In the true Farmgirl spirit I set out to make some frugally priced stylish outfits for myself.
I'm a committed recycler of everything so it came natural to find ways to recycle clothing.
I gawk at MAGNOLIA PEARL but can't afford her beautiful clothes- so here's my version of Farmgirl-friendly clothes!

This pair of bloomers was sooo simple to make- I bought an ovesized pair or linen capri pants and went to work to gussy them up!

This pair is fashioned from a bedskirt- bought that at the thrift store too.
Neither pair cost more than $5 to make and required only minimal sewing.

Blessings,
Autumn

Awesome! I love the ones you made from the bedskirt..... I love Magnolia Pearl, too. But some of her stuff I don't think I could actually wear, it is so- I dunno, over-the-top "frilly" I guess. Just not me.... but I love the bloomers! There is a re-fashion blog somewhere; I think it is just called "re-fashion" and I think it is blogspot......I need to check. They give tutorials. Love it!

Those bloomers are too cute! I made the pair that was shown in the Lady Slipper Mary Jane Magazine, but after making them (I'm NOT a seamstress and I STRESSED over centering the hand tatted flowers) I tried them on... and lets just say that about 4 of us can fit into them....at the same time. I'm not giving up hope though! I want a pair of bloomers darnnit!

i have a bedskirt with pretty lace on it i just removed from a bed cause it didn't fit well enough to cover what was under the bed..(christmas decor)..it is muslin like fabric..what a great idea to sew clothes out of it..

i have collected several books on resewing clothing into new clothing..but hadn't thought of doing it with the bedskirt..thanks

I really really love the idea of fashioning clothes out of other materials. Just wanted to bump this thread up.

Thanks! I love finding a way to re-purpose! What a wasteland of unused fabric there is to choose from too!!!!
I have found some really high dollar things at the thrift store and made some fantastic outfits with them!
Last week at a flea market in Texas, someone actually asked me if I was "Magnolia Pearl" herself!!! WAAAAHAHAHAHA! How funny!!!

But it was a great compliment to me!!!

Well Autumn I just went to Magnolia Pearl's to have a look see and I have to say I like your things better. I seriously doubt there are many farm girls who could wear her clothing and get any work done...LOL. I'd be too afraid I'd tear some of that lace. Truthfully, while her stuff is feminine looking on models I doubt many grown women could wear it and look very attractive. We don't model for a living. Some of you younger gals could wear it and look beautiful though I'm sure. Does anyone remember back in the early to mid 70's when "Gunny Sax" dresses were all the rage? Very peasant looking and gauzy. Magnolia Pearl's clothes sort of remind me of those dresses. Back then I could wear them and did. Loved them. But time has a way of rounding out curves and oh my all my "stuff" is too well rounded.....LOL

I've never heard of Magnolia Pearl. Where can I find her on the web. Does she have stores or just a catalogue.

Here's her site-
http://www.magnoliapearl.com/

I think she may sell only in select boutiques- we have a place near here that sells her things.
I can barely afford to LOOK!!!!!!
Thus my resourcefulness in creating my own "look alike" from recycled clothes.
I have another great out fit I finished today!
Ill try to post a pic here soon.

I'm slow....but eventually I do get around to posting!!!!
Here's the next outfit out of my sewing room....
I started with a high quality linen top that was squared off but had nice lines- buttons half way down the back-a seam just below the waist and nice pockets.
I snipped and shaped and tacked and played and came up with a cute girly top that looks great with bloomers!
I had some vintage tatting that fit perfectly around the neckline and velvet ribbon topped with satin contrasing ribbon on the pockets and finally mis-matched vintage buttons.
I guess I could have hung it a bit straighter but I'm moving slow and didnt want to shoot it again!
What do you think???

Wonderful! Thanks for showing us! Now can you put it on your cute self and show us how it looks on ya? Are you going to wear the outfit around the house or to sleep in? I could see myself relaxing in that for sure.

Looked at the Magnolia Pearl clothing... really pretty. Pretty easy to make- but nothing I could carry off. Oh to be a size 2. =)

Well Im a size 12 and I'm wearing both outfits regularly.
I use thrift clothing so I dont feel bad about really wearing MY stuff!!!!

I'm using linen, which is really easy to wear and caring for it is pretty easy too.
I wash all of it in cold water-with my homemade detergent- and hang to dry!
So try to whip up a pair!!! Just make a few modifications like I did- because we aren't a size 2!!!!!!

Thanks for the photos of your bloomers! Very cute! You and Magnolia Pearl have inspired me to make some out of some old curtains! I've been wanting to do it for a while...hopefully I will actually start them! Very cute idea!

YOU go girl!!!!
I am in the country so I can pull it off pretty well- but I wear the outfits to town and the flea markets that I attend and get sooooo many compliments!!!!
But then I don't mind being a little out of the ordinary either! Not as out there (or cute) as Magnolia Pearl- but not the norm either!!!!!

I have Magnolia Pearl's book and got her autograph. I was at the Round Top gathering when she was out there. They wanted me to try things on but they were so DARN EXPENSIVE ..I didn't even want to TOUCH them! Agh! It is really cool you are doing this..maybe you should try and sell it! :D

Is she using taffeta for those knickers?

They're cute! There's no prices, so, usually, when something doesn't have a price, I KNOW it's too expensive for moi!

Starbucks and sushi to green fried tomatoes and corn pudding-I wouldn't change it for the world.
