Hi Everyone,
I have a little problem over here.
I have one housecat that has terrible diarrhea. I've taken her to the vet twice now. They checked for parasites, worms, guardia and so on. She has had this for a month. The other cat in the house doesn't have any problems. We just moved here a month ago.
The Vet suggested it might be stress. He gave me Kopectate and some stuff to kill bacteria and any possible guardia they might have missed.
This kitty keeps dragging her rear across my carpeting. This is a rental house with carpeting in the hall and two bedrooms. Otherwise I would just take up all the rugs in the house.
This is also the reason I can't isolate her.
What do I do to keep the house sanitary until the medicine starts to help her diarrhea? Or what do I do to help her raw little rear end?

I would consider putting probiotics back in kitty's system by feeding her yogart. I know a change in water etc can knock the cat's system off and they need a dose of good bacteria to get the system going again..

I am so sorry your kitty is feeling bad. Have you tried corn starch for her rear? The Kao should help the diarhea. You might want to give her some yogurt too. I hope she gets better soon. I don't know what to do for the carpet. Can you keep the cat in a crate til she gets well?

Try givin her some green beans. That's the only thing I have found to stop the diarrhea. The condition causes their bottoms to be irritated and itchy. My mom had to put neosporin on one of her cats bottoms to stop them from doin that once. She just slipped on a glove, put a dab on her finger and applied it. It really helped.

Did they check for coccidia? Coccidia usually appears as soft diarrhea-like stool with a red or copper tint to it. Most of my cats all contracted it when we moved to where we are now, even the house cats. They usually treat it with Albon. If they checked for worms, they might have checked for this also. It sounds like it's something in her environment that is causing this. Could be stress, water. Try using distilled water or spring water from the store for a while. If the vet loaded her up on stuff to kill bacteria or worms, then she would need her gut repopulated with the good bacteria. I've used FortiFlora from the vet. See if you can get some food for upset tummies. Science Diet makes a canned (and I think dry too) food called I/D. Purina should have something similar. It's very mild and easily digestable. Make sure she is drinking plenty. See if the vet will give you a bag of fluids to have on hand in case you would need to give her sub Q fluids so she doesn't dehydrate. She's dragging her bottom because it's irritated. Be careful what you put on, as she'll probably try and lick it off and depending what it is, it might upset her stomach too. Maybe some A&D ointment or Desitin? Check with the vet to be sure. You may have to but an E-collar on to keep her from licking, but that won't make her happy, I'm sure. Keep spot cleaning the carpets until she's through dragging. Use Natures Miracle on the spots. Soak them well and let them air dry, then steam clean everything.

Yes, the water is different here. Dad doesn't like it. He says it tastes bad. Maybe she has a problem with that.
Humm. She doesn't care for yogurt. Wonder if there's any fish flavor I can find to mix in ;*}
Ok, I borrowed Dad's carpet cleaner. Sigh...
She thinks I'm a bit horrible now, having to wipe her sore rear [the Vet also expressed her anal glands] and shove bad tasting things in her mouth to make it worse.
