Elizabeth, I may have missed something, but how is your bulldog that was hit by the car?

I can't believe that I came back to post some good news today and saw that this post was revisited by some of you!
Weezy had a rough summer. She was doing pretty well with the pin in her leg but the vet didn't like that she wasn't using her leg at all. After 6 (or was it 8?) weeks they took the pin out, but didn't like that it wasn't all healed up yet. They put a splint on her leg. After two weeks she chewed the splint off and was chewing her leg raw, so they took the splint off. That was about two and a half weeks ago.
She was still NOT using her back leg at all. I was resigned to the fact that her leg would proably never be used. I started doing a little "physical therapy" with her and massaging her leg. Guess what?! Today, for the VERY FIRST TIME in three months, she started to hobble a little on her leg! She is putting a bit of weight on it and I think with time it will strengthen and she will use it almost as good as before the accident! I was overjoyed when I saw her putting the foot flat on the ground (instead of knuckling it) and hobble around on it today!
She has also dealth with a lot of staff infections of the skin this summer and yeast infections in her ears. That's a bulldog for you...and right now we can't figure out if it is food related, something in the air that she is allergic to, or just herself. She's on antibiotics again (a 3 week course this time). Anyone have any advice for staph/yeast infections in dogs?
She turned a year old on August 16th and I am so happy that she seems to be on the mend completely. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers for her! -Elizabeth |

I'm glad to hear that Weezy is responding to your physical therapy. Animal massage therapy has saved more animals that a lot of "conventional" vets had given up on. As for staph infections, my friend's dogs were having that problem and she changed their diets to a dogfood with two whole meat sources as the first ingredients, and no wheat or corn gluten, no animal by-products, and generally none of the junk that often goes into dogfoods. Her dogs are doing fine now,and though she doesn't like paying more for their food, it's less than the vet bills she was paying. Bulldogs tend to have sensitive systems, so Weezy might benefit from a change in diet. You might try a diet that uses salmon as its primary meat source, since very few dogs are allergic to any type of fish. I was feeding my dog a salmon-based dogfood before I started making his food myself. Taste of the Wild makes some very good foods and they should be available at TSC. Weezy is lucky that you're so devoted to her care, but who can resist a bulldog? Cindy
