My mom has been on this site for a while now and I finally joined. I know how much she enjoys the fellowship here and I'm sure I'll do the same.

I grew up in Missouri, but got married last year and joined my hubby in Michigan. I truly love it here! We are living in town right now, but will take over the family farm in the near future. Boy oh boy, do I have been dreams for the 240 acre spread which was once a thriving apple farm. Many of the old trees still remain and need reviving and replacing. In the meantime, I've been enjoying exploring the farm and uncovering 200 years of buried history. I feel like a real life treasure hunter there.

In Missouri, my mom (keeper of the past)raises sheep, and I got the privilege of helping her on the family farm there. I just love the sheep! She has some sweeties! I'll definitely have a wool flock of my own. (I'm particularly intersted in the CVM/Romeldale breed.)

Anyway, I look forward to making many connections here in the sisterhood!

God Bless,
Angie

Welcome, Angie. Sounds like you will have your hands really full of fun things to do. Plus a little hard work thrown in there too. Your farm sounds beautiful.

Welcome, Ang. I know you will like this site and all the wonderful gals.

I am very excited for you. I know that you will really work hard on that old farm because you sure was great to help me while you lived here. I may even come and help you when the time comes....can I bring my sheep and dogs and the Sugar herd? I am especially anxious for you to get the Little Red Caboose converted to your studio.

Can't wait for you to get here...should we catch all the sheep and give them their shots, worm them, and trim hooves just like we have done in the past? Grin..Grin..chuckle!

Love
Mom

Angie, it sounds like a dream! Especially the part of uncovering 200 years of history! That would be so awesome! I just joined too, so hopefully we will come across each other from time to time. Congrats and have fun!

Thanks ladies! I'll be sure to check out the shopping thread right after I get done typing here.
I struggle with taking over the farm because it's a dream of mine, but we will take it over only after my sweet little mother-in-law could no longer care for herself. We really want her to remain independent as long as she can. She'll be 80 this year and suffers from the early stages of Alzheimer's so it's just a matter of time. So, even though a farm of my own to grow goods and raise all the critters I want on, it comes with a price. I truly love her and would keep her around forever if I could.

Mom, your help is absolutely welcome! Of course I'll help with the sheep when I visit. AND.... you can return the favor when I get my flock established! :) Oh, I'm excited to get the caboose converted too. I was having visions of gazing out the window of the caboose on a crisp fall day, watching the chipmunks scurry around while I try to capture the moments with my paint brush. I'll need you to come visit to give me ideas on how to set things up.

Thanks again ladies! And welcome aboard to you too applepiegal! This is going to be a blast!

Hi Angie - glad you decided to join the forum. How exciting to be getting your own farm even though it means your MIL has health issues. How neat to be able to explore 200 years of history. I have a small flock of Shetlands but nothing like the herd your Mom has. Just a small spinners flock for me. What type of painting do you do? I love to paint too as well as sewing and all the fiber arts.

Blessings, Sheri

Hi Angie! My, I'm finding quite a few neighbors on here these days! I'm just up the road from you in Battle Creek! And I just met another sweet gal from Kalamaoo last week. We were talking about starting an area farmgirl chapter for us SE MI girls. And Judy up there isn't far being in Jackson, either. Maybe you'd be interested in joining if we started on up?

Your farm sounds beautiful! I'm so jealous as I sit here on my two acre city plot :)

Thanks ladies,

There are certainly many kind and welcoming women and so many of them are close to me! Yeah!!! Any and all prayers for my MIL are deeply appreciated. She's a wonderful lady who keeps me in stitches.

Sheri-I feel as if I already know many of you through Mom. I didn't realize you paint though. That's great! I really enjoy painting portraits in a realism style. I'd really like to loosen up and paint a little more whimsical though. I'm afraid I've not been exercising my talents and am really hoping this fellowship with others will help fuel the creative bones in me. I actually think it's working already. I signed up for the Happy Halloween pincushion swap and the ideas just keep popping into my head. I'm so excited!

I've already got a spot picked out for a loom on the farm. I'm really blessed with a husband who thinks each and everything I do is cool, so he's all aboard! Yipppeeee!!!! After some fencing, the flock will follow then, look out world, here I come. I'll be a shuttle packing farmgirl!!!

Siobhan-I think it'd be great to start something up. I was actually surprised how many Michigan women are on here. Hey, a trip to the UP would be an excellent outting! Maybe I could talk my Missouri momma to come along! (I try to talk her into moving here almost everytime I talk to her, which is daily!) Oh, and 2 acres in the city is pretty darn impressive! My current yard is the size of a postage stamp. I'll be glad when I can spread my wings. I've been to The Local Yarn Shop in Battle Creek before. Do you go there often?

Later Ladies! Thanks for the friendly welcome!
Angie

During knitting season (when I'm not spending the summer gardening), I LOVE going to the Local Yarn Shop. It's such an amazing collection, isn't it?! I have to be careful going there though because I always spend way too much money AND time (I always end up talking way too long) LOL! The ladies who work there are very nice.

A trip to the UP would be so much fun. Closest I've been is Mackinac Island. I've always wanted to go further into the UP. Maybe we could plan a camping trip next summer.

Siobhan, now you're speaking my language! We're heading UP soon!!! Can't wait. Camping @ Tahquamenon Falls for a whole week! Plus, my hubby has family in Gladstone. Worked our vacation around their family reunion. Two birds, one stone.... So excited! Haven't been to the UP but one time. We visited Mackinaw City on a day trip & I was determined to cross the bridge. You can't get that close to the bridge and not cross it. We spent about 5 minutes in St. Ignace, just long enough to find a place to turn around & head back down again.

Mary Jo, where in MI are you? We're really not all that close. I'm almost 2 hours from Kzoo/Battle Creek. This is how I look at it, we Michigan farmgirls are scattered seeds, sure to grow, bloom and reseed even more Michigan farmgirls, populating the land, so we have farmgirl friends all over the MItten!

It's so nice to know there really are so many of us although we are scattered. Lyn, I like the scattered seeds analogy. How fitting.

Mary Jo, I'd like to know where you are too. I really don't mind driving if you ever need an outting. Do you like sheep? I'm thinking of traveling around to a few Michigan sheep farms just to check it out. I see so many farms on the internet, but I've noticed there aren't many near the main highways. I guess I'm going to have to get off the beaten path.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you. Thanks so much for the welcomes!

Welcome Angie... to one 'newbie' from another 'newbie' :) I just joined here in the past week and am having fun meeting the other ladies. You're farm sounds wonderful! You're mother-in-law is a very blessed lady to have you there looking after her :) She will probably have fun watching the little critters you'll be wanting to add to the farm which could be theraputic for her. Again... welcome! :D
