well...my SISTER, after all, so of course I wanted to make her happy.)Hopefully, I'll finish it tomorrow night or maybe tonight after I get home from class. THEN I'll make one for me. I want to learn to can this summer and have bought a canner and jars, now to just find time to get to the farmers market for those north ga pole beans. My sister loves to can so she'll get to wear her new apron while she's teaching me to can. YAYYYYYY And I want to make jelly. Oh shucks, I want to do EVERYTHING!! There's just too much I want to do to have to work outside my home. But my day will come. (sigh) |
